Starting SW again in the new year (and sticking to it!)....anyone else?

lorneylou · 29/12/2014 12:53

I first started SW in 2013, I loved it from the start. Consultant was fab, loved learning to cook new things, food was great and I wasn't hungry!

By October 2013, I'd lost almost 3 stone, felt brilliant, looked great, was very proud of myself.

By this time, I was finding it difficult to get to meetings, they were at an odd time and quite a drive away so I slipped a bit. Then it all went wrong when we went on holiday at the end of October, once in a lifetime kind of thing and I told myself I wouldn't worry about SW while we were away, I would enjoy myself. Well......I did, and I haven't been able to get back on track since.

So a year later I have gained most of the weight back (haven't weighed myself, too scared but fitting back into my stretchy size 16 jeans) and I feel like crap! Tired, spotty and I just can't be arsed!

I felt great from having a much better diet and although it took me a while to realise it!

So....I have found a much closer group that starts at 9.30 on a Tuesday morning, I will be able to get there after I drop DD off to pre-school and stay till the end of the meeting.

I have eaten so much crap at Christmas I am actually craving something healthy and looking forward to something green!

The hurdles for me....

Cost - We are a very low income and I will struggle to afford the meetings every week, but I am willing to give up whatever to ensure I stay motivated. We have had an especially crappy diet in recent months due to money shortages (eating the cheapest of the cheap) so shopping will cost more. I will work this out somehow

New group - I'm shy and not looking forward to a new group but will just have to bite the bullet...I did it before and I'll do it again! I also loved my old consultant and the group was a laugh, hope this one is as nice.

Portion control - I'm greedy, and that's it really. I need to get a grip.

Unsupportive DH - Was talking this through with him and he said he was so glad when I stopped SW, the food was bland, tasteless etc etc. I generally cook the same thing for all of us. Left to his own devices, he would live on burgers and anything that comes from Iceland. If it's not frozen and doesn't have sauce then its not food Hmm

Time - I did soooo much cooking when I was doing SW and it was hard to fit it in. I need to be less lazy, batch cook and freeze etc etc

On the upside...DD will eat pretty much everything and my mum and nan are very supportive.

It's my birthday in June and I want to go somewhere nice, looking nice and feeling great...not like this year!

Tuesday 6th January will be the start of me feeling better!!!!! Grin

Lorneylou- really liked the fat pictures. It helped me explain it to my oh. He's been weigh training and is putting on lbs but couldn't understand what I was saying. If it ain't in his job or on the sports page he doesn't listen.

lorneylou · 15/01/2015 13:07

My DH is just the same annie, frustrating isn't it? Hmm

Those pictures are a bit gross, I remember seeing 'fat' on TV ages ago and it really shocked me! Just think, I have about 30 of those stuck all over me that are 'extra'!

Might explain why I just had to lean back and tuck my belly into my jeans as I sat down! Blush

1/2 stone gone hooray

midori1999 · 15/01/2015 17:02

Well done MickeyMixer!

I lost 4lb, which Im pleased with really as although I usually lose more in my first week/if I've gained the week before, i did make good use off yo yes this week and probably went over them a bit.

Two ladies at our group lost 8lb! One in her first week and one doing the SP plan.

suzi2doo · 16/01/2015 10:04

Hi, I'm joining back up on Monday, I've done it twice before n lost 3 stone both times but also got pregnant both times ?? ! Avoiding the pregnancy this time round and determined to stick to it. I'm now at my heaviest ive ever been and I don't want to keep going. I've got around 7stone to loose so it's going to be a long journey but I'm not giving up! This is my last year in my twenties so going to make it count ?? I'm more of an oumpa lumps shape haha

sugarsinner · 16/01/2015 20:02

Welldone Micky and midori... fab losses!
Go for it suzi. I had my daughter 5 months ago after losing on sw before pregnancy and have quickly gotten bigger and bigger so know how you feel. I have got to do it
this time round.
Ive got 4stone to lose but thinking small steps and concentrating on the first stone.

lorneylou · 19/01/2015 13:56

Well done to you both, I'm sure you felt great when you got on the scale Grin

How is everyone else doing?

I had a bit of a blip at the weekend, went out for an unplanned lunch and it must have been the most SW unfriendly cafe ever! Not a salad in sight!!!!

I ended up just picking what I fancied, I figured I may as well enjoy it. I did have a small portion though, made sure I left a bit and it was actually really lovely!

Looking forward to first weigh in on Wednesday, nervous but excited about losing someting!

Rivercam · 19/01/2015 20:52

Lost 2lb last week, and nothing this week. I feel a bit despondent. I think I've stuck to the plan, except for a milk hot chocolate and a small portion of apple crumble.

lorneylou · 19/01/2015 21:08

Don't worry River....you will get there!
What did your consultant say?
Can you post a few days menu incase anyone can spot anything that might help?
Are you eating enough?

OP posts:
Rivercam · 19/01/2015 21:55

A typical day for me is:
Breakfast - muesli (60g approx - healthy a + 4 sins)

Lunch - jacket potato and salad, pasta and salad, beans or eggs on toast

Evening - gammon, potato and veg, stir fry, pasta and quorn meatballs

Apples, oranges, raw carrots,

Drink - water or herbal tea

Even though free foods include unlimited pasta, potato, etc, I try to limit them as I can't quite see how unlimited pasta equals weight loss.

I admit, I did probably eat a few too many oven chips ( sainsbury diet ones), had a milky hot chocolate on Saturday, and had roast dinner last night ( with small portion of Apple crumble). I did cook the roast potatoes in the low fat spray. However, overall, I didn't feel I ate badly and ate healthily.

Iggity · 19/01/2015 22:14

Evening everyone. 1.5 lbs off for me this week. Hoped it would be more after 6 days of SP but it is what it is. Didn't get much exercise done this week so I think that hasn't helped. Anyway, another week ahead of me. No more SP for me for a while. Have dinner out this week at a steak place so looking forward to that. Really going to try and exercise every day. I got my 1/2 stone award tonight and have lost 8 lbs in total since I started again on 29 December so that's 3 weeks of it. If I keep losing 1.5 pounds for the next few weeks, that will be great. Our leader is leaving however so will be interesting to see who takes over. I have 13.5 pounds until I get to target and prior to starting new job on 9 March! Hoping to make it:)

Well done everyone on the losses so far.

Rivercam, I know how you feel. I've lost nothing before and I cried! I had been on plan and seemed so unfair. Stick with it.

Has anyone watched the three Horizons programmes about choosing the right diet. They were really interesting and recommend having a look. The third one is the best.

Rivercam · 19/01/2015 22:32

Iggity - thanks for the encouragement

lorneylou · 20/01/2015 16:12

River - It looks like you are well within syn limits etc, even with the few extras added on.
Maybe your weightloss is just taking a while to catch up! I have witnessed on a few occasions people who have been really strict all week and lost nothing, maybe even two weeks in a row and then they suddenly drop maybe 4 or 5 pounds in one week.
Did your consultant not give you any advice? I would recommend you talk to him/her of you are not getting the results you expect. Also, keep a food log with everything in in...drinks, bites here and there etc and they should be able to go through it with you and suggest where you can tweak it to get better results.

I know it's really frustrating but please don't give up just yet, you will find a way that works for you. I think that although EE works...everyone has to adjust it a bit for themselves. I know some people who are constantly eating loads of potatoes, mountains of pasta and drinking all their syns at the weekend and are still losing 2lb a week....there is no way that would work for me!
I really hope you get better results next week! Smile

OP posts:
Rivercam · 20/01/2015 17:46

Lorn - thanks for your reply. It was really busy and i left whilst people was still weighing in... . I've. I wimped out!

lorneylou · 21/01/2015 13:03

So just had my first weigh in this morning....and guess what, I lost nothing!!! A big fat 0!!
I have been really good this week, I don't think I've had over 5 syns a day, apart from Saturday lunch.
Perhaps I could have eaten a bit more (I have been hungry), drunk more and I know on some days I didn't manage to get both HEX A& B in.
Spoke to my constultant who is stumped too, so I have to do a food dairy for next the next week!
With it being my first week, I thought I would have my biggest loss!

Rivercam....you are not alone! Sad

Hello,

I am considering joining slimming world. I have looked into it in the past but never really stuck to it/anything to be honest. I am unfit and unhealthy and supposed to get married next summer :( I don't want to look like I do now.

Working in a school I am worried to meet any parents there-can;t imagine anything worse. Also the job is often so stressful that I struggle to stick to anything as I am tired/lazy.

Can anyone give me a kick up the bum and reassure me? I could go tomorrow evening...

annielostit · 21/01/2015 18:53

Hi cookie monster. You have to want to do this for yourself and be in the right place. If your unhappy in your size only you can change it.
Don't think about the people you might or not meet, they are there for the same reason as you.
How do you want to look at you wedding? Not how you do now. Slimming world can help you if you want to change.
Tomorrow evening is the first day of the rest of your life. Take your time with the plan, make the changes to be healthy.
Read the book and plan best you can, babysteps.

lorneylou · 21/01/2015 19:00

Hi Cookie,

I would advise you to give it a go! Compared to other diets, I have found that it is really easy to stick to. Most things don't have to be weighed or measured out and you can eat anything you want really, the trick is just learning which things to limit a little bit.

Most people find that the first time they start SW, they get a great weightloss in the first few weeks....which is really encouraging and spurs you on!

As for meeting other people there, don't worry at all!! This has been my second week at a new group and I've already met about 10 people that I know from out and about. No-one has been judgemental at all, infact they have all said 'Ohhhh I didn't know you come to SW!! How are you doing? How are you finding it? What recipies are you trying this week etc etc'

In fact, I had an appointment with a nurse at the local doctors surgery last Thursday and I had to be weighed. I was a bit embarassed as I've put on a stone since the last time I was weighed there and I had just been back to SW on Wednesday so I knew what the scales would say.
As soon as I stepped on the scales I said 'I know I've put on weight but I am planning to lose it, infact just rejoined SW yesterday'.
At that point the nurse told me she was starting that night for the first time and was asking me all the details. Then she went off to get two other colleagues who were starting with her and we had a good old natter for 5 mins while she was sorting out my medication!

There seems to be a great amout of support between SW members and any group I have ever been too has been a good laugh. I normally have a coffee while everyone is being weighed Grin

The only thing you have to lose really is the joining fee, which isn't that much and I do think you will like it!

CookieMonster101 · 21/01/2015 20:16

Ok thanks to both of you. I will give it a go tomorrow! I think I need the group as I have no will power when by myself. Also someone at work is doing it and that might mean I have someone to chat about it in real life, keeping me on track.

annielostit · 21/01/2015 20:38

Slight side track, Did anyone watch the right diet for you on bbc2 last week. If you got time have a look on catch up. It explains
Will power emotional eating why we can't stop eating and why weight loss happens or slows.
I know its going to take 6 months to drop my stone but it can come off.
We are real here cookie and all need emotional support. Just remember every lb off is ok any lbs on is a blip.x

laughalot · 21/01/2015 21:33

Hi could I join please ? I started my slimming world journey in Jan 2013 weighing in at 14st 5 by the June I was down to 11 13 and then I went off track a bit. Anyway back on it weighed in 2 weeks ago at 12st 9 lost 2lb in my first week and maintained in my 2nd week think this was down to my period. I do not attend a class I do it myself and weigh every Monday at Boots. The pictures if the links work correct are my before and after pictures they are always my focus.

Starting SW again in the new year (and sticking to it!)....anyone else?

Iggity · 21/01/2015 22:59

Laughalot, wow, what a difference. You look fantastic.

Annie, I watched the programmes. Found them really interesting and might watch them again. I hope they do a follow up programme. There is someone on mumsnet who was involved in the programme.

Cookie, I would recommend giving it a go. It doesn't feel like a diet and going to group is good. I know when I am trying to lose weight, it's really the only thing I want to talk about and at group, you are around like minded people. Listening to their stories is inspiring.

Lorney, sorry to hear about your weigh in. Your body might be reacting to less food and trying to cling onto the weight but it will have to let go! Hope next week is better. So annoying when you've tried really hard all week.

I had an SP today. It wasnt really planned but fancied 2 slices of toast for brekkie so had that with some cheese and an apple.
Chicken salad for lunch and pears for snacking.
Just made the SW chill concarne. Had a lot in it. I ate it with broccoli but probably could have done without it. No syns today as out tomorrow night!

Can't believe it's nearly Thursday already. I need some tips from you all on how to survive the weekend. I am so good during the week and just seem to fall apart at the weekend. I think the lack of structure from not being at work doesn't help and Sunday evenings are the worst! Not what I need day before my weigh in.

Midori1999 · 22/01/2015 10:04

Well done iggity!

Lorneylou, do get your food diary checked, but I'm sure it will show on the scales next week. My friend gained a pound in her first week, then lost 6 the next!

Rivercam, do keep at it, it would be unusual not to lose two weeks in a row.

Laughalot, you look fantastic in both pics, but what a difference in your before and after! I too lost 2 1/2 stone and have gained it all back and more due to illness/medication, but am now losing again. I recently met a friend of a friend who had never seen me slimmer and when she saw a photo she was gobsmacked, which makes me realise how different I looked.

I had my second weigh in last night since rejoining and lost another 3lb, so that's half a stone on two weeks. I admit I almost cried I was so pleased.

lorneylou · 22/01/2015 10:12

Wow!! Laughalot, what a tranformation!!! You look fab! Grin

Your pictures have just given me the bit of a push that I needed this morning after my crappy weigh in yesterday. You must have amazing willpower too to do this without going to group. You have done sooooo well!!

Iggity, well done on your SP day, I think I'm going to have to have a few SP days too if I want to shift some weight! At the moment, just trying to go alot easier on the carbs (no potatoes with roast dinner last night) and hoping that will make a bit of a difference this week.

I find that prepping my food for the weekend helps. We are always running about like mad on Saturday. We take DD to Ballet and nip home to change and have a snack, then we will go into town quickly and then home for lunch. Then off to do food shopping and maybe the park and then home for dinner. As you can see, theres very little time to prep and throwing together a sandwich and a bag of crips is soooo easy.
I will make some lunch for myself tonight so it will be sitting in the fridge and make something for my dinner aswell. DH and DD usually have something 'tasty' on a Saturday night, normally chips!
Sunday we normally go out for the day and I am always knackered by dinner time, I really don't want to cook! So I will have something in the slowcooker so I don't have much to do when I get home and don't have a choice of something else because it's already cooked.

Why do you have such trouble at the weekends, is it the lack of time or all the nice food that everyone else is having?
