Congratulations on all the losses and welcome to the new members! Best of luck to you; it will be worth it!

Got back from 2 wk holiday yesterday and well, my plan to eat one treat a day while away fell by the wayside! It definitely was death by baguette but I’ve had enough for now. To be honest I didn’t enjoy throwing caution to the wind and eating whatever. I’m looking forward to getting back into it properly tomorrow.

I ran a half marathon this morning so hoping it will have helped. I’m not sure how my home scales relate to SW but it looks like I’ve put on around 2 pounds which I am frankly amazed at. I did run, walk, swim and cycle while away so I think it helped a little. Meeting is Thursday morning so attempting to be back on track tomorrow morning and see what can happen in 3 days. One stone to go 😀

One of the best things on holiday was my clothes and new swimsuit. My trousers were all too big so wore shorts quite a lot which was lovely. Not going to buy any more new clothes until I reach target. Not sure when this will be. Was initially hoping for end of September but think I’ll revise to end of October. Just really looking forward to January 2024 and not having to make a resolution of losing weight.

Mumtothreeandadog · 03/09/2023 20:50

BelandtheDragon sounds like you had a lovely holiday. I can't wait until shorts fit me

TomWambsgansSwans · 03/09/2023 21:09

@BelandtheDragon congratulations on such a minimal gain!

I have set my target and have exactly a stone to go! Definitely want to be there by Christmas!

Wilma55 · 04/09/2023 09:34

Well done to all the losers!

I lost 1lb this week, struggling to get back on it properly. Am now 6 over target so need 3 more off to get back in target "bubble" and not have to pay.

4 weeks till holiday in Crete, if that doesn't motivate me nothing will!

Ralphiesaurus · 04/09/2023 09:44

Disappointed on Thursday with a 0.5lb gain out of nowhere. This has happened before occasionally and I think it's my weird menopausal body playing tricks... Anyway my usual weigh in day is Monday so we shall see this evening.

Was hard to not leap into "sod it" mode over the weekend in response though 😬!

I had the same last week but this week 2.8 lbs off. Weigh loss is an odd thing, see it as an on going process over the month rather than weekly.

Daisyislazy · 04/09/2023 14:36

Hello, I'm registering this week, can I join in?

TomWambsgansSwans · 04/09/2023 17:52

Dive straight in @Daisyislazy! Have you done SW before or is it your first time?

It's my first time ... gulp

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 04/09/2023 18:34

I put on 2.5lb last week after an unbelievable loss the week before. I'm trying not to lose the will continue and remembering the long term goal here.

Ralphiesaurus · 04/09/2023 19:43

OK so that 0.5lb gain on Thurs was def a blip. Really didn't want to go and weigh in tonight as it had really got to me. 3.5lb down 😮and got my 2.5 stone award! Yay!

Ralphiesaurus · 04/09/2023 20:10

Meant to add a thank you to @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor and @Rainsdropskeepfalling for the encouragement to see this over the longer term. I know you're both right - but sometimes it's really hard not to feel discouraged when the scales move in the wrong direction. On Thursday I did get some comfort, however, from Googling that half a pound is a measly 227 grams, which is less than a 330ml glass of water...

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 04/09/2023 20:31

@Ralphiesaurus

Not sure I'll be following in your footsteps at my weighin this week but I'd like to lose 10lb by Xmas so I need to see the bigger picture

TomWambsgansSwans · 04/09/2023 21:10

Welcome @Daisyislazy!

Well done @Ralphiesaurus!

You can do it @Rainsdropskeepfalling - I'm aiming for a stone by the end of the year, so essentially a pound a week until mid-December rather than my usual pound on, pound off that I've mucked about doing since January! I'm so close to target and determined to be there by the end of the year!

Mumtothreeandadog · 04/09/2023 22:17

Ralphiesaurus well done 👏

Mumtothreeandadog · 04/09/2023 22:19

Decided to ignore DH and join online 😀 any advice for my first week?

I do it online and find it easy. Not sure if I'd like the group setting but not ruling it out comply.

My advice is log EVERYTHING in your planner to keep on track. Seems hard at first but becomes really easy in a very short while.

TomWambsgansSwans · 05/09/2023 07:19

Well done @Mumtothreeandadog - do they send you a book if you follow it online? If so, the first six week trackers are really useful.

Otherwise, just enjoy it, it's quite fun to see what you are really eating!

PieonaBarm · 05/09/2023 10:20

I went today for the first time in two weeks and only had a half pound gain which I'm pretty chuffed with. Have 6 weeks until my birthday so I'd like to do half a stone for then which would give me my stone award.

TomWambsgansSwans · 05/09/2023 21:41

That is brilliant @PieonaBarm. I had a work event tonight I got so made myself a little hotel picnic of olives, apple and nuts beforehand rather than the pizza they were serving up at the event!

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 06/09/2023 21:21

1.5lb off. Some kind of miracle. Going to try and focus a bit more this week but I have 5 evening meals out with friends or work.....

Mumtothreeandadog · 07/09/2023 06:52

TomWambsgansSwans no books received so far

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor yep I'm logging everything. The barcode scanner has been an eye opener for me, things that I thought would be low syn because they are branded "low fat" are in fact high in syn

TomWambsgansSwans · 07/09/2023 08:36

@Mumtothreeandadog if you can get to a group the books are quite helpful, not sure how the online version of SW works with them but I bet they don't post them out in that case!

With things advertising themselves as being 'low fat', it is likely they have artificial sweeteners or sugar in to replace the fat. I've just read a book called Ultra Processed People by Chris van Tullekin (one of the twins from Operation Ouch) and he says that any food with a health claim on (low sugar, high fibre, no artificial flavours) is likely to be manufactured to encourage you to over eat it. It's very eye opening and worth a read!

BelandtheDragon · 08/09/2023 09:46

3 pounds off yesterday. Was a surprise and wonder was it dehydration as had ran Wed night and sweated buckets but I’ll take it!
Bought new scales yesterday as my old ones were saying I had 16% body fat (in one leg maybe 😀). The new ones link to an app and body fat is listed as 31.5%. Bit more realistic!
As I delayed my weigh on by going to a Thursday meeting rather than Tuesday this week, I’ve made a rod for my own back and will be back to Tuesday meetings next week. So a few days to lose something even half a pound would be fine.
I’ve never valued a loss of one pound a week as 2 pounds has always been ingrained in me but as I am hopefully on countdown to target, I feel less impatient than I did at the beginning about wanting a quick loss. I now feel that a sustainable loss is more important. Good luck to all over the weekend and beyond!

TomWambsgansSwans · 08/09/2023 20:37

Well done @BelandtheDragon! I am definitely trying slow and steady to get through the last pounds to target - aiming for one a week until December. There is a couple in my group who are lovely but who put on and lose massive amounts (like, four lbs a week for three weeks) then go off the rails and have to start at the top of the hill again.

My tendency is to get a bit distracted and put it all back on again so now I'm trying to go slow, not get too obsessed (taking my knickers off to weigh, not drinking enough the night before weigh-in, etc etc!) and get to target consistently. Fingers crossed I can make it!

Weigh in tomorrow for me - I think I've had a good week.
