I've weighed tonight and negated my Christmas week loss with a 2lb gain. But that's fine, I was surprised to loose the week before and have eaten pretty much what I wanted including samosas and pakora from the Sweet Centre near work at the weekend. They were worth it!

Got the free book tonight with the countdown I bought last week so will have a look at it later.

pharmacoco · 04/01/2023 21:01

Hi!
Anyone else getting headaches in the early days ?!
Also, I've got the SW app, but my minds blank - is it only fat free Greek style natural yoghurt that's 'free' or are there other yoghurts please ?

LeftyLou · 04/01/2023 21:37

Welcome all newbies 😃

That is fantastic @Thegirlwithnousername you must be extremely proud of that!

@Dahliasrule I am not sure, but I think they should have asked you if you wanted to step on again. Although I think you should take the half and run.

@pharmacoco yes it's just natural fat free and flavoured are all synned.

Well it was another gain of 2.5 lbs this week. First day back at work today so I am feeling 100% motivated. I've made a meal plan and got a food list ready for the shops. Was supposed to go the other day but cos I'm too lazy didn't. So now got to go in the middle of work so more fool me.

Hope everyone has a good week!

AdditionalCharacter · 04/01/2023 21:47

First day has been fine, thanks for asking @LightandAiry. Made a crustless quiche for the next two days at work. Doing a proper shop on Friday, so using any scabby veg I could find.

Dahliasrule · 04/01/2023 22:25

@LeftyLou and @AdditionalCharacter , you both seem to have the right frame of mind and seem to be getting organised. I wish I could meal plan but my mind goes blank. Compounded by the fact there are five of us and for various reasons have very few meals that we all like, and all can all eat!

Dahliasrule · 04/01/2023 22:26

@Thegirlwithnousername , that is an amazing achievement. I do hope you reach the same stone mark tomorrow.

Dahliasrule · 04/01/2023 22:27

Seven, of course!. Should proofread before posting not after!

ThatDreamSheep · 04/01/2023 22:31

Hi can I join? Had my first group this morning!

LeftyLou · 04/01/2023 23:37

See it is only me and my partner @Dahliasrule so I can only assume that makes it a teeny bit easier 😄

I do find organising myself quite difficult but if I'm in the right mind set and excited about finding new recipes etc I can find it fun.

Welcome @ThatDreamSheep 🙂 how did you find it?

picklemewalnuts · 05/01/2023 06:59

Dahlia, have you tried planning for you, and tweaking it for everyone else? I am doing a really light soup one night this week, but will serve cheesey garlic bread with it for everyone else.

ThatDreamSheep · 05/01/2023 08:31

@leftylou I found it slightly overwhelming with all the information being thrown at us but really positive now! Had a good day yesterday with it and motivated got my food shop today. Does anyone have a Air Fryer and think it's worth it?

picklemewalnuts · 05/01/2023 08:35

I have an air fryer and love it!

It's best for foods we don't eat anymore, though!

That said, halloumi, cheese on toast (mine's the flat kind of air fryer), chicken wrapped in lean bacon are all good.
Chips aren't bad, in a non chip kind of way.
Chargrilled veg are great- courgette, aubergine etc.
Sweet potato fries!

Trying to think what else I do in mine. It's basically a mini oven.

Carpediem15 · 05/01/2023 10:25

If I don't use the stove top I use my airfryer. Tandoori chicken is a favourite but I finish off things like cottage pie, pasta dishes and fish pie in A Fryer. Crustless quiche and baked oats go in the airfryer. Jacket potatoes are great in there.
One thing I would say is that if there were more than the 2 of us I would not use it as much as I do as it would not be big enough. When my son comes over he uses it for himself for amazing double cheese sandwiches. 😂

Thegirlwithnousername · 05/01/2023 15:58

Thank you for the kind welcome.

I lost 1lb bit gutted as I had been really good but do feel very bloated so hopefully a good loss next week!

We use the air fryer for most food.
DH made the Chicken Tikka Curry from the free packs and made the chicken in that and it was delicious.

We use it more than the actual oven now!

I am thinking of going to SW group tomorrow.

Anyone tried Weight watchers, how does SW compare? To be honest the local SW group time fits in better for me than the WW time so is a no brainer really but nonetheless interested to hear any experience of WW compared with SW

What makes SW work for you?

picklemewalnuts · 06/01/2023 07:31

We've had ww people come to SW and be shocked at how simple it is. You don't count much at SW- 15 syns worth of high fat/sugar foods. A measure of calcium (milk/cheese) and a measure of fibre (cereal/bread/nuts).

My mum did well on WW, and then did equally well when she swapped to SW as it was more convenient.

picklemewalnuts · 06/01/2023 07:33

@Thegirlwithnousername I had constipation when I started SW. I had to get used to actively seeking out remedies. It probably coincided with HRT, and menopause, so not just SW to blame!

Eating kiwi with the skin still on (usually with yogurt) is supposed to be helpful!

I've done both over the years, and did WW last year and found they'd over complicated it for me. If I ate veg they gave me points back which I could then spend on a toffee crisp. Not sure how that worked 😂. I much preferred the old simple points from years ago.

SW is much simpler to understand, and I was starving on WW, some hunger is good but not to be permanently starving which even with earned points spent sensibly I was still hungry.

I still can't believe how easy it is either! I discovered my diet was really good,I haven't had to change any family meals I already made ,just less olive oil and less bread. So that bit's easy then you have your syns to use as well.

picklemewalnuts · 06/01/2023 08:25

I thought I knew it all, nutritionally, and wouldn't lose weight as I never had before. I only went to be allowed on the GO's gastric band track.

I was wrong!

Noshowlomo · 06/01/2023 08:44

Well bit the bullet and went back last night. Eeeek. Small goals but do want a big loss this week at least.

@pharmacoco I have terrible headaches when I first start, it’s because I suddenly stop eating loads of sugar

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 06/01/2023 09:42

First weigh in today since 16th Dec. 1/2 stone on, which is a grand total of exactly two stone on this year. I literally have a wardrobe full of clothes that I cannot wear as they are too small and point blank refuse to replace. And we still have a mountain of sweets that we received as Christmas gifts, and some left over xmas food (cheese and long life bits).....BUT....I need to get on with it and stop with the excuses.

I have given myself a target of half a stone off in 4 weeks, which should be doable for me, as I am re-starting some exercise groups as well.

So if it is ok with you all, I will use this thread to make myself accountable and kick myself up the arse!

Good luck everyone.

CountryCatLady · 06/01/2023 10:05

Hi! Can I join?

I have played about with SW for years now, with varying success. Never made it to a group though. Mum goes so just use her resources.

In past 3 years I have put on about 1.5st pushing me to overweight. Goal is to lose at least that, maybe another 7lb on top if I can, to bring me back to a comfortable weight. Only thing I will miss is my boobs lol

Starting on plan today. Normally when I start, I get very food obsessed. Anyone else find this?

Mumtothreeandadog · 06/01/2023 11:27

Thanks everyone ☺️DH is food shopping while I'm at SW, what are staples to add to the list?

I am bit worried about lack of cereal as a massive bowl of bran flakes keeps me regular 😂

picklemewalnuts · 06/01/2023 11:36

Staples
Fat free yogurt, muller lights maybe, ryvita, baked beans. Fish/crab sticks, thin sliced ham (protein snacks).

Not tinned fruit...!
