Well done for keep going Alemoneypea, how are you doing keeping it off?

I'm going to try and drink more water and herbal teas. I was really good at drinking loads when I lost weight for my wedding. I've already had more today than I normally would. At least if I cut down on the tea I can cut down on my milk syns or have cheese instead of milk as a healthy extra.

latedecember1963 · 07/09/2017 18:05

That's why I find herbal/fruit teas useful. During the day I have water or fruit tea until I get home from work when I swap to coffee. I like my coffee quite milky so I'd go way over my milk allowance otherwise.

ALemonyPea · 07/09/2017 19:02

Managing fine so far. The past few weeks have been quite challenging as I've been in holiday and had no kitchen. Have out some on, but working at getting it off.

emwithme · 07/09/2017 19:13

Hi all. Am back on it like a pretty floral bonnet.

Started my new job on Monday, it's really full on but in a good way, and I think I'm going to enjoy it. Only downside is there's been cake twice so far this week (but I've only had a single, small piece each time and not had any other syns). Because of the job I've had to change from a morning group to an evening one, so was thrilled to maintain this week.

I've got 13.5 lbs to get off to get back into target and I'd like to be there by Christmas (I'm not a quick loser, getting to target was a slow chip-away-at-it, 0.75 lbs a week on average).

Groovee · 07/09/2017 19:16

Argh, why does SW always get slated on here? People who have never sat in a new members talk, always go on about how it's full of muller lights and mugshots!!

Trills · 07/09/2017 19:31

TBF I have been eating Muller lights, but no more than one a day.

Trills · 07/09/2017 19:33

It is of course possible to "game" the rules and eat lots of not-great stuff, but why would you want to?

It's not a magic spell, so if you eat badly but "technically within the rules" you won't lose weight so you may as well just go and eat badly in a more normal fashion.

Trills · 07/09/2017 19:36

Ky - I wouldnt't hink of your lunch as being "bad", but it would be good to have a think of how you could make it better and nicer at the same time. If you had some speed foods, you'll feel fuller, and get some vitamins and other good stuff.

What goes nicely with a sandwich? A pot of cut-up melon? I like apples but only when they are cut up. Some cherry tomatoes?

I know it feels weird to be thinking "I must eat some MORE food". :)

Riversleep · 07/09/2017 19:41

I lost 2 1/2 lb this week, even though I've been a bit dim about getting it into my head!I've only really got into the swing on it for the past couple of days, although I have cut down my sweet things significantly. I bought a pack of mint Hi Fi bars at the weigh in, ate one while I was there, bought the rest home where they were promptly scoffed by the kids! Bit of an expensive treat, they were then! I've bought a recipe book too as some of my meals have been distinctly disgusting this week. Not so much because its been SW but because I've been quite busy, so just chucked things in the oven etc and shoved some veg at the side. They seem quite nice and good fresh food, not at all some of the bleugh sounding recipes I read on another thread!

mayathebee · 07/09/2017 20:17

I've lost 2lbs this week but mostly through being too stressed and busy to eat so not a long term strategy! I need to be more organised with food and make the time to eat this week. Only 1.5 lbs to go to get my first stone off.

emwithme · 07/09/2017 20:36

Yeah, it annoys me when people say it's all "muller lights and mugshots". I don't do muller lights and not only because DH works for a competitor of theirs, so we have yoghurts he's "made" and mugshots are great in a pinch but I'd much rather have proper food

In fact, because we had an early dinner tonight (as DH had to go out to a meeting) I know I'm going to be hungry again before bed, so I'll have a mushroom omelette. It'll take less time than a mugshot does to prepare and is completely syn free - and also "traditionally" healthy.

Boatsnack · 07/09/2017 20:36

groovee try to ignore them people slate what they don't understand. If you look closely enough on here the place is full of disabilism, ageism, fattism, poorism, richism and plain old racism.

Today I've had

B - fruit and greek yoghurt
L - poached eggs with spinach
D - cheese pasta with salad

Syns - wine

What's not too love 😁

ALemonyPea · 07/09/2017 21:28

Groovee, there's at least one a week. They've nowt better to do.

Can't wait until my kitchen is properly finished! I need to do a proper shop, can't cope with this shopping daily malarkey.

Groovee · 08/09/2017 07:59

But why never some of the other diets? That's what gets to me.

Woke up feeling choked with the cold. Head is pounding! Would like to go back to bed but I'm missing ingredients for the Jambalaya so will have to go to the shops.

Riversleep · 08/09/2017 16:39

I think to be fair, it's quite an easy diet to pick arguments with. Surely 'syns' can't have been the best word they could come up with? I know they say it means synergy, but they used to be sins. Replacing one letter doesnt really mean anything. It still sounds the same, and still indicates naughty and sinful things like olive oil and avocadoes, as well as chocolate and pastry. It doesnt take into account that so many vitamins in vegetables are fat soluble. Also, although the best way of doing it is by filling your plate with fruit and vegetables with a little protein and use your syns on healthy fats with a few treats, you can also do it with a shedload of mullerlights, Hi fi bars and mugshots. At heart, it's a healthy diet but it does shoot itself in the foot by trying to make things easier for people by saying yes you can eat fake chocolate bars and shedloads of artificial sweeteners if you like. I'm trying to do it through healthy eating and avoiding artificial sweeteners, because I know that if I give in to the artificial sweetners, my sugar cravings will still be overwhelming.

Trills · 08/09/2017 19:47

It's definitely at the "easy to game" end of the spectrum rather than the "overly prescriptive" end.

But I like the freedom.

My trust in the system would not be increased if they started saying "You can't have artificial sweeteners". They have no calories, it makes sense that you can have them if you like.

ALemonyPea · 08/09/2017 20:34

I think it also depends on your consultant. Ours is always saying it's best to snack on speed foods rather than free or synned ones. Makes perfect sense.

You're never going to lose weight it you eat several mullerlights a day, they're 100 cals a pot! I don't like them anyway, they taste very synthetic. I love Danone light and free ones. Although could easily set all 4 pots of cherry in one sitting (I don't)

If you approach SW with the right head on, and understand it, then it does work. If you like your plate with free foods like potatoes and pasta, you'll never get to where you want to be

Groovee · 08/09/2017 22:00

Me and raspberries are non stop just now! Dh has commented that I open the pack for one and eat the whole lot 😂

OwlinaTree · 08/09/2017 22:04

Lovely tea tonight, sw chips, salad and burger with cheese. 7syns for the burger, hex a of cheese, salad cream and ketchup another 2.5 syns. Felt really satisfied after and didn't miss the bun. Watched zoolander 2 while eating... Hummm not as good as the first one.

Groovee · 08/09/2017 22:22

Owlina, that looks lovely.

Day 3 and had another good day. Been out to buy a new coat. The last one I bought was a 20! Bought a 14 tonight! Managed to get a couple of tops for work too as I literally have no work stuff. Feel a lot happier. Now to get back to work. Fingers crossed I get some supply work soon. I'm bored.

tabulahrasa · 09/09/2017 00:10

"But why never some of the other diets? That's what gets to me. "

My theory is that it's because being overweight is a moral issue and people should suffer to lose weight, so if it doesn't involve enough hardship people get weird about it. (Not my opinion on what losing weight shouldn't involve, just what I take from threads like that)

WW is ok because it involves being hungry and tiny portions... SW isn't because god forbid you should lose weight and change what you're eating instead of how much.

I mean the fact that I lost weight with WW while existing completely on 24 points of chocolate a day is clearly not a flaw in WW, but apparently people doing that with muller lights is some sort of marketing plan by SW Hmm

Groovee · 09/09/2017 08:01

Very true @tabulahrasa

Riversleep · 09/09/2017 08:02

I agree WW is far more unsustainable. Who is going to weigh all their food for the rest of their lives? It's the SW marketing that I have an issue with. I like the diet so far. I've bought the free and easy book and have done a week's meals out of it for next week. Did someone mention 1/2 syn sausages from Aldi? What are they called?

Trills · 09/09/2017 09:37

I'm going to a wedding today. Oh dear. That won't be good for points.

Not the full thing, but a long evening do.

Any tips for what to eat beforehand or how to tackle a buffet?

Don't try to talk me out of drinking though.

Trills · 09/09/2017 09:38

Other diets don't get as many bashing threads because it's easier to see how they work, even if you have only the vaguest idea of the "rules".
