Sickening, what else can I do?

Over the weekend I became aware of a You Tube clip doing the rounds that for me is heartbreaking, frightening and has reinforced my determination to homeschool dd from y7.

Posted is a clip of three boys goading an ASD boy to meltdown, what makes it so horrifying to me is that it is taking place inside our catchment school (supposedly a very good school).

I have contacted the school and the governing body, had an acknowledgement telling me there is a meeting tomorrow and HT will contact me personally (led them to believe dd was a prospective statemented ASD pupil)

I've emailed the Inclusion Officer at the LEA and copied it up the chain of command.

I've flagged the clips on You Tube and left the school's contact details as a comment for others equally sickened to complain to the school (I've refrained from responding to the ignorant twats who think it's funny) It's had 35,000 hits Sad

Is there anything else I can do? I'd have liked to offer my support to the child's parents but don't know how to contact them.

Tbh, I'd be grabbing a tame kid from that school and getting names. If feeling brave enough, I would then knock on asd dc's parents' door.

Bet they dont know, and I'd guess school won't want to tell them. It's hate crime though, so worth a call to police racial/ domestic violence unit. Often more useful than 'normal' police or even child protection

inappropriatelyemployed · 17/10/2012 00:08

It's a safeguarding issue too so schools should be taking this seriously.

I can't believe it is still up there after you told the school.

Happy to help too, feel free to pm me.

Have reported the video to YouTube and emailed the school. Had a reply from the school within 5 minutes Shock

insanityscratching · 17/10/2012 10:51

I'm hoping they are getting the message that what has happened is seriously beyond the pale at least. HT and governors are meeting today so hopefully the strength of feeling will be noted.

I flagged it on youtube and have also had an answer from the school - but I then read YouTube's terms and conditions and they weren't very helpful about offensive material - it more or less said 'prepare to be offended'

please PM me ... I'm outraged and want to be of any support to have this addressed and taken down

KOKOagainandagain · 17/10/2012 15:36

Please PM me too - this is completely unacceptable - is this what 'inclusion' means?

insanityscratching · 17/10/2012 16:38

It's outrageous, I still haven't heard from the HT despite being assured that as a prospective parent he would contact me to reassure me that dd would be safe there.
I'll send off another email if I don't hear anything tomorrow morning and I'll probably write to our local paper then regarding my concerns.
Thank you all for doing this I want them to sit up and listen

I havent had a reply insanity, not that I was expecting one but just to let you know.

pannetone · 17/10/2012 16:53

Please PM me too. It sounds horrific and it's particularly relevant to me because I have to complete DS's secondary school application by the end of the month. He is almost certainly about to receive an ASD diagnosis and it is awful to think that this has happened and that it is all over the social media sites. I have just got a date for our tribunal case to hear our claims of disability discrimination against my ASD older DS's secondary school (DS3 is not going there!) The failure of schools to protect and provide for our ASD children is outrageous.

Jamie's parents must be so very proud of him....he stuck to his core values of right and wrong and never lost sight of his responsibility as a Prefect and his duties which a teacher had given him.

Tbh, I'm quite sure I would have lost my temper/resolve much quicker than Jamie did...and even then, he didn't swear, lash out and held himself admirably I think...he was seriously provoked and deliberately put in this awful position by these boys. I hope the School respond in the strongest possible terms but I also think they must review how the Prefects are supported in their roles and perhaps it was a bad judgement to have left Jamie with this responsibility alone when the School are aware of how vulnerable this situation would put any pupil in tbh...perhaps they should have been working in pairs or something?...or Jamie would have been better suited to performing his duties in an area that has more adults around...dining hall, etc maybe?
I think there have been several mistakes here that this was even possible to have happened..

I was thinking about Jamie, after his day in School and wondering, if like my DS, he even said much to his parents about this incident he suffered that day?
My DS often isn't able to explain/express/sequence the events, etc and often isn't able to tell me about things he's suffered...I would get bits and pieces and sometimes nothing, sometimes another child telling me what had happened, etc. It wouldn't surprise me if his parents hadn't realised the magnitude of this incident until now...
Awful, my heart goes out to Jamie and his family....stay strong xx

insanityscratching · 17/10/2012 18:39

If you listen carefully you will hear a girl, she is a prefect, she would have been working with J instead she was egging the boys on. She has escaped exclusion.
Through the double doors on the top floor (you can see them behind J) are the offices it's inconceivable that there wouldn't have been staff in there.
When J rushed downstairs he stops at the prep room it is the busiest room for staff in the whole department and nobody intervened. I find that almost more horrifying than the incident andthe recording and broadcasting tbh

Anyone got an email contact for a red top newspaper? It's time the school was named & shamed in the regular media.

Disgusting behaviour! The school rant doing enough that's for sure and you tube should Be ashamed of them selfs.
It needs to hit the headlines of the news and newspapers.
It's the only way people listen these days, name and shame

I have an 11 yr old with ads and OCD.

Earlier this year, I posted on here when an incident occurred whilst ds practicing walking to school, 5 mins away, with me tailing him, at 30 paces behind. A group of teenage buys passed him, on their way to the local senior school. They made comments and mimicked him. I saw it all as I was behind him.

I reported it to the school. Ds had NO IDEA, thankfully. The HT and I had a correspondence going where he told me they'd addressed the incident in a whole school assembly and how the pupils were shocked and disgusted with "the boys who'd do such a thing". The buys weren't "outed" but, they knew who they were.

I'd go along with all the suggestions on here. "Out" this obscenity in as many ways as you can. Local TV? radio? Social Services/Police, Childline, NSPCC. And YouTube. Surely, they have some control on what's posted? It's a disgrace that they should show this kind of thing.
