Tinsley House Support Thread

IndigoBell · 16/02/2012 01:55

An awful lot of us are now doing Tinsley House, either by going there, or by following the recommendations in The Brain Food Plan

So this is just a general support (and hopefully good news) thread.

Stage 1 of the TH therapy consists of:

  1. Multivitamins
  1. Healthy eating diet
  • High protein, low sugar, no artificial sweeteners, additives etc.
  1. Specific exercises done 3 times a day

daft ah, sorry! I know there are one or 2 posters whose dc are much younger than ds1 and I thought your ds was one of them...d'oh!

I know ds1's VT went from 4 exercises totalling 23 mins to 1 exercise of 7 mins. It does get easier, honestly.

Ds1 still moans a bit but - after years of practice - I pretty much tune it out Grin

Robin told us that ds1 is quarter of the way through the programme so we have a long way to go but if he keeps improving like he has done since Dec...well, lets just say I am very excited! Smile

DaftMaul · 01/05/2012 18:10

Don't worry Becarooo, I can't remember everyone on here at all and often have to scroll back down to remind myself!

I told ds about your challenge. He says he has 8 stars so far after 8 sessions but who knows if the progress will continue at the same pace.

Becaroooo · 02/05/2012 07:20

oooohh sounds good!

Will be a close one!

Badvoc · 02/05/2012 19:31

Like my new MN NN???

Its me, becaroooo!

DaftMaul · 03/05/2012 10:17

Hey Badvoc, looking good Grin

Badvoc · 03/05/2012 17:47

Smile Glad you like it. Its very...me Grin

Ds1 was reading his school reading book last night and read the word "ventriloquist"

This time last year he was struggling with cvc/cvvc words!!!!

He is at a friends house tonight for tea (again)

Its so great Smile

DaftMaul · 04/05/2012 21:43

Yay, vt became shorter tonight. Ds thrilled.

He has most of next week off from it as he is away with school from Tuesday.

IndigoBell · 05/05/2012 06:32

Well done little Daft.

Pop - how are you going with the vision therapy? Are the choc buttons working?

OP posts:
coff33pot · 07/05/2012 00:29

Mind if I pop in and ask you guys a question? :)

Went to boots this morning hunting down zinc & magnesium for a child to take. Couldnt see any. Spoke to pharmacist explained ds dx and I am giving him Eye Q omega but want zinc & magnesium suppliments. He says there arent any and its not advisable to use adult ones (that much was obvious!) Is there anywhere that sells childrens doseage?

Thanks and glad to see its all going well with everyones DC! x

IndigoBell · 07/05/2012 06:57

Coffee - osteocare is available everywhere. It's marketed as a calcium supplement, but it contains really good levels of zinc & magnesium. And it's fine for kids.

Otherwise you need the floradix saludynam - but I think you need to buy it online. I've never seen it in a shop.

OP posts:
mrsbaffled · 07/05/2012 10:06

I get saludynam from Amazon, but it's the sort of thing you might be able to get from a good independent health food shop.

coff33pot · 07/05/2012 19:57

Thanks for the info! will pop down and seek out the osteocare tomorrow x

If not will look for the other one. Has to be tablet form as DS takes them fine but wont take syrup of any kind.

IndigoBell · 07/05/2012 20:08

Osteocare comes in a mint / orange flavoured chewy tablet.

Or a ginormous tablet to swallow.

Or in a syrup.......

I give my kids 1 of the chewy tablets. Which contains approx the right amount of magnesium & zinc.

OP posts:
DaftMaul · 07/05/2012 20:15

My ds has the enormous (horse!) Osteocare tablets and often we break it in half for him. he swallows this without any problem.

PaperView · 08/05/2012 20:01

Just marking my place. Daftmaul saw a post i made on fb asking for help with my dyspraxic hyper DS2. His behaviour is horrible at the moment.

Anyway - i'll have a read thru.

DaftMaul · 08/05/2012 20:14

Hey you Smile

PaperView · 08/05/2012 20:51

:)

I'm wading thru. NOt in the best frame of mind today tho.

coff33pot · 08/05/2012 23:00

No osteocare down in our store (joys of being in the sticks lol) But I did manage to get one called Vitabiotics WellKid Smart Chewable. Comprehesive mix of multi-vits, iron, minerals (zinc, magnesium, copper, maganese etc)plus vegetarian source omega 3. Its also gluten free, no salt, yeast or lactose, no artificial flavour or colour. ( I think thats about all ont he box!):)

Already has EyeQ which he swallows 4 at a time Shock

Will look up the floradix thanks

IndigoBell · 08/05/2012 23:06

Just looked it up ( here )

It's not bad. I really like it has Iron as well as Mag & Zinc ( I couldn't find one like that when I was looking Blush )

It's also got B6 and B12, which are very important.

It has a good amount of zinc, but not quite enough Magnesium.

You could use Epsom Bath Salts or Magnesium Spray to get more Magnesium....

OP posts:
coff33pot · 08/05/2012 23:57

Yes I been using epsom bath salts for a while now.

Its 3 for 2 on that site too! and much better price. It was in a 3 for 2 offer but was £8.95. Still I was quite pleased with what it contains as the other multi vit he had was nowhere near the mark to this one.

DS liked them they are a bit like eating a fruit flavoured round rennie.

Badvoc · 10/05/2012 10:26

mrsbaffled · 10/05/2012 10:36

Good news!
Took ages for our report to come back from the specialist teachers too :( SENCO was tearing her hair out as she couldn't do anything til they got back to her!

Badvoc · 10/05/2012 10:46

actually reading comp is above average!!!

Thanks mrsb

DaftMaul · 10/05/2012 12:52

Brilliant BV! At leat the STS report can be used to illustrate his progress, if nothing else!

Peaceful Quiet week in the Daft household. Ds has been away on a residential trip and I suspect neither of us has missed doing the vt and other exercises. In fact, I doubt he has even attempted I clean his teeth at all, let alone standing on one leg Grin

Paperview, did you think you found anything you could try? What fish oils did you try with your ds before?

Badvoc · 10/05/2012 14:17

daft Grin Hope he enjoyed it (and you)

The Y5 at ds1's school went on their pgl trip on tuesdsay til tomorrow. Ds1 has been very worried about this prospect since someone first mentioned it to him in Y3.

He amazed me this morning by telling me that he is looking forward to going next year!!!!
