So last week was definitely a blip. 6.5lb off this week supposedly! Am sure this is water or something. No way I've lost that much. Anyway I'm glad to be back going downwards and now 4.5 lb away from my original target. I'm also now "overweight" not "obese". (I was on the cusp of - but not quite - morbidly obese when I started.)

Now to set a new target and focus through to Christmas and beyond!

Ralphiesaurus · 18/09/2023 19:29

@TomWambsgansSwans I meant to ask is the book you're reading about UPF the van Tulleken one? I'm halfway through. He's a great writer - very engaging but also thorough on the science.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/09/2023 19:39

@Ralphiesaurus well done!

there’s a podcast series called a thorough examination with the van tullekan brothers about UPF - it’s very interesting.

I had a good day today, I made overnight oats and stewed apple, chicken salad and baked potato, and dinner was chilli and rice and HEXa cheese. My Syns were my cooked apple, 2 caramel rice cakes, and a yoghurt, which came to 10 Syns.

it’s my office day tomorrow, it’s always a very long day and I get home and go immediately out to football with ds. I tend to feel absolutely ravenous and eat anything in sight. I’m going to take a portion of chilli and rice for lunch, and a snack box of low syn/free bits. I bought some Good guys crackers, they are really nice and are 1/2 a syn each so I might have those and my A cheese and some chutney after work, before dinner.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/09/2023 20:06

2.6lbs off this week,hooray!!

TomWambsgansSwans · 18/09/2023 20:06

@Ralphiesaurus @thenewaveragebear1983 yes, the book is Ultra Processed People by Chris van Tullekin and I think the podcast (a Thorough Examination) came first.

It actually fits really well with most of Slimming World and definitely helps shift the blame from the individual to the companies who have been advertising and making these foods for profits.

It has made the penny really drop for me - I've lost weight every single week since giving up UPF a month ago.

Yes, I have read this book too and am trying to reduce UPF.
I started SW 6 weeks ago and just got my 1/2 stone award.

Ralphiesaurus · 19/09/2023 19:46

Well done on your half stone, @Inanun2

I think the UPF thing is fascinating (and horrifying!).

I had been doing something not-quite related - reducing sugar and white flour as per "Bright Lines Eating" (although I don't follow BLE to the letter as it's quite extreme and SW makes much more sense to me as a plan). I've found that the less sugar and white flour (and sweeteners) I have, the less I crave foods containing them. Had an eye opener early on (back in April/May when I started SW again) and had a Muller Light yoghurt... and then had MASSIVE munchies all afternoon. BLE suggests that for some people white flour and sugar can be addictive and triggering. Certainly the case for me!

Anyway, it sort-of overlaps with the UPF thing, as a lot of UPF contains sugar (and all its derivatives) and/or flour (and related processed starches), and can be addictive.

I find SW easier to follow doing this. I know I could have lots of pasta etc but am finding it much easier to know when I'm hungry/full when I don't have these things, or only in moderation. Who knew?!

PieonaBarm · 19/09/2023 23:54

I try to cook from scratch, mainly due to anaphylactic allergies my DH has but I'm on nights this week and was starving at 11pm so ate my emergency super noodles I keep in my drawer at work. Pure filth in the form of UPF but it was to early to eat the homemade chilli I have brought with me!

Anyway weigh in was tonight and I lost 1.5lb, so only 2.5 off my stone. Two weigh ins until birthday so am going to get it for then!!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/09/2023 05:49

@PieonaBarm well done. My (first) weigh in is Thursday. I’ve genuinely no idea if I’ll have done well or not, I seem to have eaten loads and I did go over Syns at the weekend as I had social things on. So we’ll see….

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/09/2023 08:35

Shuffles in. Sits on naughty step

Waves to all

I'm an oldie /regular

Got tagged at beginning of thread but wasn't in head space as was having ankle op

The first 4mths of 2023 were a blur of surgery - leg in plaster - not allowed to put any weight on it. Had to sleep downstairs on sofa for 3w and use commode due to no downstairs loo and hop everywhere with a zimmer frame

Leg boot for 3mths and crutches

Wasn't the best few months tbh

Still having physio and have a limp but generally not in too much pain

Anyway I know what to do. I know it works if I stick to it

Lost 2 lbs last week

I'm a tortoise. Slow and steady

Wilma55 · 20/09/2023 09:46

Great to see you back @Blondeshavemorefun ! I'm another tortoise.

Ralphiesaurus · 20/09/2023 10:21

Hello @Blondeshavemorefun ! I am usually a tortoise but then have random chunks that come off (or go on 😬). Very discombobulating. But as long as the overall trend is downwards, right?

TomWambsgansSwans · 20/09/2023 12:32

Fellow tortoise here @Blondeshavemorefun! It has taken me 16 months to lose 1 stone 5lbs. It is, though, the first time I have genuinely been making lifestyle changes sustainably rather than being incredibly unhealthy and slipping into binge-eating behaviour.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/09/2023 13:59

Waves to @Wilma55 @Ralphiesaurus and @TomWambsgansSwans

Not being able to move much /hurts to walk means I've gained extra this year ffs

Hence know I need to kick my arse again

"Sighs'

It used to help me to see what others ate so if you don't mind writing your meals each day I would appreciate it to give me ideas

I seem to stick to same usually stuff but it's nice. Free and keeps me

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/09/2023 21:47

What are the meringue bars please @PieonaBarm

PieonaBarm · 20/09/2023 22:15

Tesco sell them, but they're not cheap. I got 30% off my first order and then got emailed a 40% off code so I got some more. They're a proper sugar hit and they are chewy. Strangely my favourite is the strawberry dipped vegan one.

flowerandwhite.co.uk/

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/09/2023 05:17

Sure I've seen a lemon bar and rainbow /unicorn bar in b&m/pound hops and around 5 syns

I find if I want a chocolate hit I've been eating 4 squares of dark Aldi essential chocolate 43p - 6.5syns

BelandtheDragon · 21/09/2023 10:11

Hello all, been off here for a couple of weeks! Gained 2 pounds last week and maintained this week. Trying to get head in right place post holiday and been hard. Bought my first pair of jeans in several years which has been fab and have ordered new pair of trousers for work which arrive tomorrow. They are size 12 so am hoping they fit. I have no bottoms to wear for work so shopping is needed! Have a half marathon this weekend so trying to ensure I’ve eaten enough without using it as an excuse! I’m hoping it might help to kick the weight loss in the right direction again!
Well done everyone on the losses and as they say on the Secret Workd of Slimming Clubs “ no shame in a gain”😀

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/09/2023 10:54

Size 12. Well done

TomWambsgansSwans · 21/09/2023 12:51

@BelandtheDragon good luck for the half marathon!

I used to do them and learned fairly quickly that carb-loading is basically unnecessary as it just make you need the loo! A slightly bigger bowl of porridge in the morning is enough to keep going.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/09/2023 13:16

B cereal b and frozen fruit

L aldi sweet and sour micro meal 4.5
crisps 4.5 - apple -

T jackets filled with mince and veg cheese a / sc lite 1.5

S skips 3.5

And seems these are a b !!!
