This is the one I use all the time. I make it syn free - softening the onions in water in the microwave before frying them off with just a spray of oil and omitting the cream and not so much sugar - to taste

I also just do the chicken in the air fryer , I dont bother with skewers . The whole family loves it and it really is as good as a take away

Chicken tikka masala - Recipes - Hairy Bikers

Chicken tikka masala, one of the classic dishes from the Harry Bikers - 'Best of...' cookery book.

That curry sounds lovely. I’m going to try that this week.

well done @IlovetoKnitandRead in taking back control, we all know the big weight gain happens when you don’t. That 3lb could be gone in the next week or two, but if you didn’t put a stop to it, it will just keep creeping up.

I also had a game last week, so hoping to see the scales going down that way in tonight. I’ve had a good week with just one Saturday night so will be disappointed if I haven’t lost the 2 lbs I gained last week

Does anybody have a good curry recipe or a decent curry paste recommendation that’s worth the syns. I’m all for using my syns on meals instead of snacks. Tried several SW curries now and all very bland, they seem to absorb the flavour so it’s just meh.

How has everyone coped with half term and family staying??

Weighed in on Wednesday and lost 4lbs, pretty sure the 3lb gain the week before was all the bread weight from the night before so actually only a pound loss. Scales on a Wednesday seem to favour me, it’s the same consultant and set of scales just a slightly different time and location.

Look at slimming eats web site. She used to do all SW syn value until they stopped her but still does the same food recipes and they are good.

suki1964 · 04/11/2025 21:11

Lucky for me, half term doesn't play a bearing, other then work being boring which had me picking

Luckily Ive a dodgy tum - antibiotics are running through me , so what I do pick at isnt making a scale difference, but being pastry and bread, omg I feel so bloated and the jeans are getting tight

Just had a beautiful dinner of HM Lasagne. I threw in a good handful of dried red lentils , a lot of chopped mushrooms along with the usual onion and garlic, then I stirred in a couple of blocks of frozen spinach. Served with a pretty colourful side salad - was beaut. Only syns were the tablespoon of flour and butter used to make the béchamel and it was 6 portions so not too bad

@IlovetoKnitandRead What is it you are binging on? I find that I can not think of SW as a diet, but accept - this is it - this is how I need to eat forever to keep the weight off. I know if I go five days off plan - weight is creeping on. So Im target, I dont need to loose more, but I still need to keep on plan 5 days at least. I have one binge day a week where its carb central , then I might have a meal out where I dont care, but other then that I keep as on plan as I can

@lechatnoir , one night is not going to make a huge difference ( as long as its not the night before weigh in where you will be holding fluids ) Dont forget its over 3000 extra calories to gain a true pound of weight. So dont beat yourself up

radiantorange · 06/11/2025 19:42

Hello! I’ve not posted in months and months… I’m still doing SW and a week on Saturday will be 1 year. I’m 2.5 stone down and I have half a stone to go to my goal of 3 stone. It’s slowed right down and I’ve proven I can maintain, haha. But it’s the last push now to get this half stone off before Christmas 🤶

lechatnoir · 06/11/2025 21:52

2lbs off for me which takes me back to 8.5lbs off in the first 6 weeks. Not exactly racing along but heading the the right direction. I’ve got a tricky weekend ahead - drinks with girlfriends’ Friday, at my sister’s for dinner Saturday then Sunday lunch with in laws 😫. I’m sticking to plan and trying to avoid using too many sins as I know I’m going to need them over the weekend.

really well done on your loss @radiantorangethat’s amazing and great to know you can maintain.

How’s everyone else doing? 7 weeks to Christmas so a stone off is very doable (she says!)

Hippywannabe · 07/11/2025 21:41

Rejoined on Wednesday. Was here at the beginning of the year. Got back from an all inclusive on Monday morning so joined straightaway. Honestly thought he had the joke scales out when I weighed. Never been so heavy in my life, In fact, am 4 stones heavier than the day I gave birth to my last child.
Hoping that this really is the last rejoin.

suki1964 · 09/11/2025 12:30

Gained this week, been on the bread and butter so at least I know where it's come from. I KNOW I cant eat it, I KNOW I'm going to go overboard with it when I start, but every now and then I try to tell myself Ive kicked it into touch and all will be well - and its not

One of these days Ill learn :)

Hippywannabe · 12/11/2025 21:15

7 1/2 lbs off this week-1st week

lechatnoir · 13/11/2025 14:40

Bloody hell @Hippywannabe that's amazing well done and keep it up😵

Another 2lbs off for me this week which is great but still only puts me back where I was 3 weeks ago 😬. That said, my interim target was 11 stone by Christmas and if I can keep dropping 1.5-2lbs a week I will actually get there AND managed to squeeze into an old pair of jeans (sausage legs but still, got them up at least 😆).

@suki1964 STEP AWAY FROM THE BREAD. I;m exactly the same it's like I have iron-clad will power but even a sniff of toast& I fall off the wagon in a spectacular fashion.

Had a couple of really nice dinner's this week - a smoked fish, lemon & spinach linguine just a few Syns for cream cheese plus te lovely chicken curry recipe posted on here recently. I've got a tricky weekend ahead so trying to be really good until I leave tomorrow evening then I won't be counting but try not to go mad for the 2 days away then straight back on it Monday.

suki1964 · 13/11/2025 15:09

@Hippywannabe - WOW - that's an amazing start - you go girl xxxxx Bet that's the spur needed. I just dont ever stop going, and Im maintaining. Third Christmas this year and whilst I may gain a couple of pound - it goes again. Going keeps me focussed on the end goal - never to have to diet again

@lechatnoir , I dont usually buy bread as I cant resist. But truth is Ive been living on my nerves these past two weeks - and Ive not been eating -so reaching for bread. But the worry is past me now and Im back to my usually happy self so will get back to proper food

Glad you liked the curry recipe

Hippywannabe · 13/11/2025 22:39

Thanks. I do usually lose big the 1st week!
Telling myself every day that this is the last rejoining and that one bad meal does not make a bad week.
The consultant at the new group is fab- he and I used to do the money together at the group many years ago and then he stepped up to be the consultant.
He had us all laughing this week and there is a lovely atmosphere in group.

Mash88 · 15/11/2025 09:00

Well done @Hippywannabe thats a fantastic loss.

Also well done @lechatnoir.

Faced the weigh in today after being ill and eating comfort food (not slimming world but not terrible), missing last weeks weigh in, no exercising and several treats. Gained 1.5 pounds with which I’m happy about, I’m taking it and running to the supermarket with my meal plan for the week.

Hippywannabe · 24/11/2025 07:19

Coming back on to say 2nd weigh in was 4 1/2 off so 12 lbs in 2 weeks. Hoping for 2lbs this week to get the stone award.

lechatnoir · 24/11/2025 10:56

That’s brilliant @Hippywannabewell
done and keep this up and you’ll make it no problem.

i had a weekend away last week - hideous 4lb gain but have been 100% on plan since and doing SP everyday (actually doing a full on detox plan which is basically SP with healthy extras or syns 😬). It’s been pretty tough but hoping I can get the 4lb gain off this week plus maybe even a bit extra.

Anotherdayattheforum · 26/11/2025 08:57

Help and encouragement needed please 🫩. I am 2lb away from target and this would JUST get me inside a BMI of healthy weight 24.8. I am 63. I just cannot shift this last 2lb. I am really conscious of the principles of SW and apply, and the unconscious ways of miscalculating intake, ie, the syns. I am again going to keep a true food and activity

I am interested in the personal tweaks people have made in order to reach and maintain a healthy BMI and target post-menopause. Thanks in advance.

lechatnoir · 26/11/2025 10:44

Hey @Anotherdayattheforum having been in your position before I would strongly advise you drop your target and give yourself a couple of really strong weeks up to Christmas and be comfortably below ahead of a potentially tricky time. I know that might be depressing as you are so near, but, 24.9 is really on the cusp and as someone who clearly has struggled with weight (as we all have on here!) I think you need a lot more breathing space as you can put on a pound overnight! Aim for another half a stone or so and then find your way with maintenance. Give a couple of SP days a go they are my go-to if I need a boost or have some days off plan happy to share meal ideas. You’ve got this Star

lechatnoir · 26/11/2025 10:48

Sorry I should have clarified on the SP days - when I hit target last time and kept the weight off for many years, I would always trade a meal out/off plan with an SP day. So if I knew I was going out drinking & eating on Saturday night, Friday and Saturday morning/day would be SP meals to balance out the potential gain.

Thanks @lechatnoir

SP = speed and protein day?

No carbs? Carbs = rice, potatoes, pasta, banana, kiwi fruit?

Still have healthy extra A & B?

I want to check that I do understand the principles clearly and applying them accurately. It’s a self check that I’m not being caught out with unwitting cheats.

Speed days for at least 3 days a week

I wanted to go 6lb lower then my target weight as it is - I couldn't get there, but BMI was within range so I called it . And looking at my books, Ive lost the grand total of 4lb since I called - in a year

Aged 61, my body shape has naturally changed, my metabolism certainly has , I really knowing myself can not cut the calories any further so I suck up the 6lb and enjoy the 3lb leeway

Im slowly upping my exercise, I need to get a few more intense sessions - but Im a busy woman , Im a tired woman, so I do what I can

Dont batter yourself thinking you have to be a certain weight/BMI , if you are comfortable and can maintain where you are , then call it - and become a free member and take advantage of having the support to keep you on track free of charge

Im a target member now for coming two years and the weight does creep on so very easy. So I do a couple of speed days a week, and coming up to Christmas Im ramping them up as Im not going to be " on a diet" over Christmas. The spuds are going into goose fat, there's going to be at least 2 stuffings and pigs in blankets and proper gravy and cauliflower cheese, and I dont want to be starting the new year batting a gain so I plan ahead

Aye - speed and Protein with your healthy extras and up to 5 syns. Not so difficult - unless you rely on carbs for filling up . However time I got to this stage, my need for carbs had naturally fallen so I find if I plan a meal, Im easily filled

On speed days I would use my HEB as a warbutons thin - Lunchtime. Id make myself a huge big open sandwich - piles of speed and topped with FF Cottage cheese and a tin of mackerel. Not to everyones taste but it ticks my boxes - Im stuffed and then not so hungry for main meal so can be happy with just meat and veg

Hippywannabe · 26/11/2025 21:24

Weighed in for a 2 1/2 lb loss making 14 1/2 lbs off in 3 weigh ins. Got Slimmer of the month too!
