Starting SW again in the new year (and sticking to it!)....anyone else?

lorneylou · 29/12/2014 12:53

I first started SW in 2013, I loved it from the start. Consultant was fab, loved learning to cook new things, food was great and I wasn't hungry!

By October 2013, I'd lost almost 3 stone, felt brilliant, looked great, was very proud of myself.

By this time, I was finding it difficult to get to meetings, they were at an odd time and quite a drive away so I slipped a bit. Then it all went wrong when we went on holiday at the end of October, once in a lifetime kind of thing and I told myself I wouldn't worry about SW while we were away, I would enjoy myself. Well......I did, and I haven't been able to get back on track since.

So a year later I have gained most of the weight back (haven't weighed myself, too scared but fitting back into my stretchy size 16 jeans) and I feel like crap! Tired, spotty and I just can't be arsed!

I felt great from having a much better diet and although it took me a while to realise it!

So....I have found a much closer group that starts at 9.30 on a Tuesday morning, I will be able to get there after I drop DD off to pre-school and stay till the end of the meeting.

I have eaten so much crap at Christmas I am actually craving something healthy and looking forward to something green!

The hurdles for me....

Cost - We are a very low income and I will struggle to afford the meetings every week, but I am willing to give up whatever to ensure I stay motivated. We have had an especially crappy diet in recent months due to money shortages (eating the cheapest of the cheap) so shopping will cost more. I will work this out somehow

New group - I'm shy and not looking forward to a new group but will just have to bite the bullet...I did it before and I'll do it again! I also loved my old consultant and the group was a laugh, hope this one is as nice.

Portion control - I'm greedy, and that's it really. I need to get a grip.

Unsupportive DH - Was talking this through with him and he said he was so glad when I stopped SW, the food was bland, tasteless etc etc. I generally cook the same thing for all of us. Left to his own devices, he would live on burgers and anything that comes from Iceland. If it's not frozen and doesn't have sauce then its not food Hmm

Time - I did soooo much cooking when I was doing SW and it was hard to fit it in. I need to be less lazy, batch cook and freeze etc etc

On the upside...DD will eat pretty much everything and my mum and nan are very supportive.

It's my birthday in June and I want to go somewhere nice, looking nice and feeling great...not like this year!

Tuesday 6th January will be the start of me feeling better!!!!! Grin

Aw cookie don't worry!
It won't make a difference tonight. I swear it's just the feeling of being good for soooooooooo long, a whole week...and wanting a treat for getting that far. I have found myself shovelling in loads of junk before weigh-ins (knowing a have a week to undo it) but it just gives me more work really. I hope you get a nice result tonight to give you a bit of a boost for the next week.

Sugar - big congratulations!
I hope you enjoy every single bite! If Annie is coming, I'm inviting myself too! Grin No snow here and I would happily drive miles for a proper curry!!
Just out of curiosity, what will be melting ontop of your chocolate brownie?? I find clotted cream does the trick!

Annie - Thankyou Thankyou! Shopping on saturday morning so shall be getting all the bits! I'm really looking forward to this, it better be good! Have you tried it?

On a more boring note, I had a lovely big plate of spag bol tonight (dd's favourite so had to be done). Actually, I think it's the nicest thing I have eaten in a fortnight! Sauce was lovely and rich, was simmered for ages and it was steaming hot!

Thanks lorney. Just home and lost 4.5lbs :)

thatstoast · 29/01/2015 21:54

Yes star week. I think it's called that to spare the blushes of men but there's only one in the class. Although I did go to school with him so don't really want to let him know i'm having my period.

I think this later class is better for me so will try and stick with it.

Well done everyone on your losses!

annielostit · 30/01/2015 07:04

Lorney, I haven't tried the dopiaza as oh doesn't like lots of onions, and dopiaza is double onions.
Well done cookie on your 4.5, good effort. Forget the biscuits. Day 1.
I do like a long simmered pasta sauce seems creamy & rich, leaves that feeling on your lips.
Well have to get on make plans for the nights dinner. No snow here so can get out.x

Midori1999 · 30/01/2015 07:52

Well done on your losses everyone. Sorry not to commnent individually, but I've not been on the thread for a whole and it's hard to go back and forth on the phone. Blush

I lost a pound on weds. I'm fairly pleased, it was my period and I'm on steroids, so maybe had a lot of fluid retention. I'm hoping I can get 6lb off this week. Ive got that off before in a week a few times, but I was breastfeeding then and not on steroids, so we'll see... Grin

I've made the Dopiaza from the fakeaway book, which is slightly different to the one Annie posted, but it was very nice.

annielostit · 30/01/2015 17:06

Well-done on the lb midori, its not fun when you've got meds to take & star week**.
Is the fakeaway recipe much different. My sw curry book is about 3 years old now. Calling them Fakeaways is the 'thing now'. Sells another book though.

Just made katsu curry from website, crumbed some chicken and made fried rice. BBQ ribs doing slow in oven. Asian fakeaway dinner tonight.
Out for oh birthday tomorrow, Millar & carter, its a steak place but so tempting with the side dishes. Lobster thermidor, four mushroom sauce and big fat garlic ciabatta. Oh dear please resist.Grin and really nice wine.
Will have to eat free food only before then.
All have a good one.xx

lorneylou · 31/01/2015 18:52

Ohh brilliant losses everyone!

I hope everyone is coping with the weekend ok.

Annie I have just looked up Millar & Carter, I'd never heard of it before. Looks gorgeous! IMO, there's not really any point in thinking about SW if you are going there, too many lovely things! I hope you really enjoy it! Grin

So my plans for a lovely dopiaza have gone out the window...DH says too many onions Hmm so I had a look online and found a nice curry thread here
www.minimins.com/slimming-world-recipes/308253-catalogue-indian-recipes-bhuna-jalfrezi-balti-madras-korma-many-more.html

I'm doing Jalfrezi and Bombay potatoes tonight, when DD finally goes to bed! I have some onion bajis and samosas in the freezer too so might treat myself to one of each and just be extra good till Wednesday.

Hi everyone if anyone likes pork I have done the pulled pork receipe today !!!! Yum

sugarsinner · 01/02/2015 20:00

Welldone everyone on your losses :) The dopiaza recipe looks tempting, I shall definitely try it!
Curry night was great but it's amazing how quickly I felt full! Obviously not used to the fattening oils anymore.
Big fat brownie was a huge disappointment! :( I wanted rich and sickly but instead got sweet and dry. Should have made my own but knew I'd never stop at one! My rocky road hifi and options hot chocolate tonight tasted much nicer! Everything 'bad' tastes so much sweeter than it used to before SW. Anyone else thought the same? Goodluck with weigh ins this week.

annielostit · 02/02/2015 21:18

Well Monday again, how was the weekend for everyone.
Anybody weigh today with good results?
Oh birthday passed in a blur of nice food and gallons of wine. Grin I'm not looking for anything this week. Grumpy girl week turned up again as well.
My plan is to get 2lb a month now until June.
Glad you enjoyed your curry sugar, shame about the brownies. Its a syn waste don't you think.
All have a good week. See you soon.Smile

laughalot · 02/02/2015 22:03

Hi everyone weigh in today and lost 3lb so happy with that. I love brownies but my version would prob be a weeks worth of syns in one day.

Anyway keep going everyone Grin.

Jamrollypolly · 02/02/2015 23:36

I gained 1 1/2lb last week but it was expected. I think I was just really motivated the first 2 weeks lost half a stone, then gained last week when I went into self destruct mode. There were too many high syn treats in the house as we had guests and a party. Once I started I couldn't stop myself and felt I had to finish the whole pack of mini chocolate covered Swiss rolls and lg pack of crisps plus other things. I was like a human food hoover! I think I've learnt that I shouldn't buy large packs of crisps and tubs of treats, with individual packs I know how many syns are in each pack and stop at 1, with lg packs I keep going until it's finished (no self control!). It was great to go to go to group and refocus. I'm trying 3 days of sp this week, I feel bloated though as I'm due my grumpy girl week.

Can anyone recommend a weighing scale (similar results to group), I bought a salter body analyser but it was useless and gave random results.

Midori1999 · 03/02/2015 13:52

Annie, the Dopiaza in the fakeaway book is:

2tbsp medium curry powder
1tbsp garam masala
2 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tsp ground cumin
2 large onions, finely chopped
4 crushed garlic cloves
200ml of stock
400g can chopped tomatoes
Salt and pepper
500g of king prawns
Chopped fresh coriander to garnish

Obviously you could use chicken instead of prawns.

How was your meal out at Millar and Carter?

Laughalot, well done on your 3lbs! Fantastic! I have made the Paul Hollywood brownies before, minus the cranberries and I'm sure they worked out 8 syns each and they are lush!

I weigh in tomorrow. I had hoped for 6lb off Grin to get my stone in 4 weeks. However, although I think I've been good, I've not been using my syns much but probably have as I've been nibbling on things all week like a flapjack yesterday. I'm hoping for 2-3lb still though.

annielostit · 03/02/2015 17:21

Good losses going on well done everyone!!!
Thanks for the curry recipe, I'll look at that for the weekend.
My Millar & carter was yummy. I had steak but gave the chips to ds, had prawns & lobster side plus everyones lettuce wedge. I only ate 1 slice garlic bread but we had 2 bottles of wine.Grin my oh is only 53 once.
Weigh day is tomorrow so I'll let you know.
We've friends coming Friday and going to Wales / England rugby. Will be out all day, lots of Wine again! I must be a good girl till then. Life is really getting in the way. Have to do some body magic for a day or 2.

annielostit · 03/02/2015 17:24

Quick question.
What's everyone's breakfast & lunch favourites?x

laughalot · 04/02/2015 13:16

Hi Annie I like the overnight oats for brekkie and a jacket potato for lunch yum yum :)

thatstoast · 04/02/2015 21:54

When I'm in work I alternate between a jacket potato and sushi for lunch. My colleagues think I'm weird, I'm sure.

I lost 4 and a half pounds this week though so I'm really pleased with that.

Midori1999 · 04/02/2015 22:26

Steak, prawns and lobster sounds delicious Annie! I tend to have a 'fry up', omelette or fried egg sandwich for breakfast. Lunch tends to be soup, a sandwich with veg sticks, salad or some left over dinner from the previous night.

Thatstoast, 4 1/2lb is brilliant! Well done!

I lost 3lb this week and got slimmer of the week. That's 11lb off in four weeks, so I'm thrilled!

Rivercam · 04/02/2015 23:04

11lb in four weeks is brilliant! I managed 4lb! However, I quite pleased with that. In the past, I have only averaged half a pound a week. My trousers have lost that post-christmas tight feeling.

Someone told me recently that if you miss a week, you still have to pay. No one mentioned that to e when I joined.

Midori1999 · 04/02/2015 23:17

Thanks Rivercam. I've got quite a bit to lose, 5-6 stone I think. I've also gained 3 stone in 5 months due to meds and needing a very high calorie diet, so I suppose it's natural it would come off quickly at first.

It's true that you have to pay for missed weeks, which is to try and encourage you to go each week I suppose. You can attend any SW group though, not just your regular one, if you're away or can't make your usual day, for example.

annielostit · 05/02/2015 10:49

Wow, these losses are great.
Well done on SOTW.
The steak lobster combo was good midori, were taking friends there this week but thinking about fish instead. I do think you should eat steak as its a steak place, will see.
Nothing wrong with jacket potato, sushi isn't my favourite thing though. I'm getting stuck what to have at lunch.made fishcake & salad yesterday. Thinking beans & toast as having big dinner later. Its so easy to grab a sausage roll and some crisps.. Remind me again what's a sausage roll taste likeGrin.
Laugh- do the overnight oats fill you up or do you add extra fruit? I don't last well on cereal things, I have eggs or bacon or both.
Well off for a fruit break now.x

MickeyMixer · 05/02/2015 12:05

People are doing so well - great losses and the recipe ideas are fab! I've lost another four this week so I am well chuffed with that.

annielostit · 05/02/2015 15:41

Good effort mickey. My efforts were white I put on half!!

laughalot · 05/02/2015 21:58

Some fab losses well done guys :)

Annie I add extra fruit yum yum.

CookieMonster101 · 06/02/2015 06:38

Well done everyone!

I need some moral support. Had a stressful week at work and sabotaged my own weight loss. I'm so good every day till I get home and then I start eating eating eating.

So I gained 3 lbs this week Blush Back on the plan today!
