Weigh in today and 2lb off. I feel quite good about that, despite the 6lb gain at Christmas. I had a big loss just before the festive break so I’m actually just back to what I was mid December and I was happy with that rate of loss. Going for 3lb loss this week to get me back to my stone and a half loss!

Making the katsu curry that was recommended on this thread this evening. And maybe a soup - if I don’t batch cook I struggle in the week with work/kids etc. Hope everyone is good!

Wilma55 · 11/01/2025 13:15

I agree with @suki1964 though I only ever did online with WW during covid and we had zoom meetings. I've got to target so many times and stopped going to group, the weight just returns. Tbh I don't know how good SW online is personally.

Re snacks @midnightbloom I find having easy things best
Ready cooked chicken/ham
Babybell or cheese triangles
Ryvita
Cucumber/Carrot batons (I buy them ready done)
Hummus
Grapes
Hard boiled eggs

If I'm really hungry I might have a mugshot!

Thanks @ChocolateTea never thought of having scrambled eggs in the cold nights. Was thinking about making crustless quiche with my hea and having slices of that for warm snack at night. We were at -10 last night 🥶

MidnightBloom · 11/01/2025 13:25

I am a snacker so these grab snacks sound good @Wilma55 is the ham just normal packets of ham?

Sorting out my shopping list this weekend and going to do my meal planning. Will post my meals here when I've sorted it out.

Well done ! 2lb is great :-)

Weigh in for me this morning at group. 4lb down.

SW 14st 2.5lb
GW 11st 2.5 - 11st 8 (somewhere in there I think)
CW 13st 12.5lb

Wrote everything on a food diary. So will do that again this week, along with using Syns in my meals and my HEB as hifi bars after tea as a treat.

Going for a few drinks and a curry with friends later, but I'll just get back on it tomorrow.

Well done! You’re similarish to me. My sw was 14:11 and current is 13:6.5. My interim goal is 11:11 but I might go for another half stone on that.

suki1964 · 11/01/2025 13:31

My good work paid off - 1.5lb off, which for me is a huge loss - I am a real slow loser - so Im feeling pretty good. Back to top of target, Christmas gain gone, so feeling really confident for this week

Was up at 4am and have just sat down for brunch - bowl of hm curried parsnip soup and two open sandwiches ( nimble, beetroot, cucumber, lettuce, a sprinkle of kewpie dressing and topped with smoked turkey slices. Pretty yummy and should keep me going till supper/tea/dinner tonight which is pasta with salmon and spinach in a creamy chilli sauce

ChocolateTea · 11/01/2025 13:34

@Zazu44 im similar to @suki1964 and group is my preference. I like instant online support like here, but I need the full accountability of group. And mine is friendly too.

ChocolateTea · 11/01/2025 13:35

Well done @suki1964 !

suki1964 · 11/01/2025 14:05

@MidnightBloom , I have been working different shifts since I started with SW so I have always struggled with getting balanced meals in me so I do have to find very filling snacks because I might be skipping two meals

Now Im a 6:30 am start,( up at 5am ) I cant face food that time of day, no time to eat whilst working, so when I get home at 10 :30, I need to be able to reach for food - fast

My go to food in the winter is a Dahl - I make it at the weekend, leave it in the fridge, heat it up - even eat it cold - as and when, I add spinach to the base Dahl of lentil and sweet potato ( or cauliflower or butternut squash ) when Im reheating

I also love my oats/yoghurt/mixed berries - I can eat that morning noon and night and its often my late night munchie treat or just to satisfy the sweet craving that hits me now and then

Baby bels - life savers in the car. Especially when I was on 12 - 4 shifts - a couple of those in the car for the drive home

Eggs - scrambled , omelettes , muffins ( breakfast muffins ) made into wraps which are basically plain egg pancakes then used as wrap

Lentils - I love lentils and I quite often buy the pouches of flavoured lentils - again, hot or cold - sprinkled with some feta - lovely

In the fridge theres always cooked meats, cheese and HM soups

Theres always fruit on the sideboard ( which I usually ignore if Im honest )

Basically try and get the idea that snacks are sweet foods, out of a packet , out of your head and snack on food.

I got fat because I snacked on bread, biscuits, and crisps, so much so I didnt have room for "proper food" . Now I rarely take sweet food, I go for the protein

MidnightBloom · 11/01/2025 15:16

Lots of great tips much appreciated @suki1964 it's crisps and wine that were my downfall and eating anything and everything during covid times made me pile on the weight. Doing dry January so hoping that makes a difference.

It's encouraging to read people's weigh in updates well done to you all.

CrowsInMyGarden · 12/01/2025 08:02

Hi everyone. Can I join please? I have been a member of SW for a number of years and followed the plan on and off but have stayed exactly the same weight. Not been committed at all, just wasted a lot of money. Had a scan on my gallbladder due to a niggling pain in 2022 and GB ok but they found I had a fatty liver. Was advised to lose weight and cut down on alcohol. Tried now and then but have not taken it seriously, so, so stupid. Had a blood test mid December and cholesterol and Triglycerides high. I feel like I have had an epiphany and really WANT to lose weight for my health. Had last drink and Indian meal out NYE. Went back to group on 7 Jan. Weighed 12.6. Been on plan since. Had a sneaky naked weigh on home scales this morning and was 12.1 so not sure if that is good or not? I wore jeans, jumper and shoes at weigh in so they're probably 5lbs! I am determined though so am going to continue on plan and wear the same clothes at weigh in as last time and see what happens. It has to work if I follow the plan right? I lose weight very slowly, I think maybe because I am only 5ft 1 - would your height (or lack of it) make you lose weight slower? Also post menopausal so that probably doesn't help either. I am vegan and usually eat a lot of fake meat but am going to be eating more lentils, chickpeas and veg, definitely no booze and will be exercising more. I am due to have another liver scan at end of March so would LOVE this to be clear and bloods to be normal but I think I have left it a bit late however am determined to try my best. I am feeling very disappointed with myself. Think this thread will be a big help to me.

suki1964 · 12/01/2025 08:30

Welcome aboard @CrowsInMyGarden

First of all dont be so hard on yourself, we all have made bad choices in our pasts, we are human :)

But well done that you have finally plucked up the courage and determination to make the changes you need to get back on track

Im 5ft 1 and a wee bit and joined SW at 11.7stone.

Im an active alcoholic

Yes you can lose weight if you follow the plan

Yes because of age and size it will be slow

And yes you will see a big improvement on your tests results - if you can knock the drink on the head, or at least keep within government guidelines , which have dropped again recently I think ? Used to be 14 units, Im sure its been dropped , and what alcohol you do drink is spread over 2 or 3 nights, giving yourself alcohol free days

My tips as a target member? Wear the same clothes every week. Dont weigh at home, just the one weigh in at the same time of day. ( I went first ever weigh in in vest and 3/4 leggings and flip flops - its been hell during the winters lol )

Try to make your food more whole food then processed . Im not vegan nor vegetarian but I prefer to choose beans and lentils for filling meals. Eat your fill of speed fruit and veg and up your water intake - you can use sugar free cordials to flavour

Stay for the group sessions. totally invaluable in getting support and mixing with people who have the same goals. I find the support a real boost, when Im having a bad week, when Im drinking the head of myself and finding life tough, the group is there for me, as I am for them, celebrating their successes and supporting them through their dark times as well

Exercise is great for your health. I go walking. I walk for miles every day ( not this past week because the ice is so bad, not even the dog can stay upright ) but Im usually out there clocking up five miles a day every day - rain, sleet , snow - out I go. But any form of exercise will boost your mood and when you are feeling better in yourself, you want that to carry on so you become more motivated

Dont say sod it and jack it all in if you have a gain. Weight loss isnt linear, it goes up and down. Dont panic if you have a bad day and stuff yourself silly, just start again with the next meal

So use the group and use here. We are a friendly bunch , stick around :)

Hippywannabe · 12/01/2025 09:36

Weigh in for me tomorrow- I bought a 12 week countdown at the beginning of November, didn't go at all in December, went to weigh in last week and had maintained which I was pleased with. Have had a good week so far.
I just don't enjoy the group that I go to and am thinking of just weighing at home. I first went to Slimming World 30 years ago in the old Red and Green days so I know that the plans work.
I am in a low spend/no spend kick too so resent paying for something I don't enjoy.

CrowsInMyGarden · 12/01/2025 09:49

@suki1964 Hi, It's nice to hear from someone the same height as me! You must have been freezing in the winter weighing in wearing your summer gear! I'm going to keep wearing jeans and jumper then when it gets to summer and I go in a dress I'll be guaranteed a weight loss!

PieonaBarm · 12/01/2025 10:09

I always wear my gym leggings and a t shirt. Isn't it weird we all wear the same clothes every week. There's a lady at my group whose a nurse and if it's her day off she changes into her scrubs and comes to group to weigh 😂

LikeThatNotThat · 12/01/2025 10:15

@suki1964 which packets of lentils do you buy? Are they syn free?
I really like the microwave rice packets - expensive way of buying rice but so quick and easy 👍

Went off plan yesterday so am extra determined to get back on track today! And not my usual "diet starts Monday" crap 😂

suki1964 · 12/01/2025 11:40

@LikeThatNotThat , I lift the lidl ones cos I shop there the most, 3.5 syns a pouch and that does me two lunches or grab and goes. The Merchant gourmet ones are 2 syns. Another quick grab are the pouches of Dahl, 2 syns, handy for those times when Ive nothing prepared and I want something then and there

For me Ive had to give up bread ( show me a while loaf and I will show you an empty wrapper ) - I only have the very odd slice of wholemeal now, or a wholemeal pitta and I prefer to use my HEB as oats so for me it was finding something that really satisfied me and could be grabbed quickly.Pasta Im keeping to sensible amounts - once a week now really - and I totally sickened myself with couscous and quinoa so beans are my new hero food. From bean salad - I jazz up an oil free dressing with lots of garlic, chilli, lemon etc and let marinade with diced peppers, onions, sweetcorn, to a bean chilli

Another thing I love is roasted veg in the summer - courgettes, aubergines, red onions, garlic, tomatoes.and chillies I will roast of a tray and keep that in the fridge - will last 4/5 days no bother , and thats a gorgeous salad addition - even makes couscous palatable :)

@CrowsInMyGarden - bloody baltic at times, The hall we are in is always cold cos its an early start. I stick a pair of jeans on now over my leggings and whip them off before I weigh

@PieonaBarm , We have had ladies dissapear into the loos and come out wearing shorts and vests after walking in looking like the Michelin man they have so many layers on :) . I remember one time I went in seriously just leggings and a vest, took off all jewellery and watch and glasses cos I wanted a 2lb loss to gain my first stone lol. Madness really Im a bit more laid back now , but weighing in in leggings for me is a must. Same as I have to sit on the same chair - little rituals

@Hippywannabe , if you dont enjoy going then you are right to not waste your money. I wish I could go it alone but when I tried, half a stone straight back on - cos Id gain a pound, think oh Ill shift that next week, and not bother me arse and so the following week Im chasing 3 pound - and so it went. But thats me, we are all different, and everyone needs to do whats best for them

ChocolateTea · 12/01/2025 11:46

i got in the habit of wearing the same dress to work on weigh in days, but over Christmas I didn’t want to have to put it on, so I weighed (!) leggings and a vest top and socks and realised it was nearly the same. Now I wear that, with layers I take off to weigh. I rush home from work and change then duck back out but my group is so close I can do that!

shockjockingtruth · 12/01/2025 12:17

Are hienz bean syn free? I am struggling to get an answer on this

The plain ones, yes, but some of the flavoured ones carry a syn value

Wilma55 · 12/01/2025 13:59

@Hippywannabe are there any other groups you could try. I changed because my Saturday one kept getting new consultants. I really like my new one - still haven't been for ages though!

I lost 1.5lbs this week which started me off in the right direction! I feel quite motivated to get going this year!

Current weight is 10.1 1/5 and gol weight is 9st5.

I would love to be there for March. I am working away for part of this week so my aim is to take food with me to cover my meals.

LikeThatNotThat · 12/01/2025 21:56

Thank you @suki1964 that's very helpful!

Hope everyone's had a good day. I made a delicious pasta for lunch - I fried tofu, peppers and onions and added a pot of JD Seasonings Cajun Spice, then added cooked pasta and fat free cottage cheese 😋 served with salad. It was soooo good. And I have leftovers to take to work tomorrow woohoo!

Dinner was a Quorn fillet thingy in pitta with cheese and tomato, with SW chips and cucumber, pepper, carrot and lettuce in the side. And a Fanta zero 😀

I used to really enjoy going to group. I'm going it alone at the moment (not even signed up online) cos - honestly? I've been doing it so long I feel like I know the plan well, and money is super tight right now so I can't really afford to be a member. The group was invaluable when I first joined though!!

I haven't weighed in since before Christmas. I have a difficult relationship with my scales and the numbers can really affect me. I want to get a few "good" weeks under my belt before I face the music of my cheese (and the rest!) filled Xmas... 😳 I know it's likely a significant gain and that makes me feel quite low. Once I'm a few weeks in I'll be properly back in the zone and will feel better knowing I'm handling it!!
