Pinch of Nom or Hairy Dieters. I have some of the books. Think there is an old thread with links to some good sites, Slimming Eats? Will see if I can find it.

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 29/07/2023 19:15

@Wilma55 thank you. I'll take a look now

The chicken drumsticks went in the bin. I made another recipe from the SW app that was awful. The other one or two have been ok but what says it serves 4 has served nearer to 8 so I've had the same thing every day of the week (after the first outing was to feed all 4 of us).

I'm on week 4 and I've a bad feeling this is where my weight loss plateaus and I lose the will.

storminamooncup · 30/07/2023 08:56

Lost 3lbs this week so 13lbs in total.

Still struggling with figuring out how to do chips properly in the ninga dual

Wilma55 · 30/07/2023 14:19

@storminamooncup I've got a ninja two drawer air fryer. Have done chips from raw, soaked in eater drained, par boiled (5 mins). Think I did them on roast 180 for 15 mins. Once happy almost done, shaking every 5 mins, finish on Aurora fry or crisp for 5 mins. I usually buy frozen now! How have you been doing them?

I find the sw recipes a bit meh. Pinch of nom are usually good but not synned. I used to do WW and still use some of those recipes

pelagra · 30/07/2023 17:00

I'm glad it's not just me. I'm quite uninspired with SW recipes, particularly their vegetarian ones, which seem to revolve around fake meat.
I like https://www.slimmingeats.com/blog/?s=week which gives meal plans for the whole week.

The only SW recipe I do is a salmon frittata which is gorgeous. Everything else I just cook what I always cooked but now adapt slightly.

Well done!

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 30/07/2023 19:20

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor amusingly if I put salmon into the search window on the app, the top hit is for vegan ice cream.

Wilma55 · 30/07/2023 20:29

Ha ha, the search facility on the app is rubbish!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 31/07/2023 11:47

I'm going to try it now ... 🤣

I lost 1.5 lbs last week, very happy as I struggled all week.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 31/07/2023 11:49

I put salmon in the search and all the salmon recipes come up. Must be having a blip.

BelandtheDragon · 02/08/2023 10:21

I’ve not been overly inspired by the SW recipes. I made a lentil chilli a few nights ago. It will be going in the bin.
I missed weigh in last night as home from work late so will go 8am tomorrow morning. Another day of trying to be good!
I’m 3.5 pounds off my 2 stone award and know I haven’t lost that much for tomorrow but hoping it will be 2 pounds and will get award by next Tuesday. I’m struggling with the SW way of eating after 3 mths but trying to keep to it approx 90% of the time. I just know I can’t eat unlimited pasta, rice etc without it having a negative impact.

My family are away visiting in laws at moment so am alone in house and have been buying bare minimum food so no temptation! I have a 2 wk holiday in few wks time. I don’t want to spend my time thinking about SW but also don’t want to undo the efforts I’ve put in.

Well done on the losses. I’ll report back tomorrow.

BelandtheDragon · 02/08/2023 10:23

Well done @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor and & @storminamooncup on your losses!

BelandtheDragon · 03/08/2023 08:29

1.5lb off at early morning weigh in group. 2lbs until 2 stone award. Need to buckle down if going to make this for normal weigh in next Tues evening. Beginning to wonder if Thurs morning might be better. More time to recover from weekend!

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 03/08/2023 19:49

@BelandtheDragon that's great - so close now

Alas I put on at this week's weigh in - I was expecting it as I had a sneak peak (yes I know...) But I honestly didn't do anything differently this week than last week, no days off plan, under my quote of syns and weighing any cheese I have.... Oh well. I'll take the average over a month....

Pawtucketbrew · 06/08/2023 09:18

Morning. Just calculated my BMI and now hit 40! My weight gain has been fast over the past 8 years since having a child, taking an SSRI and and hitting meno....gained around 40kg in that time!! I am really starting to worry about the health implication, lack of finding any clothes that fit and the fact I feel really unfit! Anyway, to cut a long story short I have decided to join SW again. I am calling my GP tomorrow as I think they do a referral scheme but if not I will just fork out.

I like SW as it is based around a lot of the meals I already cook at home like Spag bol, stir fries and so on so hoping I can just adapt a bit. My main issue will be to stop snacking and stress eating.

Looking for slow and steady weightloss over the next 12 months but would be nice to have a bit of a woosh at the start to keep me motivated. Will also attempt 30 day shred which I have done before and works for me.

storminamooncup · 06/08/2023 10:38

stayed the same this week, don't know why and quite pissed off about it :(

Don't be, you'll probably catch up next week. Weight loss is an odd thing, I now look at it over the course of a month and as long as it's going down that's fine with me. I have had weeks when I've been super strict and not lost much and others where I've lost 3.5lbs and have had chocolate and a takeaway!

Well done and good luck. I never had a big loss at the beginning and was really disappointed, I have now learned I'm slow and steady and 3.5 stone down now.

PieonaBarm · 07/08/2023 09:59

I started fresh last week. 22 years ago I lost 5 stone but in 2021 a brush with death (thanks Covid!) resulted in a 2 stone gain. Ive been going to group but yo-yoing with the same 5lb or so, but I stepped on the scales last week and was the heaviest I've been in 22 years and a switch flipped.

I've been good. Like really good, my coworker has been great when I told him, not tried to feed me Haribo, synned all the stuff I never used to 😂, and I'm hoping for a loss! I know a lot of the first week is water whoosh for me, but it's nice to see on the scales and I hope to see a loss!

PieonaBarm · 08/08/2023 17:27

Well my being really good and writing absolutely everything down worked, I lost 6.5lb in my first week. I know some of that is first week water but I'd like to think it's a solid loss in there too!

Wilma55 · 08/08/2023 18:00

Wow, well done @PieonaBarm !
Don't be disappointed if its a lot less next week.

PieonaBarm · 08/08/2023 18:36

Oh I won't be! I don't expect more than a maintain! Anything would be a bonus.

BelandtheDragon · 08/08/2023 20:14

1.5lbs off for me this week so 1/2 pound off 2 stone mark. Someone at work brought some gorgeous fudge back from Scotland and yesterday, yes, I ate several lumps of it! But it was nice and worth it😁. I was hoping being in the office would stop me snacking, I was wrong.

Made SW chicken curry so have been eating it every night for dinner. DH has been away for two weeks so no crap in the house which has been a help. I told him last night on video call that he was the reason for my weight gain! He looked bemused!

Well done on the loss @PieonaBarm - that’s fab!!
@Pawtucketbrew - have you listened to Secret World of Slimming Clubs podcast? Lots of discussion on it about the whoosh!
