Dry January to Decadent December: Slimming World Support Thread 2022

All welcome Smile I joined Slimming World in November and so far lost 9.5lb, a bit of a gain over Christmas but getting there - I have around 3 stone to lose and I am looking forward to fitting into clothes not worn for a long time and have a big family wedding coming up. I would like to look like the slim, glamourous Aunt in the photos (without upstaging the bride!) Grin

That's a good result Light. Been and done the Waddle, everybody was really friendly, and had coffee at the caff later. Caff actually adds another 30 mins total walking, so all good for da Body Magic. I got the 5 Cookbook free with a 6 week block at SW, and there are actually some recipes I might fancy a go at. Made some SW rice pudd in the slow cooker with cardamoms and rosewater. Lush!

Carpediem15 · 30/07/2022 13:46

Thanks for the Chelle link, just subscribed and will do some catching up when the football is on this afternoon.

LightandAiry · 31/07/2022 17:42

SpongeBobJudgeyPants I do like the sound of that rice pudding. I don't use my slow cooker enough, especially in this weather, saves the oven going on. Park Run sounds fun, but I am partly put off by my Dh who does very well and finishes in half the time I do. I know I shouldn't let it put me off, but I don't do it with him iyswim. There is a pub at the start and finish of our Park Run, and they lay on coffees, which is nice. It's a lovely route by the waterside, best one round here.

Carpediem I hope you like Chelle's YouTube channel. I like most of her content, she is super organised and I was actually inspired to do a power hour of cleaning! I like tracymouse as she is showing us how she is maintaining, which is the challenging bit.

I have been thinking....as you do on a Sunday. I found an old note book from 2010, and I'd recorded my weight, I'd lost 1.5 stone. It occurred to me that maintaining is a great achievement that needs constant work, and it's lifelong.

In my mind, I think "well that's the diet over" and go back bit by bit to old habits, especially as I am a comfort eater, and just generally enjoy my food very much. I started at the weight I am now in 2010, then lost the weight. This time I gained twice another 1.5 stone. My measurements were 3 inches less than I am now and I still have the clothes I fitted into, nice summer stuff that hasn't dated.

I've not actually lost any weight since my 1.5 stone award in March; same few pounds on and off, but if I hadn't carried on at group I would have gained most back by now.

This time I am seeing it through and staying as a target member. Realistically life happens and there are times when we gain back some of the weight. But I do feel so much better having lost 22.5lb, the same again to lose now. Taking into account blips, cappuccinos, life etc realistically I am aiming for January.

Hope everyone is OK.

LightandAiry · 31/07/2022 17:43

Oh that's a bit long Grin

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 31/07/2022 18:35

Light, that's fair enough. Good to have a muse about stuff, I think it helps work it out? I need to accept that I need the accountability of weighing for life to maintain. Usual pattern in the past for me has been lose weight, get compliments, get to goal. Stop getting compliments, as people get used to Slim Me. Gain weight. Rinse and repeat. Apparently some people manage to build their own reward system for maintaining weight. I need to do this!

Carpediem15 · 31/07/2022 18:58

LightandAiry - yes I watched quite a few of Chelle ytubes and subscribed. I lost 5.5 stone in 2000 and kept it off until lockdown then I don't know what happened, went made with the rubbish and gained 2.4st. and bought larger clothes. I have only just decided it must go as, like you, I have some nice clothes (some unworn, still with labels on) from before lockdown which are in the airtight bags and want to wear them again so must crack on with this SW lark.😀

LightandAiry · 31/07/2022 19:50

A reward system for maintaining - treats that are non food I suppose, Slimming World may have something on that. I know what you mean about people noticing then it becomes old news Sponge.

Glad you like Chelle Carpe I like her meals. She is more of a maintainer too. My DD has got herself a little job in a clothes shop and gets 40% off so that may be an incentive for me.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 31/07/2022 20:25

I think I need to watch some of those videos, bit short of time at the moment, but soon...@Carpediem15 your new clothes are probably a good incentive. I try hanging stuff outside my wardrobe to inspire me sometimes.

Non food treats, I need to think about @LightandAiry I think I tend to treat myself anyway, whereas I should/could build in stuff for 1/2 stone achievements etc, then carry it on for successful maintaining weigh ins or something.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 02/08/2022 10:00

Going to go out and do my Refuge 62 miles in August bit soon. That's worth a large synny muffin surely? Grin

LightandAiry · 02/08/2022 16:09

That's worthwhile SpongeBobJudgeyPants assume you do a few miles per day.

I am having a good week (I won't mention the weekend) just collected my DD from her job and I only stared at the menu at Kaspa puddings - really fancied an ice cream - and had an Americano instead!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 02/08/2022 21:41

Thanks Light. Kaspa puddings...what are these things of which you speak? Glad you've had a good week. The idea is 2 miles per day, but today I did the park run route again, so about 4 miles today. Is a really nice walk, except one woman stopped us to tell us all about the nearby quarry, another gave us a ten minute soliloquy about sending friend requests on FB which aren't accepted, and then the confrontation she has with these unfortunates when she sees them around town. That might be connected to why they don't want to be your friend Grin and a bloke on a bike making strange grunting noises on a very flat bit of track!
How is everyone else doing?

LightandAiry · 03/08/2022 07:23

SpongeBobJudgeyPants Kaspa is like Sprinkles, pudding palace, but all I did was look through the window and at the menu, so if I don't lose weight this week I will sulk!

You did meet some interesting folk on your walk Grin must be friendly your neck of the woods. Fair play to the Facebook lady, but hardly worth talking about! I do get people who've sent friend requests due to a tenuous link with me, for example kids at same university, then when they see I am boring they unfriend me, but they're safe from me asking them about it as I have no idea who they are or where they live! Oh meant to ask you how are Ethel's Slinky Slimmers? I think ages ago you changed Slimming World group.

Anyway, I forgot to mention I got Slimmer of the Week Halo I have a duplicate fridge magnet as I won it before: "if you believe in your dream no goal is too extreme" I can read it twice now, and a nice basket of goodies. It was one of those happy clappy weeks, bit boring those.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 03/08/2022 09:00

Well done for being Slimmer of the week Light. Every week is happy clappy week at ours! I only missed it last week cos I paid and went for my hospital appointment. Not sure which was worse tbh! It does seem to be how they are trained. I miss WW in that respect, who didn't go round every woman and her dog in the room. I changed groups to my current one a while ago, and this one is a lot better, consultant much more motivational. The downside of a popular group is that there are more people to go round. Also, at WW, becuase you got weighed by the WW person, people had their couple of minutes at the scales to ask stuff. We get weighed by volunteers while SW Teach wafts about, and when we do the ask around, peeps seem to talk about stuff that could have been got out of the way if the weighing arrangements were different. I do think that WW have this bit right tbh.

As I've done about 8 miles in excercise this week, I will be disapointed if I've done anything worse than a maintain, but the proof of the kaspa pudding is in the eating at the meeting scales! Grin

LightandAiry · 03/08/2022 13:16

Impressive walking, I slept very badly & all I feel like doing is vegging on the sofa later on! I should go on a walk but very knackered. The scales should reward you SpongeBobJudgeyPants. One week when I'd done a 12 mile walk I gained, but was rubbish on plan. Remind me what day is your weigh in?

Hope everyone is OK.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 03/08/2022 18:12

My Weigh in is Thursday.... I'm twitching a bit already. I'm not sleeping too well either Light. Does the heat affect your sleep too?

LightandAiry · 03/08/2022 21:36

Yes feels very stuffy as night, cooler today though. Good luck for tomorrow, anything in the right direction is a bonus but it sounds to me like you'll be OK

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 04/08/2022 06:34

Thanks Light, we'll see soon! FWIW, I bought a dog bed chiller thing, from Wilko. Cost me £6, and I sometimes sleep with it. No chilling required, activated by pressure on it. Bliss.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 04/08/2022 17:24

1 llb off. I can live with that!

How is everybody?

LightandAiry · 04/08/2022 18:42

Well done SpongeBobJudgeyPants I'll be happy with 1lb Saturday. But I am not having the best of days. Went walking and came back ravenous, say no more, but it involved peanut butter on toast...!

LightandAiry · 04/08/2022 18:43

I like the sound of the dog bed chiller, but it has been cooler past couple of evenings

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 04/08/2022 20:56

Peanut butter...yum. Good job I don't have any, that sounds really good! Some days it's easier to do SW than others, I thinks.

Lanawashington · 05/08/2022 10:35

I'm joining in too please Smile have lost 1st 4lbs so far but it's taken a while! Only about another 4 to go Blush

LightandAiry · 05/08/2022 18:53

Welcome Lanawashington and well done on your 1 stone 4lb. It's taken me a long while too. Do you go to a group or online, or on your own at home?

I have my weigh in tomorrow 🤞 not been great on plan so a stay the same or small loss would be great.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 06/08/2022 18:02

@Lanawashington Hi 😀

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 06/08/2022 18:04

How did you get on @LightandAiry ?
