Badvoc · 21/09/2012 20:05

Hello everyone!
Thought I should start a new thread as we were nearing 1000 posts! :)
Indigo is no longer posting as you all know, but I think it would be such a shame for the support thread to go too.
I know I find reading about all the ups and downs we all experience very helpful and it's so great to hear all the progress :)
So.
We go back to TH next month and can't wait. So interested to see of the tracking programme has worked. I think ds1s reading speed has improved and he is now reading proper chapter books!
He continues to show less anxiety, OCD behaviour and stress.
He is eating better and is generally a much happier chap.
Looking forward to hearing from you all over the next few weeks/months...X

Daft- Fingers crossed you get an offer for the school you want. Your DS sounds amazing!

Shopping- Pleased to hear about the cottage pie. It sounds like one of those pivotal moments Smile

Badvoc- Lovely to hear about Tom and thank you for your encouragement and kindness.Flowers

2013 so far has been brilliant for us. Saw Robin on 9th January and both my children aced his Vision test and have both stopped VT. This has made a huge difference to our lives as the exercises both children have now they like and it seems like nothing at all. DS is happy to go to school and comes out smiling every day. He is totally back to his old self ( before his dyslexia and dyspraxia upset him) I really am not worried about him. Of course I would like him to read and write better but that is all. In every other respect he seems NT.

DD too is doing well. Went horse riding today for the first time and seemed to be able to concentrate ( relatively) normally. Definately think her attention is improving.

We are 6 months into the TH programme and I can honesly say that I have gone from total despair about my DS to feeling totally relaxed and chilled out about him. Robin has and continues to change out lives and I will be eternally grateful to him and this thread. xx

Ruggles · 04/02/2013 06:44

What a lovely and uplifting start to the week! I love hearing all of this good news, I find it incredibly inspiring and motivating, thank you!

Badvoc - Tom sounds amazing, he seems to be storming ahead at school and sounds delightful.
Daft - I have my fingers and toes crossed for you too. One offer is brilliant and takes the pressure off. Do you know when you will hear?

Shopping Bags Such good news about the Cottage Pie and everything that it symbolises
Beautiful Possum I don't know anything about VT, apart from that there are mumbles about it, so I am glad that you've finished it. Good to read that DS is happier and that DD's concentration is improving - riding takes quite a lot of concentration and co-ordination!

Smile Smile Smile

I am so glad that Jan is over - only Feb to go and we're into spring. 2013 is better for us too. Nursery are still moaning lots about DS spatial awareness (he sits on everyone and bashes into them), some hitting, lack of concentration, falling behind the others in his letters and numbers, high energy levels and then crashing tiredness... But I know that we are making big improvements and progress - I'm not reacting to nursery so much now. After a wobbly time in the NY, he is doing incredibly well at home and I think (hope) the other things will follow. We have just started body brushing as well which he loves - in fact its amazing, he's like a cat and almost goes into a relax trance Grin.

I met up with IB a couple of weeks ago. We hadn't met before and it was lovely to have a good natter. She is doing well and continues to be as inspiring as ever. Grin

Badvoc · 04/02/2013 07:52

BP...sounds great :)
Ruggles....I find January incredibly hard tbh..always have! Easter is early this year so in a. Few weeks summer will be on the way! :)
Wrt nursery...I can see why you aren't reacting. Nursery is for playing not formal education! By the time your ds starts reception he will have completed TH and be doing well, I am sure.
I hope you got some help sorted out?

:)
Last week here before half term...our LA is a bit odd and seems to have different hols to everyone else! But boys are ready tbh. Both tired.
Mum still not good...had to call the paramedics out on Friday :( just wish she would get her op date :(
Added to that we are having to have our conservatory roof replaced this week due to leaking wish me luck!

Ruggles we did body brushing with ds 3 years ago. Made a massive difference to his touch sensitivity in a relatively short period. We stopped after 6 months or so and I've not had to cut labels out of clothes since and he doesn't get freaked out by dirty/slimy stuff or windy days anymore. Certain all those were cured by body brushing. Ds loved it too and still asks me to do it with dd's tangle teaser brush!

Badvoc · 04/02/2013 11:31

This new healthy eating plan is all very well but Tom is growing too fast...
Just had to order 2 new pairs if school trousers!! He only had new ones in sept!
:)
Wish I had done body brushing with Tom, and cranial osteopathy, but didn't hear about them til he didn't need it anymore :(
It's NC assessment week 1st week in march and parents evenings after they go back after half term...eek.

OP posts:
Ruggles · 04/02/2013 14:13

We're on half term next week too (can't wait) and then have a week away at the beginning of March and then Easter will be around the corner. Totally agree about the playing thing at nursery and they know the probs DS is having with concentration, so think its all a bit silly!

Badvoc, sorry about your Mum. Keep calling and nagging for a date - I've found that a rubber neck can help. When my Dad was first ill I did a lot of 'calling / writing to his GP to keep him updated' as things got worse and a few calls to the hospital too

Shoppingbags - interesting about the brushing. Not sure that Robin would approve of two things at once, but once I'd read about it I couldn't resist...

Getting there on the help front - duffed up husband Grin who is going to do more structured stuff at the weekend (won't hold my breath) and more importantly got him to agree to a trampoline! Am sacking the cleaner tonight and have found a lovely lady to take the ironing away... We'll see how that goes and if I'm still popping I will try and find a student to come and help out late afternoon a couple of times a week.

Badvoc · 04/02/2013 14:24

Oooohhhh someone to take your ironing away! You lucky thing :)
It's so important to work as a team when you have kids, even more so when they have sen/sn/additional needs. It can be very isolating.
It's only recently that dh has stepped up tbh but it's made a huge difference to me and he feels more involved.
I am in a quandary ATM wrt my voluntary work...I am the church council dogsbody secretary and also on the b of gov at my sons school.
Have been let down over church related things lately...was left in charge of a big project at Xmas that the vicar asked me to do which I completed but which was totally unsupported by the rest of the congregation/PCC. No pastoral care. Noone has even asked me how my mum is and they know she is ill.
Am very fed up.
I am thinking about not standing for re election to the church council. I don't like letting people down, but feel let down myself.
The vicar seems to have favourites but is very scathing about they people that actually do all the work!!
Wwyd?

Ha! I am in a similar situation. I do our village hall bookings which takes up quite a lot of time and involves organising things which don't happen, lots of chasing people and of course local politics... Can't decide whether to ditch it or not. Like you, don't want to let people down and think its good to do something which is not selfish - not sure why Confused

You are doing two things and from the sounds of things, have your plate full with DCs, conservatory and your Mum. I would be tempted to cut down to one and the school is a possibly a good one to keep - partly for you and partly for what you can offer the school. My sis is chair of the govenors at school and finds it one of the most rewarding things ever. You wouldn't be letting people down if you don't stand for re-election - just saying that you've done your stint and time for someone else.

DH is so supportive chat-wise about DCs but totally useless when it comes to stuff he doesn't enjoy.... I think part of it is him getting used to the fact that our DC are different. I overhead him chatting to my Dad at the weekend and felt proud as he was trying to explain it to my Dad (who thinks nothing is wrong... ) Families - more ha!

Badvoc · 04/02/2013 16:02

Yes, Ruggles i think you are right. I will step down I think.
It's an important time to be a school gov ATM as we are converting to an academy and all that that involves.
I know what you mean wrt dh excepting that things aren't "perfect" ...took,dh and his family a loooong time to come to terms with toms issues.
Speaking of whom....
He has just home with yet anther certificate :) this time for his times tables challenge...60 sums in 3 mins.
Well, I have to be frank and tell you I couldn't do that! :o
He also got 100% on his reading quiz which means he can go up another level :)
Sigh.
I am delighted, of course. Utterly.
But.
There is a tiny part of me that wants to find that year 3 teacher who told me "the lowest sets are perhaps where Tom belongs" and ram his certificates up her nose!!
That would be a bad thing, wouldn't it?
:)

....oh bugger it's project time again!!
So after a Greek trireme and model of Apollo 11, Tom now wants to make a model rainforest.
I mean...really...isn't my life complicated enough!?
:o
Any tips for how to make a decent looking waterfall gratefully received! :)

OP posts:
Badvoc · 04/02/2013 20:55

Oh God...
Dh is talking about melting bic pens (?) to make the waterfall...??
I think I may have to leave home til this project is handed in!...

OP posts:
DaftMaul · 04/02/2013 22:27

Lol. Could he use cellophane (or something else shiney) scrunched up to look like water?

Ds has to do a poster on a WW2 airplane. He has had two weeks so far and done sod all. Methinks there will be a panic at the end of the week when it is due in!

Badvoc · 05/02/2013 08:20

You do if for me daft. Go on. You know you want to really :)
I thought of white feathers for the foam/spray at the bottom? Is that rubbish?
Tom has discovered minecraft (sp) thanks to his friend...sigh.
Ds2 is really into dragons ATM.
It's all very testosterone ish here at the moment!
:)

OP posts:
DaftMaul · 05/02/2013 09:05

Nooooo! Even stick men challenge me. Your ds would be terribly disappointed in my efforts Grin

How about this for a waterfall? www.stormthecastle.com/diorama/make-a-diorama-waterfall.htm

My ds dips in and out of minecraft. I have heard of friends who have their own group (server?) where they have fallen out when the kids destroy each others' buildings! Oops!

We had our visit to Robin and, as expected, ds hasn't really made much progress with tracking. We are to continue this for next couple of months. It's a shame to be two months behind but there has been rather a lot happening so c'est la vie.

It sounds as thou everyone is going great guns. What a good start to 2013 for you all. X

Badvoc · 05/02/2013 10:20

Thanks daft!
Wrt being "behind" - he isn't really behind. He just needs longer to complete this part of the programme.
Am sure Tom will need to keep on hemi opk. I dont consider that he will be behind per se, just that he really needs this part of the programme to fix his brain :)
I know you have had a lot on, so don't be hard in yourself. There is no time limit for this programme...unjust keep doing it til their brains work better :)
No doubt I shall be back again soon asking for help with the bloody rainforest :)
Am hoping to give up MN for lent which starts in a couple of weeks....so if I disappear for a while dont worry i have not left! and any of you can always have my e mail address if you want it x

OP posts:
Badvoc · 05/02/2013 20:30

...realised my last post re: me being AWOL for lent made me sound like I had delusions if grandeur! Blush
I didn't mean to imply that you needed me, or at the thread would implode without me - just that if anyone wants to chat I am happy to be e mailed during lent.
X

Eeeeks - we have all this ahead of us. You two are very funny. I'm not sure why I am laughing as I have a habit of being over ambitious when it comes to craft projects (we're currently on half finished paper mache pigs) and have never finished one of my own craft projects, not one! I have a cupboard full of cotton squares for a quilt, wool for knitting and painting kit.... Hmm

Badvoc - please don't give us up for lent! You have inspired me and I've just resigned the Village Hall bookings after a hissy fit from the Postmistress about how I hadn't told her about a man who turned up to view the hall for a funeral which I didn't know about - yes really!

Badvoc · 05/02/2013 20:43

Ruggles...well done on giving up the hall duties!
You will regret your laughter when you too are in ks2 project hell! :)
I am not leaving you. Honestly! But I need to give up something I really like and enjoy (all to do with denial i guess which i am rubbish at) so MN it is.
I am always contactable by e mail if you pm me will give you my details...it's only 6 weeks.
I think we should arrange a TH support thread meet up somewhere in the summer! Some lovely NT properties we could meet at? I know some of you have met with IB already but it would be lovely to put faces to names. We could even bring the kids if we feel brave :)

Me too - count me in!

Off to see DS1 new school on Friday for a chat with the head. First time we are going to mention that he is different etc. I am dreading it. I know we need to be honest and proud of our amazing boy, but find it quite difficult and seem to well up a bit when I think about it (not good, I know...) They know DC2 has a speech delay. DCs aren't coming with us. Any advice on how to handle it all?? Not sure what to say about DS and Robin. DH has made me promise not to mention the brushing Grin Grin We may move DS next term if they are very welcoming - as current school aren't. Sad

Ruggles · 05/02/2013 21:07

PS - DS doesn't have a diagnosis, just our own experiences, nursery's moans and Robin's assessment.
