Hello, @pelagra and @Devgov, and welcome!

@storminamooncup and @Devgov I hear you about being frustrated when the losses are slower than you’d like. Our bodies seem to do their own thing! Only thing is that if you do stick to it, it does work. My consultant says “believe in the process” and she’s right. Really brilliant to be doing this at 75, @Devgov even if it’s slower than you would like. Just look forward to feeling a bit better generally - it will come. I still have a way to go to target (and may move my initial target when I get there) but already am finding day to day a LOT easier.

I usually weigh in on a Monday but can’t today as I have an evening meeting. I’ll go to one of my consultant’s other groups later in the week. Am nervous about it though, after my random gain last week and feeling v bloated (?! TMI sorry) at the moment. But need to take my consultant’s advice I think, and trust!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 10/07/2023 10:25

Weighed in this morning and 1.2 kilos off, I'm delighted as I've hovered around the 20 kilos off for a few weeks even though I've been on plan.

LeftyLou · 10/07/2023 16:19

Hello and welcome @Devgov and @pelagra 😀

@storminamooncup really well done on your half stone. I feel its unfair when we get so frustrated with ourselves especially when how hard we try. You should be very proud of that.

@Devgov 1 lbs in first week or any week is amazing. We have a replica of what 1 lbs of fat looks like. Its huge!

Well done on your loss @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor and good luck for this week @Ralphiesaurus

I bought a chocolate milk drink from lidl. They come in cartons and are called Cacaolat. I used the app but it didn't have it on there so used the syns estimator. I put all the relevant info in correctly I assumed. It comes up with it been 0.5 syn for a portion. I thought this cannot be right. (Be amazing if it was) So I did it again and it came up with 6.5 syns for a carton. I changed it from per 100ML to per serving. So I'm putting it as 6.5.
However a question it asks for portion size. What does that mean? Would I put 1 because I've had one or would it put 200 because the carton is 200ML?

pelagra · 10/07/2023 20:49

I haven't played with the estimator before. I found the Cacaolat label on Amazon, and tried it. Assuming no free food, I came up with 8 syns for a 200ml portion.

Isn't there a rule of thumb that 20 calories is 1 syn, so 79 calories per 100ml woukd be about right. I might go and try it on something that has a known syns value to see if I understand the estimator.

Wilma55 · 11/07/2023 14:59

I haven't tried the syn estimates but can't comment on that.

I have just discovered having started to use the app again, that it can be synced to my fitbit. Hope this will motivate me to up the exercise. Does anyone know if it will automatically add any other exercise apart from steps?

Slimming World 2023 - All Starters, Returners and anybody else welcome
LeftyLou · 11/07/2023 15:24

Thank you @pelagra I'll count it as 8.

I don't often use it only cos I find it quite difficult to navigate.

Oh yes I have noticed that. I don't know where my fitbit is so been using mapmywalk. So it just asks for how long in minutes I have been walking on the sw app. I think you can add your own exercises so I have walking on mine and house work. There the only kind of movement I actually do.

pelagra · 11/07/2023 19:30

Weighed this morning, lost 2.5lb and unjustifiably got Slimmer of the Week. Two people lost more, but didn't stay as it was a substitute leader.

Wilma55 · 11/07/2023 20:05

Well done @pelagra I've never won slimmer of the week! 😔

LeftyLou · 13/07/2023 14:32

Well done @pelagra 😀

I have had a gain 3 weeks in a row now
I am going to be controversial and do slimfast for breakfast and lunch with a slimming world meal.
I am also going to try and snack less and have no crisps whatsoever. I cant ever have just one packet.

Ralphiesaurus · 13/07/2023 17:44

4lb off but am counting that as 2.5lb off over two weeks after my weird gain last week! Bit of a relief though. Am having to weigh on Thursdays for a couple of weeks rather than my usual Monday.

Well done @pelagra 👏

Sorry to hear about your gain @LeftyLou I find I need more speed than they suggest and less carbs (even if supposedly "free"). We all have to find our own ways I think...

Wilma55 · 15/07/2023 14:03

@LeftyLou have you tried Slimfast before? I did it years ago and it worked, just found it boring but good for a short while.

1.5 lb off this morning, happy with that. Out for curry tonight, will have what I want within reason.

8lb to target.

storminamooncup · 16/07/2023 07:28

That's 9lbs in 3 weeks for me now.

I need more low syn chocolate ideas though. Last time I did SW, you could buy bags of mini toblerone (milk version) which I think were only 1.5 syns and bags of mini smarties (2.5 syns) and this time you can't find them anywhere!

So suggestions please! Every other chocolate suggestion is 4 or 5 syns with the exception of 99 flakes (2 syns) and the vienna chocolate lollies from aldi (3 syns).

(I am doing SW from memory btw so the syns might have changed slightly)

Wilma55 · 16/07/2023 10:13

2 maltesers = 1 syn

3 giant buttons = 2 syns

As long as you don't eat them all!

useitorlose · 16/07/2023 16:08

Hi, new joiner here. I have at least 1.5 stone to lose.

Can someone give me a few quick answers - when it says almost all fruit and almost all veg are free, what is excluded? I don't mean random fruit and veg available in other countries, but everyday ones! Thanks so much.

Wilma55 · 17/07/2023 06:34

Hi @useitorlose useand welcome.
off the top of my head canned fruit whether in syrup or juice has syns and so does avocado.

Do you have the books or app?

BelandtheDragon · 18/07/2023 21:45

Hello everyone, hope everyone well. Need to read the new threads properly. Last week’s loss was 1/2 pound and this week’s was two. Was surprised as was at two parties on Saturday and alcohol and curry was enjoyed at the second one!!!
Got my 1.5 stone award tonight and reached my interim target. 11.12 and a half I think. Next interim is 11 stone. I’ve been struggling a bit as not been doing the food shopping so need to get more focused. On holiday last two weeks of August and would be lovely to even get my 2 stone award at 11.6 and a half. Should be achievable…..

pelagra · 19/07/2023 15:42

Well done! I'm looking forward to getting an award.
How do interim targets work?

Ralphiesaurus · 20/07/2023 19:44

1.5lb off for me and got my 2 stone award 🙂

@pelagra I think an interim target is where you set a target that you know/hope won't be your final one. I did that, and am less than a stone away from it. It seemed too much to go right for my main actual goal, at the beginning. When I get closer to my current target I'm going to adjust it.

I've got one more week at group and then two weeks away on holiday, which I have been hanging on for basically all year. I need to sort my work-life balance out as this is no way to live! Anyway... need to make sure I don't go mad on holiday and undo what I've achieved so far...

Wilma55 · 22/07/2023 12:32

Well done @BelandtheDragon and @Ralphiesaurus.

WI this morning and 1/2 lb off, not too bad considering curry out and been making do meal wise as have a cold. Also had loads of Jakemans lozenges which are 2 syns each I think.

storminamooncup · 23/07/2023 07:36

I've lost 10lbs in a month now. I am about to start my TOTM so feel a bit bloated this week. Also going away with work for a few days so a bit worried about sticking to the diet.

Does anyone have a Ninja dual airfryer? If so, how do you make your chips? We just can't seem to get them 'right', despite following the instructions.

BelandtheDragon · 26/07/2023 02:01

Well done @storminamooncup Afraid I’m no help with air fryer as don’t have one but am thinking about it.

Weigh in for me Tuesday evening and had lost 2.5 pounds. I think I could have lost more but was worried about too much coming off and it being more muscle than fat so had eased up a little at weekend.
Ran about 25 miles over last week and think this was main reason.

Anyway on to this week….this evening wasn’t great. Rubbish day at work and DH/DC have gone to Ireland and I’m on my own for 2 wks. Didn’t think I’d miss them so much.

Resorted to Dr Oeteker pizza for dinner. It wasn’t too bad calorie wise but definitely not SW friendly! Ran 7.5km tonight so hopefully will help a little. Will run again over next few days as have time.

3.5 pounds to 2 stone award and then on countdown to last stone and target! It feels like time has gone quickly. Started beginning of May and 3ish months later, I’m nearly 2 stone down.

I know I won’t be at target for holiday in late August but who cares! I’ll be spending it hiking and really looking forward to wearing shorts and not making yet another resolution to lose weight when I get home.

pelagra · 26/07/2023 22:11

That is an impressive loss @BelandtheDragon You must be pleased with the commitment and focus you have demonstrated.

pelagra · 26/07/2023 22:14

I came back from weighing yesterday inspired by rest of the group. Which made it all the more frustrating when I discovered I had clicked on the wrong things in my online shop, and ordered full fat Greek Yoghurt and sweetened almond milk.

BelandtheDragon · 26/07/2023 22:17

Thanks @pelagra . My DH came home from supermarket last week with two tubs of full fat Greek yoghurt. I think I will make some ice cream with it for my DH/DC. I’m sure I saw a recipe on FB.

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 29/07/2023 15:28

Just popping on to ask for your favourite source of slimming world friendly recipes?

I've just made the slimming world devilled chicken drum sticks and they look like nothing like the picture. There was so much yoghurt in the recipe that I've now got chicken drumsticks cooling with a layer of orange yoghurt on them (I think I can wipe it off) - I guess that's the disadvantage of yoghurt based marinade? I'll learn and move on...
