Sorry for being AWOL for ages. Blush

Last week I had a 1lb gain which really pissed me off cos I had stuck to plan. Then away for this weekend which I ate out every meal and was dreading weigh in. Lost 0.5lb. Grin It makes no sense at all. Total pig last night as celebrating DS being home from his travels. We went to a local restaurant where he wants to get a job and I was terrible! Then came home and carried on. Blush I was then awake most of the night feeling awful and feeling sick. I wont be doing that again. Back on it today and aiming high for next week - if I can claw back last nights disaster.

emwithme · 22/03/2017 09:18

Giveover as the Simpson's said and if my PC was working properly I'd insert the gif here but it's playing silly bastards so I can't "You don't win friends with salad" Over winter, my "salads" tend to be "open a bag of mixed leaves from supermarket wonder why you bought that one as you don't like one of the leaves in it and add cheery tomatoes".

Northern Welcome. We're a friendly mob here but do have a large stick that is wielded occasionally - but only if you need it!

Positive Good to see you back! (In off-topic stuff, which optional modules did you choose. I really want to do all three of Personal Tax, Business Tax and Credit Control but need to make a decision!)

Lavender I had something different set as my target then realised that losing a couple more pounds would mean I was 100 lbs lighter than my heaviest ever, so went for that! It's also a weight that I feel happy at, look (relatively) good at and can maintain (as proved from November to February... just need to get my head back in the game and get back into target)

I managed another day on plan yesterday. The aim is three in a row today.

B: Eggy muffins
L: Butternut squash soup, apple, pear, satsumas
D: Either bolognaise or chili con carne, depends on which DH prefers later!
HEA: Milk
HEB: Hifi bars

Morning all

Welcome newbies and well done losers.

Back from wi and lost a measly 0.5lbs. Sigh. I really need to change things around a bit. I am having loads of veg and salad, not many carbs (1 portion a day generally) and not really overdoing free food.

So yesterday was a massive plate of salad, 5 crabsticks and a small can of anchovies for lunch. Tea was a lancashire hotpot made with really lean lamb, leaks, carrots and topped with sliced potatoe. 1 tble spoon of flour and 2 stock cubes for gravy. Served with green beans and broccoli. And a small portion of celeriac mash. 2 g and ts (35 ml) with free tonic. 2 hifi bars.

That's probably a heavy day. Would usually have 1 gin, usually 1 carb on tea.

I don't know where to cut down? Or increase speed.

I could drop the gin but it really is my only vice and I did dry January for 3 weeks and it didn't make a deal of difference.

I am moving around more as the ponies come back into work as the weather improves.

I am 5ft 5in and weigh 11st 8.5lbs so still have weight to lose. My target is 10st and it seems so far away right now. Over the last month I have lost 2lbs. On plan over the week generally with Friday as a treat night but still probably less than 105 syns for the week.

Dunno what to do different?

ALemonyPea · 22/03/2017 09:40

Well done losers.

Em, I now have that song in my head. You don't make friends with salad dadadadadadada.

I only by bagged salads. Life is too short to chop up lettuce. If I go to the local farmers market I buy lambs lettuce, chard and spinach and make my own, but no chopping required. I wish I liked tomatoes though.

Can you post the chickpea curry recipe please. I love chickpeas, nobody else in my house does, but I can batch cook it for myself.

After my complete fallout yesterday, I'm back on it. Wishing I'd taken a few more weeks off group to recover as I knew my weight wouldn't be shifting much, it's truly disheartening listening to everyone losing weight and mine not going anywhere.

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me - I started slimming world about 2 weeks ago, I'm just a little confused about the Healthy Extra A and B options..I'm a big fan of quark and like to mix it with some pasta, does anyone know if I can use this as my HeA and have a fat free yogurt for my pudding as well?

Thanks!

B x

Becky96 · 22/03/2017 10:03

Hello everyone!
Long post alert
I've been doing slimming world for 7 weeks now, I've lost 1st 13lbs so far which I'm really happy with, I go with my mum and whose lost 1st 5lbs and she's dropped more than one dress size, her jeans are so baggy now and you can see a visable difference but with me there is no difference. My clothes fit the same, my body looks the same but I wonder if it's because I have so much to loose it won't show straight away.
Another thing is snacking, when I'm at home the only thing I want is chocolate and "bad food" I will go way over my syn limit for the day but when I'm at work I'm so good, low syns ect and I just don't know what to do I'm feeling really down about both of these things. 😞Any help would be appreciated

OwlinaTree · 22/03/2017 10:49

Well done becky on your loss so far. The snacking at home is tricky to tackle as it's probably habit and it's hard to break. Could you try not buying chocolate/sweet foods? Alternatively could you make yourself a little syn bag with a day's worth of syns in it? You would have to plan food for each day and then work out what was left. Then have a little box/bag with a freddo (5), a bag of popcorn (round 5), a hifi (3) etc in it. Put all together it always looks like a lot and you could also add fruits?

Another idea is to try a hobby which uses your hands so you are less able to eat. I usually knit in the evenings in front of the telly and this keeps me occupied and stops me thinking about snacking.

Good luck.

ALemonyPea · 22/03/2017 11:07

Welcome newbies.

Bcalvert1, quark is a free food, not an A choice, so you can have as much as you like, same with most fat free yoghurts. Your A choice should be milk or cheese from the list in your book. I don't drink milk, so have cheese every day. Your B choice is fibre, and it's things like bread, cereal, ryvita, nuts and some dried/stewed fruit. Again, read your book and get familiar with them.

It does take a while to get to grips with the diet, you'll get there though.

Becky, well done on your weight loss so far. Are you and your mum roughly the same weight and height? Everyone is different and arrives their weight different. I started SW with a friend, she weighed less than me, but now we weigh the same. She is a size 10 now, whereas I'm a 12/14 and she looks so much thinner despite being the same weight. Must admit I'm quite jealous and makes it harder for me. If you have a lot to lose, I had to lose 3 stone before people noticed, smaller clothes help people notice as well.

Regarding snacking, you can have 15 syns a day, don't be afraid to use them. Put a snack plate together with all your daily syns, and have that during the day. Make a plate for the night with free and synned foods. You don't have to limit what you eat if you're hungry, but you DNA change your habits. I don't eat after 7pm, which was hard at first, but had certainly helped.

Becky96 · 22/03/2017 11:19

I have a syn box that I made which is becoming empty so I might not refill it and see if that helps, with regards to doing something with my hands in the evening is a really good idea! I'll have to come up with something to do!

Becky96 · 22/03/2017 11:26

ALemonyPea My Mum and I are the same height but she weighs less than me so maybe that's why, just getting disheartening when I see a change in her and not myself. I think that maybe filling up during the day when I'm not at work is something I'm going to try so I don't snack on random things and save my syns for one or two treats in the evenings

catlover1987 · 22/03/2017 12:12

I haven't actually been brave enough to try quark yet - is it actually nice? Was thinking of making a pesto type sauce with it but worried it will taste really sour.

OrianaBanana · 22/03/2017 12:27

Sorry catlover it's quite horrible. Mind you it can be ok combined with things, e.g. Smoked mackerel or salmon pate with it isn't too bad.

catlover1987 · 22/03/2017 12:35

Thanks oriana. I thought as much! I will give it a go but not hopeful!

Shamoffour · 22/03/2017 12:43

Welcome all the newbies
Well done to all the losers

Hi maygirl nice to see you back I remember you, I used to be buttwing.
Welcome back PA.

My first weigh in after rejoining today.
I lost 6lbs!!!!!

ALemonyPea · 22/03/2017 12:58

Awesome Sham!

Quark is awful by itself, but very versatile used in recipes. Great in quiche.

OP posts:
BasinHaircut · 22/03/2017 13:51

I use quark in pasta with pesto, or whip it up with eggs for a SW quiche. It is a little sour but I don't mind that. Wouldn't eat it on its own yet and haven't tried sweetening it which is popular.

BasinHaircut · 22/03/2017 13:52

Thanks owlina will check that book out next week at group.

emwithme · 22/03/2017 13:55

I love using quark (with a little mustard powder mixed in) on burgers or as the "moisture" in tuna pasta (instead of mayo or hummus)

alibongo5 · 22/03/2017 14:08

Sorry I've been AWOL recently. Like PA I found that the week before last I pigged out and lost 2lb and this week I'd been (relatively) good and gained 1lb! Bit pissed off if I'm honest as I only needed to lose 2 to get to target. Oh well now it's 3!

And my consultant pissed me off again as once again when she got to me, she read out my total loss so far and then went straight on to "and what do you hope for for next week" without discussing my gain or if I needed help. AGAIN! So I said well, as I put on this week I really need to think about why that was and took it on myself to discuss how my week had gone. Bah! Then she said Oh you do tend to go up and down. No, I said. I have only gained twice before. Once at Christmas and once on holiday. GRR!

On my way out I mentioned to one of the other regulars that I think the consultant dislikes me. She said she felt the same about her and said "she definitely has favourites, that's why she's losing clients.

Will stick with it for the moment but may look at an alternative class.

BasinHaircut · 22/03/2017 15:10

I'm losing interest in group TBH ali, it's been really quiet lately and v boring. Although hopefully that will help me get to target quicker as I made a deal with myself that I'd go until I was at target.

Which reminds me I want to speak to my consultant about target as I'm not sure if I have one.

alibongo5 · 22/03/2017 16:18

I don't even know what happens when you get to target tbh - I know you get to go for free as long as you stay within 3lb +/- but don't know how often you have to go or what you're allowed to eat once you get there. Someone at group said the website says you only have to go once in two months but the consultant had told her that she had to go once every three weeks!

How are you doing basin? You were about the same as me weren't you - is the end in sight?

Groovee · 22/03/2017 16:19

Frouby, would it be worth going back to basics?

PositiveAttitude · 22/03/2017 16:38

Well done to the losers!

Em I did both of the tax modules last year (business and personal), so if....and that is a big IF I have passed last weeks exam (my calculator broke on my way into the exam which is the worst possible thing EVERR!!!) then I am done! But I will keep going to college and do the other 2 optional modules just for my own benefit really. It will be quite nice to know the pressure is off. I am not sure what one we are starting tonight - might be the auditing one, but I wil find out in 30 minutes Grin. I am needing to make a decision about my next step with this. What are you doing after yours?

00100001 · 22/03/2017 16:53

becky

This is gonna sound harsh - but it's not.
If yiu feel you're not losing weight "quickly" enough, you need to be truly honest about what you're eating.

syns
Change your mindset slightly. Think of 15 syns as a limit, not a target. Try resetting your syns mentally to 10 a day. That way if you go over accidentally/without realising, you have some leeway and you won't be over consuming, this may help you stay within the 105 weekly allowance

free food
It's easy to over consume free foods, because of the wording "free". It's easy to go "Oh I'll have another xxx, it's free" these calories add up.
Make sure you're listening to your body, are you hungry? or just bored? Have very low cal snacks to hand (veg sticks, fish sticks etc)

break habits
I know that I had a bad habit, of getting in from work and heading straight to the fridge for a snack. I wasn't hungry, it was just routine.
I made a conscious effort f making my routine to be feed the cats, go upstairs, get changed and have a cup of tea in the dining room whilst checking post/catching up on correspondence etc. This meant it got to about 5.45-6pm, and then it was time to start making dinner, and stopped that snack!

I would suggest going back to basics, keep a food diary for a week :)
