A brand new thread for 2016.....:)

For old and new members alike....please join in and post food plans, meal ideas, how you use syns, weight losses and gains, how you feel.

I started exactly a year ago on 4 January 2015.
I weighed 14st 3lbs and was a size 16. Bloated and uncomfortable, I was mortified when I saw the scales.
In week 1, I lost 9lbs which has motivated me ever since.
I currently weigh 11st 3.5lbs and just missed my 3 stone certificate at Xmas. Put on 2lbs last week and not really expecting a loss this week but I want to get to 11 stone and then re set my target to 10 stone 7lbs.

I have gone down to a comfortable size 12 and even wore a size 10 Fat Face dress yesterday.

So, let's do this.

I feel quite excited. SW has definitely changed my life......:)

So, 1.5lbs on for me which is a 3.5lbs total gain over Xmas which is fine.

Am back on it. Had a good day and the SW burgers are fabulous!!

163 people went through the weigh in tonight......it was so busy!!

I don't eat meat...I don't find it bland, boring or repetetive ...

For what it's worth I do quite like the veggie deluxe book, but mostly I look at the free foods as a list of ingredients and make whatever I fancy at the time.

I've been off plan until Monday there and I'm hugely busy this week, so I don't have a full weeks worth...but yesterday I made lentil soup, today I had quorn spaghetti Bolognese and I haven't decided yet for tomorrow and probably won't until about half 3 tomorrow when I see how much work I have left, lol.

My go to meals are a bit samey in that I do tend to do soup, Bolognese, curries and chilli fairly often, but that's because I can just whack stuff in a pan and it's quick.

What do you like to eat if you're not doing SW? That's the easiest way to find recipes.

calzone · 06/01/2016 22:55

Being vegetarian should not be a problem......there are lots of recipes out there.....just need tweaking for SW.

I'm making butternut squash and red lentil curry for tomorrow night.

Hi all, going to my first sw meeting on Saturday and quite excited/nervous. I'm bf but have heard good things about the bf plan so hopefully will be able to shift some baby weight. What happens at the meetings? I'm taking ds (6 weeks) with me in case he needs feeding but would like to know roughly how long the meeting lasts for.

tabulahrasa · 06/01/2016 23:17

annatha - if it's a 9.30 group (Saturdays usually are)...

You go in, someone should greet you, you sit in a seperate area and at 9.30 existing members will weigh in while the consultant gives you a run through of how it works.

Then at 10, you'll be moved to the main seating area and the consultant will tell you company news, hand out awards and possibly spend a couple of minutes talking about something relevant (depends on when in the year it is/what's going on/other stuff) then they'll check in with existing members (that bit involves lots of clapping) and talk to them about food ideas, recipes or any particular issues they're having. If it's a busy group it'll finish at 11 and you'll pay then and be weighed by the consultant.

Lost 0.5 pounds, my standard amount it seems, hoped for more as been back on plan and gained last week. Out tomorrow night with DH wine tasting, one of his Xmas pressies. Plan to eat free foods all day until then. Made egg and veg tortilla and veg soup in readyness .

Pisghetti · 06/01/2016 23:47

I'm vegetarian and haven't struggled at all in terms of variety. I'd also recommend the veggie deluxe book but I find it's pretty straightforward to SWify recipes I had anyway or vegify SW recipes with meat e.g. Diet coke quorn.

annatha · 07/01/2016 00:13

Thanks tabulahrasa sounds good.

christyO2990 · 07/01/2016 00:18

Wow thanks for all the comments, reading them has made me super excited to start now. I'll definitely look into getting the veggi deluxe book. I already vegify nomal meat recipes so it's good to hear I can do the same with SW recipes.

tabulahrasa · 07/01/2016 00:27

christy - the beauty of SW is that while there are loads of recipes...it's totally adaptable to suit you, so if your own cooking is pretty healthy anyway you can usually adapt things you like into being free.

My issue was never really what I cooked, it was what I had when I didn't actually cook, lol, so I find I my meals are often things I've always made with a couple of different ingredients in them.

funnyperson · 07/01/2016 04:14

I need to get on plan but the trial menus all seem a lot more than I eat already. The last time I went on a recommended diet I gained weight so I am feeling very tentative. I am vegetarian and gluten free and am ill a lot.
Will change to the low calorie at spray though!
My weak spots are

  1. low fat yoghurt- I hate it and love normal plain yoghurt with my food
  2. brie- I need some at least once a week!
  3. tablets: I am on loads and they are all sugar or lactose coated. I checked with pharmacy and there are no non sugar coated options
wannabestressfree · 07/01/2016 04:26

I am joining Wednesday as weigh a lot and need urgent surgery :( am still on steroids which won't help but need to get my eating back on track....

QueenofLouisiana · 07/01/2016 06:19

First weigh in yesterday. Lost 1.5 kg (3.3lb??) so I'm quite pleased with that- especially as I made a few mistakes and went over syns.

Starting yoga class tonight to get a bit of gentle exercise in.

tabulahrasa · 07/01/2016 06:54

funnyperson - the trial menus are just suggestions, you follow the rules of the plan to suit your appetite.

Syn the yoghurt and Brie if you want them.

Prescribed medication is always free.

BasinHaircut · 07/01/2016 07:50

I had a naan bread Shock

But back on it again today with a vengeance.

Naan breads are about 20 syns right? Plus 12.5ish for my biriyani. So if I only have 5 syns a day for the rest of the week I should be ok?

Haven't really had any syns so far this week apart from extra skimmed milk for tea

Howlongtillbedtime · 07/01/2016 07:57

Morning all , day four here and I couldn't resist weighing this morning . four pounds off which I am delighted about . I love the first week or so when it comes off nicely . will be needed more of a kick once things slow down .

I am going to have weetabix for breakfast , omelette for lunch and stir fry for dinner . snacks of satsumas and a possible couple of syns saved for a glass of something later as I have a friend popping round .

MostGhostsAreMad · 07/01/2016 07:59

Good morning, all!

I've really enjoyed reading through the thread - may I join you all, please? I'm an online member and I've lost 3 stones so far - only 11 lbs off target now! It's been a fairly slow but steady process and I'm hoping that I'll be able to maintain my weight once I get to my target. I bought a few more SW recipe books the other day and I'm looking forward to trying some out (the Fakeaway book looks particularly tempting!)

Pisghetti · 07/01/2016 08:34

That's excellent progress Ghost!

Today for me is:
B - overnight oats (only I forgot to make them last night so I'm sat here starving wondering how long they need!) HeB
S - vanilla fat free yogurt, kiwi
L - tomato soup with lentils, kiwi
Weigh in
D - quorn gammon, mushroom beetroot and tomatoes, cheesy mash (HeA)

Can't wait for the Christmas chocolates to be gone. I'm picking my way through Syns every evening. I am keeping it to 1 or 2 each time though....

MostGhostsAreMad · 07/01/2016 08:44

Thanks, Pisghetti!

Overnight oats are great, aren't they? Have you tried the baked oats recipe?

Hope the weigh-in goes well today Flowers

idsisatwat · 07/01/2016 08:50

That's fantastic progress ghost

I put on 3.5lbs over Christmas, so am trying to get back on it properly now.

B - scrambled egg, turkey rashers, baked beans & mushrooms
S - tangerine
L - mugshot & fruit
S - strawberries
D - no idea yet!!

And I need to stay away from the Christmas stuff that's left in the house.

MostGhostsAreMad · 07/01/2016 08:59

Thanks, idsis! Your breakfast sounds delicious - I'm off to Tesco so I'll get some of those turkey rashers, I think!

DesertIslandPenguin · 07/01/2016 09:37

I'm just off to the shops for more of the apple strudel mullerlights before they disappear! (Being replaced by peanut & caramel ones, can't imagine how peanuts would taste in a yoghurt.)

I made a bircher style overnight oats with loads of cinnamon, almond extract, a grated apple and a chopped one, too, and 4.5 syns (12g) of pecan nuts mixed in. Absolutely gorgeous!!

knowler · 07/01/2016 09:58

Morning all, great to hear of successes, thanks ghost!! Feeling a bit low today because of work (am in wrong job but no idea what else to do) so not v motivated. No breakfast but will have huge salad (2 syns max for dressing) for lunch plus fruit. Dinner yet to be decided :(

Sorry for moany post - only plus side is that before sw I would have eaten more when being a bit down whereas today I've lost my appetite!! Always a silver lining :)

cowboylover · 07/01/2016 11:41

Thanks for the link for the hash browns! Will try them out.

I'm sitting down with my planner now and working out what meals I fancy next week and writing my food shopping list for tomorrow. I weigh in later this evening and a little nervous to be honest, will check in later!
