@DeterminedCaz This is one of our favourites, it's actually a WW recipe...

Think this was the first time I used orzo!

Also re soup in soupmaker, I've dug out my SW Souper Heroes recipe book and nearly all the recipes have instructions for soup makers - where to begin!

@ListenLinda what sort of puppy? We need a photo!

My gran has gifted me her soup maker as she prefers to use a hand blender. Can't wait to use it.

How is everyone getting on? I noticed my syns had creeped back up last week so I've tried to get some more speed in. I know that the soup will help with this.

Awe what kind of puppy do you have @ListenLinda?

I have another group/holiday question. If I was to book a holiday and then still go to group that week will I lose it or will it just be cancelled?

LeftyLou · 20/01/2025 19:52

Don't ask me how that gif got on there. Of course when I try and delete it I can't. Funny thing is I didn't even try and add a gif. Thanks Mumsnet! 😁

tealightning · 21/01/2025 08:48

I lost 1.5lbs this week, which I'm pleased with after having a few days where my syn count was high. Hope you're all getting on ok.

Going to try some of the soup recipes this week!

Wilma55 · 21/01/2025 12:21

WI this morning, I've put on 5lb since my last WI on 3 December. That time includes a 2 week cruise and eating all the Christmas leftovers.

Got parsnip soup in the soup maker, will let you know how it is - I've no saute function and have not pre fried the onion and garlic.

Wilma55 · 21/01/2025 14:25

Honey roasted parsnip soup with halloumi is on the SW app. I left out the fromage fraise and halloumi. Did it in the soup maker following instructions, no pre frying, added the honey. It was very nice and only need to count 1tsp of honey.

That sounds lush Wilma! And well done on only 5lb

sorry been MIA, insane week, but I lost 2lb this week so am now 1.5stone lighter and a club10 member 🥳

TheGirlWhoLived · 23/01/2025 16:00

I’ve started going to a group (started Tuesday!) really enjoying reading this thread for inspiration. Although a scary 16st 7 at first weigh in - who weighs in with their shoes on!!

Take them off next week and you will have a good loss.😄My friend used to strip off all her jewellery, even her stud earrings.

LeftyLou · 23/01/2025 22:17

@ChocolateTea that's great well done 😊

@TheGirlWhoLived I always take my shoes off as well as any heavy item of clothing.

It was a 4 lbs loss for me this week. Which has got me my 1.5 stone award and also Club10 too which I am so pleased with.

My weight is now 13 stone 6.5 so still got a good 2 Stone to go before I reach overweight just got to keep pushing 💪

ChocolateTea · 24/01/2025 07:30

@LeftyLou we are at the same place minus 2lb difference! Well done on a great loss this week 😀

ChocolateTea · 24/01/2025 07:32

@TheGirlWhoLived tbh I think all groups weigh you the first time in your shoes, so you get a loss first week on plan regardless!

I take shoes and jumper off, I weigh just in leggings, vest top, and socks now. But I keep my glasses and watch on!

TheGirlWhoLived · 24/01/2025 14:21

Yeah I’m going to plan a ‘weigh in’ outfit the same each week. How many syns are people using? I’ve been 10-15 so far but wondering if I should cut down. I don’t NEED to use them, but enjoy having vanilla Skyr and honey instead of plain etc

radiantorange · 24/01/2025 16:38

Hello.
I am new here in this thread. i joined SW end of November and I am 15.5 lbs down. I only lost 1 last week after being on plan for 6 days straight but I had started my period the day before weigh in…

Does being in your period with bloating and cramps affect the weigh ins?

I have 26.5lbs still to lose 💪

ChocolateTea · 24/01/2025 20:46

@TheGirlWhoLived i only use about 3-8 during the week, simply as I take my lunch and breakfast with me to work so it’s all free , so it depends on my dinner. Today I’ve had 1/2 a syn in a muller light and 1.5 in a nonsecco and I’m done. Weekends I tend to use a few more though - we are out for an Indian meal tomorrow, so I’ve planned it all to be in my 15 syns

@radiantorange well done and welcome! I have a similarish amount to lose, and did 21lb in 13 weeks so far, but it’s slow going for sure!

TheGirlWhoLived · 24/01/2025 21:06

Sounds sensible… I’m wondering if keeping to a max of 10 in the week and 15 at weekends could work for me

PieonaBarm · 25/01/2025 09:34

I find if I try to go syn free or as low as possible I don't get the losses. A good rule of thumb for me is between 5-10 syns a day, and the occasional day where I have a f-it moment and just eat share bags of crisps and mini eggs (I'm sure I'm not the only one) and I tend to loose steadily.

I try to have my syns with my meals, for example I'll have puff pastry with chicken pie this week but I'll syn what I do have. I try to have a hifi bar for my HEB in the week after tea as it kind of works for the chocolate hit I want at that point.

I also find my period affects my losses, I either gain or plateau no matter how much I've stuck to it.

I've lost 2.5 this morning, 6.5 in 3 weeks, so I'll take that as a win for now!

Wilma55 · 25/01/2025 10:03

Someone at group who had a good loss this week, said that instead of snacking in the evening she saves a bit of her evening meal in a ramekin and then has that later. Not sure that would work for me but in theory you wouldn't be having anything extra.

My usual weigh in place was cancelled because of structural damage in the storm so I went to another place at 9.30am and have to say my morale is quite low.

I’ve stayed the same after being on plan for 7 days… the only slip was yesterday when we made homemade pizza for lunch and I didn’t realise how many syns were in strong white flour… so yesterday I was 18 syns total.

Every other day I have been under syns, more active, no crisps or fatty snacks, no oil or butter, still sugar free since last April …

I didn’t stay for group chat as it’s not my usual club.

Feel like I need some help. I’ll do a written food diary this week and speak to my group leader next Saturday.

i’m thinking all sorts:
is it perimenopause?
is it because my period started Fri 17 for 5 days?
is it because it was different scales?
is it the 100g fage 5% I have - is it a mistake that it’s showing as low syn?
am I not eating enough speed free food?
is it because I was more active and my body is storing fat?

I could cry.

FishPie2 · 25/01/2025 11:18

Wait until next and don't get despondent. I lost quite alot of weight a few years ago and some times I would go 2 or 3 weeks without a loss and not overeating then the next week would be a good loss.

Wilma55 · 25/01/2025 11:36

@Radiantorange I think weight loss is ofter unpredictable and sometimes doesn't make sense. Good idea to keep a record and have a chat to consultant next week.

Hope the storm didn't cause you any damage personally.

OP posts:
PieonaBarm · 25/01/2025 12:12

@radiantorange it's horrible when that happens, but it does happen, and I've noticed it since I've got over 45 it happens to me sometimes, so I think that hormones can play a part in influencing weight loss. But occasionally we just can't explain why things happen in our bodies, they are complicated bits of machinery.

Try not to be too disheartened and writing down your food is a good plan to keep in control and help your consultant see where you're at. Good luck this week x

radiantorange · 25/01/2025 14:54

Thanks all. I had a wee cry about it earlier but I’m determined to stick to it. I looked back at my meals and I had some low-syn on the go meals and decent dinners but I didn’t eat a lot of speed free foods with my dinners. So I’ve looked at my plan for the eeek ahead and made adjustments so I can have more speed free.

ListenLinda · 25/01/2025 19:46

He’s a 10 month old Beagle, my soul dog. Photo below 😊

another 3.5lbs off this week, feeling good, makes 11lb total so very pleased with that 😊

ChocolateTea · 26/01/2025 10:34

@radiantorange the week I stayed the same I was simply eating more than I should have, with less speed. I know we don’t need to calorie count but food is still calories so if we eat too much of certain things then it will be slower losses ime. However it can be disheartening, especially when some at group are losing 4-6lb regularly. Keep going - the week after my sts I got a 2lb loss

@ListenLinda what a gorgeous pooch! 😍 well done on the loss!

im not expecting a loss this week now - had an awful pain flare up so have had to take 60mg cocodamol which affects my stomach and water retention badly. It’s not the end of the world though and I’ll keep plodding through and will still weigh in Tuesday. Just know I won’t 💩 for a few days after codeine!

we went out for curry last night. We walked there and back (about 8000 steps as about 1.5/2 miles each way) and I had sparkling water, plain rice, and a lamb rogan Josh as the planner said it was the lowest syns at 10. Had one poppadum and some of the sauces (3 syns plus probably another 3?) Really enjoyed our meal out though so I’m happy with my choices
