@pappajonessecretchild I agree - it's the plod along weight losses that get to there and need to be celebrated as much as 'Steve who lost 8lb this week'. Our consultant does make a deal of congratulating one member who has never put on since she joined, which of course is a great thing, but yes there are lots of members who gently chip away but fall into the SW celebration boxes

I managed to lose while on holiday (fairly sure that was a mistake!) but just back from another 3 days away not on plan so not sure I'll pull that off again. I don't wish the holidays to end but I need routine!

useitorlose · 28/08/2023 13:48

Well done those with recent losses. I'm another plodder, week 8 weigh in today and I was 1.5lbs down, so 8lbs over all. I'd rather be 8lbs lighter than not, so I'm not bothered by how long it's taking. When you're teetotal/vegetarian/high fruit and veg intake/active, it is harder to make changes that have impact. Reducing sugary snacks and impulsive and covert eating has been my biggest benefit from the plan.

TomWambsgansSwans · 28/08/2023 17:36

Hi all, I've been doing SW since April 2022 and have had massive fluctuations and only actually lost a stone BUT I've held it off. Currently 10st 1 and aiming for 8 at 13 (I'm 5 ft 2).

I've just read Ultra Processed People and hifi bars aside it fits quite well with SW!

pelagra · 28/08/2023 20:05

Yes, every week my goal is 1lb off. Over a whole year that would be more than three and a half stone.
I'm tempted go even more slowly. Before joining I lost two stone in two years, and I was happy with that. If I'm dropping the pounds very slowly, then I'm not gaining, and I'm forming new habits.

Devgov · 29/08/2023 12:00

I’m another plodder, my 8th week today and just got my half stone award. I do get disheartened that it’s so slow but at least haven’t put on so that’s a win. Last time I did SW it was much quicker but I’m blaming my age this time!

BetiYeti · 29/08/2023 13:01

I’ve just rejoined, but online this time. I was going to my local meeting earlier in the year. I had limited success there and didn’t really enjoy going to the group. I’m hoping online will get me back on track and I have somewhere to check syns and get recipes etc. I’ve been thoughtlessly snacking all summer and it has to stop! SW offered me £45 for 3 months when I logged in to my old account, which I think is pretty good!

Ralphiesaurus · 29/08/2023 13:45

Forgot to update last week: 1.5 lb down, making 32 lb in total so far since end April. I couldn't go last night so won't be able to weigh-in again until Thursday. Getting close to my original target (which I hoped wasn't going to be my final target - but I wasn't sure I'd be able to stick to it), so I'll set a new target soon, which is quite exciting!

CrackersCheeseAndWinePlease · 30/08/2023 07:21

Hi can I join you all?
I did slimming world a few years ago and lost weight, then I stopped, had a baby and last Thursday when I weighed I was 11st 13.
Since Thursday I've been doing it from home but I think I need to join a group as that keeps me more motivated.
We had a couple of social occasions at the weekend so ate and drank all the wrong things so not expecting much on the scales tomorrow

TomWambsgansSwans · 30/08/2023 08:10

Welcome @CrackersCheeseAndWinePlease! The first weigh in is basically where you wear hobnail boots, an overcoat and go for an all-you-can-eat so that the second week you've definitely lost 5lbs anyway so don't worry!

I much prefer in-person group to doing it myself as I like the motivation. Even though the meetings can be a bit dull, the kick up the bum is always appreciated!

HoldingPatterns · 30/08/2023 08:51

Morning, some good losses here!

I’ve stalled a bit the last two weeks, too much socialising with a few birthdays, still 13lb off since I started at the beginning of July.

Must get back on it properly today as it definitely works for me.

Can anyone recommend a good healthy b cereal? Currently having 25g of M&S sultana bran each day but that’s 4 syns and I’d rather it wasn’t. Am sure there must be a way of searching on the app but I haven’t found it.

Haha yeah that's true!
I've upped my speed food for the last couple of days hoping it'll undo some damage from the weekend 😂
Just had some egg mushrooms and chopped tomatoes for breakfast so I've made a good start today

TomWambsgansSwans · 30/08/2023 09:38

@HoldingPatterns I'd have bran flakes which is a HexB (40g) and then sprinkle 10g sultanas on which would be about two syns.

HoldingPatterns · 31/08/2023 16:46

Thanks @TomWambsgansSwans. I’m not actually that keen on the sultanas so can definitely do without them, I can add a chopped apple instead.

Does anyone know if there is a way of seeing what’s on the b list without scanning or typing everything in?

pelagra · 31/08/2023 17:49

On the app, go to Food Guides, halfway down the front page, and they are listed by category.

HoldingPatterns · 31/08/2023 19:31

Thank you.

TomWambsgansSwans · 01/09/2023 11:36

@pelagra that is brilliant, I've never noticed that before!

I have lost -2lbs this week. One stone to target.

Mumtothreeandadog · 02/09/2023 07:54

Thinking about rejoining, but I have an unsupportive husband in every way possible. He eats loads of chocolate, crisps, fatty goods and absolutely no fruit or vegetables. He doesn't encourage me in any way whatsoever and just laughs at me when I suggest weight loss. I have tried SW loads of times but it has only just struck me that he maybe the reason im not losing weight. I had been blaming myself, I'm a failure etc. I have low self esteem caused by childhood trauma and i have been believing him when he says there is no point as I won't stick it and I just need to live with the size I am. I feel like I'm pushing water uphill, but I'm not happy with my size

TomWambsgansSwans · 02/09/2023 11:09

@Mumtothreeandadog my DH was initially not constructive and tbh it makes it really hard.

I started to plan healthy breakfasts and lunches and then we'd have normal things for dinners that I would use my syns on. He would do things like put two tablespoons of peanut butter in our dinner so basically all the syns for the day.

He did come around eventually and even came with me to group and then lost four stone! Can you get to a group for moral support?

MsCupcake · 02/09/2023 11:17

@Mumtothreeandadog I’m sorry you are unhappy and that your OH isn’t being supportive.
Could you just not tell him and serve SW friendly meals and let him eat the junk on his own?
Think of some reasons/excuses why you don’t want biscuits or crisps just now…… ?

Mumtothreeandadog · 02/09/2023 12:43

MsCupcake he has been moaning about my "healthly" meals and suggested I cooked separately. I don't have the time for that. He would live on a diet of burgers if I let him!! I've told him that we need to compromise and I'll have the same as him but with a SW twist. So if he wants his burgers and chips, I'll have a SW version of the same thing

TomWambsgansSwans good strategy, I think I'll adopt that. He has left for work by the time I eat my breakfast and at work when I'm having my lunch (I work from home) so I can quite easily plan those meals just for me. I'll adopt your strategy and use my syns for evening meals. Thank you.

TomWambsgansSwans · 02/09/2023 14:10

@Mumtothreeandadog depending on how perceptive he is, and the types of food you eat, I just wouldn't tell him whether things are SW meals or not, too!

Many SW meals are basically the same - so things like bolognese, chilli, pasta and sauce etc. I would just tell my DH it was a Jamie Oliver recipe if he asked but usually he was oblivious!

useitorlose · 02/09/2023 14:23

Well done @Ralphiesaurus and @TomWambsgansSwans on your losses and welcome @CrackersCheeseAndWinePlease

@BetiYeti I am also an online member, it's working well for me. I hope you will find the same.

@Mumtothreeandadog that sounds like a tricky situation. Are you doing all the cooking? If so, I'd be tempted to serve up what you want and he can take it or leave it! I know that could cause conflict though. My DH doesn't know I am doing SW as it's online, but then we have never eaten the same things anyway because I'm vegetarian and he isn't.

Mumtothreeandadog · 02/09/2023 14:30

TomWambsgansSwans ha ha, another great idea, I shall adopt that one too 😀having a bolognese later which is now a Jamie bolognese

useitorlose we share the cooking and I used to do the food shopping but due to health reasons I've had to stop driving which means he shops. He huffs and puffs when I add things to his list that are different to his normal list! How are you getting on with online?

PieonaBarm · 02/09/2023 15:30

@Mumtothreeandadog If I was you I'd happily cook separately for you and the kids and dog and let him sort himself out. Then when he asks say "oh I've cooked separately from you like you suggested" he can't say anything then.

He'd go hungry if he lived with me 😂 although I do appreciate how fortunate I am that my DH eats whatever I put in front of him and tells me it's lovely even when it's rancid. He learnt from his Dad, whose phrase is "it's nice this love but don't think it's one we'd have every week" 🤣🤣

Have you thought about a Tesco or Asda delivery if he has to do the shopping? You can get what you want then without having him whinge when you ask for something in particular.

Mumtothreeandadog · 02/09/2023 18:15

PieonaBarm he says online is too expensive and prefers Aldi
