I will duplicate this thread in chat as well, JIC.

Some of you will have happened to pop by just now; welcome, and be aware things will calm down soon.

others will have come from the publicity- hello. If it is advice you need shout, message, if we cannot help we absolutely will know someone whose job it is to do so; if you want to help- thank you ; if you just want to be part of a supportive board, well come on in.

A few of you may be journalists: understandable, you have to pay the bills like the rest of us.
Please, I ask you to respect the dificulties that carers and aprents of disabled children on here face. Some will only have just learned their child has SN, or be facing real fears. Others have additional hardship s to deal with also. I hope you are motivated by a want to help people with challnges and that's great, but please be aware we are not hare to inform but to get advice or give it.

Thank you

Hiya newbies!
I've been here a while now (under various names) and it's a fantastic place to get support and advice. I would not have got my ds a statement without the help of all my 'chums' Wink. Welcome to one of the friendliest MN boards!

ouryve · 21/01/2011 16:30

Hi to all the newbies and thanks to Peachy for extending this welcome.

I have 2 boys with ASD. One also has ADHD and the other has hypermobility and hypotonia and is non verbal. I'll second dameedna's assertion that this is a great place for support and information.

bigcar · 21/01/2011 16:33

have I missed the chocolate again? When's the wine getting open, I can't miss that?

It'll be lovely to have some newcomers with older dcs Smile

auntevil · 21/01/2011 17:28

How do you all have such chocolate stashes still left around? I must admit, i was wondering about Carrot's EU sized Bailey's mountain too

Jannathi · 21/01/2011 17:34

Hello and thank you for the welcome, I have son with severe disabilties. Finally i have found somewhere where I can share my experiences with people who actually understand what I am going through.

intothewest · 21/01/2011 17:53

Peple just gave us LOADS at Christmas-and selection boxes came from school after christmas...ds is allowed a little bit of choc sometimes, but really only if he asks-I don't offer it to him (teeth brushing etc)The rest of us eat it sometimes-the tin of roses is almost gone Smile

Thecarrotcake · 21/01/2011 18:15

I'm only popping on to answer the EU surplus mountain of baileys I was bought 4 bottles... Large bottles! Litre bottles from various peeps at Xmas... I had already bought a bottle myself.. Christmas day was quite funny.

See that would be okay apart from DH then opened a bottle ... When one was already open.. So to answer your questions... Lots... I have lots :o

That's why I like it here :) I can hide lol

missworld2010 · 21/01/2011 18:33

hmmm. have never done the friday night chat before and am feeling a little unsure as to whether to admit my wine is already open? And half drunk?! Blush

Second half going down much quicker now DH has texted to say he will be late AGAIN. He's in the pub now after skiing all last weekend so I'm not bitter at all ha ha. At least he warns me I guess.

Ineedalife · 21/01/2011 18:41

No wine here thanx but the chocolate will be flowing nicely later.Smile

Welcome to any new people or lurkers wondering what we all get up to on a friday night!!

We have had an interesting week, great success with Dd3's visual morning timetable. It has gone smoothly and more importantly she has enjoyed using it.

rettmum · 21/01/2011 18:46

Hi,i came for a look at the site yesterday probably out of curiosity but i am amazed at what i have found.Wish i found this site years ago.Ihave dd with Retts so is profoundly mentally and physically disabled.Like everyone i find its one big battle.

NowtWorthOwt · 21/01/2011 18:50

lisad123isasnuttyasaboxoffrogs · 21/01/2011 18:52

Drives over to missworlds house yo share wine or atleast hopes she has some more fir next week!

Ladies normal Friday night thread is open as people who are just signing in didn't know aboutvthis one xx

Tricia7212 · 21/01/2011 18:55

You know what I agree rettmum. I did know about mumsnet a few years back when looking for a job to do from home and saw or read somewhere to look here because they had jobs listed where you wouldn't get ripped off. I didn't bother really looking at the site. I wish I had. Although I have friends, a few have backed off when they see what family life is like...or when I say sorry can't go out.

But the few that have stayed try and help, and of course I have online friends who I speak to everyday and they listen and are a shoulder for me to cry on and vent at. But unless you have been there you don't really know. Now I know there is a place I can come and vent, or try and offer help to those who are in a worse situation than mine.

SparkleRainbow · 21/01/2011 18:58

Sorry I was out for a bit to fight meet with LA. Seems LA are trying to be quite helpful at moment, in case I shout discrimination against disabled children at them again.......would why, any ideas anyone?

Chocolate and wine please, may be some baileys....happy to run with both threads tonight. Welcome all newbies. Smile

asdx2 · 21/01/2011 18:58

Hello and welcome to all the newcomers. Had an awful week here so have succumbed to a custard doughnut.Ds is brighter because he hasn't been to school, dd is in a foul mood so will be in bed as soon as it hits half seven even if it is the weekend.

rettmum · 21/01/2011 19:01

Yeh tis a bit strange how friends and sometimes family seem to run in the opposite direction the moment you mention disability. But its now good to know that there is somewhere to go for advice or as you say a nice rant.

5inthebed · 21/01/2011 19:07

Welcome to the SN board, we are all lovely on here and you'll get loads of good advice.

bigcar · 21/01/2011 19:10

carrot, the numbers in my family that are still with us and not on update at christmas only status is, umm, oh, that'll be just me then, so I'll borrow a few if you like Grin

rettmum and tricia, that'll be the mysterious case of the vanishing friends Grin the ones that are left are usually worth their weight, don't you think?
