Star if you're anything like me you'll be going in the middle of the night. I did both times. (2 dcs)

moosemama · 10/02/2012 18:10

Thanks folks. He's had a pj day today and spent much of it watching endless Clone Wars DVDs. It think it probably just what he needed.

Dd had just climbed on my knee and informed me its time to buy her some new wellies and they have to be purple - apparently! Grin Would have been cuter if she wasn't accompanied by enormous snot trails. Hmm

StarlightDicKenzie · 10/02/2012 18:10

I have given up with 'support' too.

WTF is 'support'?

Support with what? With coming to terms with having low expectations because of low budgets and low training levels of the people paid to help?

hmmm.

have a consultant appt next week - am going ot go for pushing the 'medically necessary' angle to my CS (midwife didn't hesitate when I mentione dhistory before saying 'oh yes, a CS then') and then health insurance can pay, and I might get to choose a decent hospital Grin

moosemama · 10/02/2012 18:12

Was wondering if it was some strange code I didn't know yet Blush

moosemama · 10/02/2012 18:14

Grin Problem is she's got a taste for it now, so its like wrestling an octopus trying to get to the keyboard. Hmm

creatovator · 10/02/2012 18:17

I've had some great, "support", but agree that it's usually from folk who get how great our dcs are.

I've also had some shall I say, not so great support!

StarlightDicKenzie · 10/02/2012 18:22

I'm beginning to think the key aspect of support is being on people's caseloads. A peripheral and less important aspect is having them look at you sympathetically if you share any of your high expectations for your child.

And it kind of ends there.

I've never really bothered with support for myself, apart from family members, as I find that I'm ok if someone is supporting my DS. Though in saying that I was signed off with stress in Sept/Oct and told to give myself until after Christmas. Lack of funding in this area and not really knowing the best type of support for me stopped me trying to get any Confused.

Best unofficial support I had was from folk and lecturers/tutors on my course.

creatovator · 10/02/2012 18:30

I give them Mozart and Einstein examples if they don't think our dcs can achieve much!! Like you I have very high expectations for my ds.

TheNinjaGooseIsOnAMission · 10/02/2012 18:35

star, can't you just set your tent up outside so as to avoid the m25 Grin

we've had some pretty good support over the years, really very much appreciated when a few professionals had words with the lea when they originally said no to dd3's ss application. I loved the portage group we used, was meant to be for the kids, great activities but talking to the other parents was invaluable.

blueShark · 10/02/2012 19:33

Even if the m25 is clear, k is a pain to get in and our from, I miss living there but don't miss the traffic ESP on weekends.

Silver frog - didn't know you were expecting too, congrats!

StarlightDicKenzie · 10/02/2012 20:22

Oh well. Never been there! Confused

Not had a bad week this week - my worries have been eased away by a very caring friend who gave me some great advice.

Although, the charity shop I was volunteering in closed forever today, and I wasn't able to go in because it's soooo icy round my way :(

Still, will get to see all my friends elsewhere, and obviously my lovely boyfriend. Was walking around town with a daft grin on Wednesday as I went and bought his Valentine's present and card (first time I've been able to celebrate it). Will post a link to piccies next week (he knows my Flickr name so can't post them yet). I got him a mug, personalized, with a cartoon to go along with this quote:

"If I could hold a star for every time you've made me smile, I'd soon have the night sky in my hand."

Uni news, my film has been given the go ahead, yay! Now, how to do my health and safety thing where I tell people, "Don't let me wander into a spinning propeller, because I'm blind as a bat and easily distracted."

wigglybeezer · 10/02/2012 20:50

The best 'support' I had recently was when I was chatting to my brother (who is a kind uncle) about whether he would like kids, he mentioned the risks associated with older parents, I said there was a risk he would have a 'quirky' child like DS2 and he immediatley said " oh I wouldn't mind THAT".

That was last week, this week DH's Granny and my washing machine died! So I have had to tidy myself up for a funeral and clean the kitchen for the engineer, could have kissed the man, only phoned this morning and he assesed it, got the parts and fixed it in under 7 hours!

If only all services were as efficient.
