Starting SW again in the new year (and sticking to it!)....anyone else?

lorneylou · 29/12/2014 12:53

I first started SW in 2013, I loved it from the start. Consultant was fab, loved learning to cook new things, food was great and I wasn't hungry!

By October 2013, I'd lost almost 3 stone, felt brilliant, looked great, was very proud of myself.

By this time, I was finding it difficult to get to meetings, they were at an odd time and quite a drive away so I slipped a bit. Then it all went wrong when we went on holiday at the end of October, once in a lifetime kind of thing and I told myself I wouldn't worry about SW while we were away, I would enjoy myself. Well......I did, and I haven't been able to get back on track since.

So a year later I have gained most of the weight back (haven't weighed myself, too scared but fitting back into my stretchy size 16 jeans) and I feel like crap! Tired, spotty and I just can't be arsed!

I felt great from having a much better diet and although it took me a while to realise it!

So....I have found a much closer group that starts at 9.30 on a Tuesday morning, I will be able to get there after I drop DD off to pre-school and stay till the end of the meeting.

I have eaten so much crap at Christmas I am actually craving something healthy and looking forward to something green!

The hurdles for me....

Cost - We are a very low income and I will struggle to afford the meetings every week, but I am willing to give up whatever to ensure I stay motivated. We have had an especially crappy diet in recent months due to money shortages (eating the cheapest of the cheap) so shopping will cost more. I will work this out somehow

New group - I'm shy and not looking forward to a new group but will just have to bite the bullet...I did it before and I'll do it again! I also loved my old consultant and the group was a laugh, hope this one is as nice.

Portion control - I'm greedy, and that's it really. I need to get a grip.

Unsupportive DH - Was talking this through with him and he said he was so glad when I stopped SW, the food was bland, tasteless etc etc. I generally cook the same thing for all of us. Left to his own devices, he would live on burgers and anything that comes from Iceland. If it's not frozen and doesn't have sauce then its not food Hmm

Time - I did soooo much cooking when I was doing SW and it was hard to fit it in. I need to be less lazy, batch cook and freeze etc etc

On the upside...DD will eat pretty much everything and my mum and nan are very supportive.

It's my birthday in June and I want to go somewhere nice, looking nice and feeling great...not like this year!

Tuesday 6th January will be the start of me feeling better!!!!! Grin

L....can baked beans, 2 wm bread
Fruit

D...was amazing!
Seabass baked in the oven, SW chips, mushy peas with vinegar and sliced onion.

It was gorgeous. Smile

crystal85 · 09/01/2015 20:17

Hi calzone
Your dinner sounds fab with normal peas lol

I'm sat looking at how well ppl are doing and worried im due to start back Tuesday morning not been for a year! And start step class again Sunday (although convinced my legs rubbing together will cause a fire lol) had gorjus boy 6 month ago and due to there error I carried him way to long for my size and back that I had to have emergency c section so will never get rid of my hip spread (pelvis has gone back to normal) and kangaroo pouch (more commonly know as naked muffin top) but I want a stone or so off to get rid of fat above belly button and get moving to get rid of thighs and bingo wings

midori1999 · 09/01/2015 20:57

Sounds like everyone is doing great. I am feeling highly motivated and I hope it continues. My day has been:

Breakfast: Linda macartney sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes, tinned spaghetti and fried eggs

Lunch: vegetable broth

Dinner: sweet and spicy Szechuan stir fry (2 syns for sugar in sauce as I hate using sweetener)

Snacked on a pear so far but will need to eat something before bed. Have a healthy B left (a was milk for coffees) so might have a fried egg sandwich or something.

calzone · 09/01/2015 21:53

Am amazed at how good the food has been so far.

Oooh I could eat mushy peas every day with vinegar and onion. Smile

Am a bit worried as going to a friend's house for HM curry tomorrow and have been so good all week.

I might eat before I go, eat rice and chicken there and save up syns. Take fruit for pud.

Squtternutbaush · 09/01/2015 21:55

B: 2 slices nimble toast, 2 poached eggs and grilled tomatoes

S: Kiwi

L: Chicken and rice broth

D: Homemade veg pakora, cucumber sticks and homemade pakora sauce

S: Chomp (oops)

And now I'm having a few drinks which will add use up the excess syns that I don't use through the week as I tend to stick to 5-10 per day.

Squtternutbaush · 09/01/2015 21:56

Oh that's 9 syns from today allowance btw :o

crystal85 · 10/01/2015 08:59

Calzone does your friend know your doing slimming world? She mite be willing to put chicken and veg in a small pan for you with no sauce so u don't feel left out x

calzone · 10/01/2015 23:28

Crystal.....it was fine.Smile

I had an egg salad sandwich before I left so I wasn't starving.

Served ourselves. Had very little and was offered fruit for pudding. Smile

Iggity · 10/01/2015 23:41

Got through Saturday!

B: little bit of low fat yoghurt with honey pre-parkrun
2nd B: 2 boiled eggs on 2 teeny slices of brown toast post parkrun
L: tuna, peppers, tomatoes with mixed grain, red rice, quinoa concoction
D: SW chips, chicken and pear

Exercise: parkrun and long fast walk with DH
Short on veg and fruit so in serious need of food shopping tomorrow!
Hope everyone is having a good weekend. Am feeling really impatient at the moment. Because this is going quite well, I expect the weight to just drop off. It took a while to put it on so same to take it off again.

Pregnantagain7 · 11/01/2015 20:32

Hi all may I join you?

I've had my fourth dc 12 weeks ago and I joined sw 8 weeks ago so far I've lost a stone and four pounds and have around three more to go.
I'm a bridesmaid in May and would really like to be a target by then.
I've done slimming world before and find it really works for me. I started really motivated and even managed to lose over Christmas but now I'm feeling a meh about it.

I could do with chatting with some like minded people to keep me on the straight and narrow Grin

midori1999 · 11/01/2015 21:35

Hi pregnantagain7! It sounds like you're doing really well!

Whoever suggested the cheese sauce with cauliflower and Philly lightest, (sorry, on phone while getting toddler to sleep and can't easily look back through thread) thanyou very much! I made cauliflower and broccoli cheese with it tonight and it was really nice. I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised!

My day has been:

Breakfast: Linda macartney red onion and rosemary sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes, tinned spaghetti and fried eggs.

Lunch: porridge made with water with some asda fat free blueberry yoghurt and a sliced banana mixed in.

Dinner: cauliflower and broccoli cheese and sautéed potatoes.

Snacks: carrot sticks, 2 boiled eggs, banana, pear.

Fairygen · 12/01/2015 13:38

Hi all,
I did sw about 18 months ago and got to 3lbs off target. I felt so great and looked thin so somehow lost my motivation and stopped going to group.

I maintained from March until September when the odd naughty thing turned into a diet of rubbish! I've now put on 1 stone 12, and went back to group on Thursday.

I feel better already, but my shopping bill was ridiculous this week, and I spend so much time cooking!!

lorneylou · 12/01/2015 20:29

Hi everyone, just popping in really quickly after skimming the thread to say you are all doing brilliantly! I'm jealous! I never did get to my first meeting on Wed morning, DD came down with the vomiting bug on Tues night and very kindly passed it onto me Hmm
So have been housebound, and feeling carppy but looking forward to this Wednesday, I'm just about starting to get hungry again and been doing some meal planning tonight Grin

crystal85 · 12/01/2015 21:18

Fairygen - although you have put on be proud of getting there maintaining and acknowledging you need to rejoin :-) hope this time round is just as good for you.

Lorneylou - my first group day is tomorrow so you won't be any further behind going Wednesday just make sure you go first time is always the hardest.

Iggity · 12/01/2015 21:59

A pound off tonight. A bit disappointed. Fell off the wagon spectacularly when I got home and have eaten several bread sticks, yoghurt and a small bag of my son's malt biscuits! I did check back on some of the things I have been eating this week and probably should have checked sooner as some of them are not free so maybe explains it. Fresh start tomorrow and with a much better check on syn values this week and more exercise!

Iggity · 12/01/2015 22:01

Hi lorney, I wondered where you were! Hope you are feeling better soon and feeling up to starting soon. You can have some of my appetite!

Sleeplessinscotland1 · 13/01/2015 00:07

I joined SW tonight! I have accepted that I have not shrunk all my clothes and taken the plunge! Good luck to one and all!
#sadlythescalesdonotlie!

crystal85 · 13/01/2015 14:37

Well had my first weigh in and same weight now as a year ago and I was 6 months pregnant then lol
So my shopping is ordered for delievery tomorrow and I've done a meal planner of dinners to help me stay on track although I do need to plan lunch as that's another Down fall I'll just pick in the fridge.

Iggity · 13/01/2015 18:55

Well in an effort to try a bit harder this week and lose 2 pounds, I am doing extra easy SP today So far today:

B: 2 toast and 2 eggs (no speed as too full)
L: salad and chicken, lentils
Snacks: 1 apple and 2 pears
Dinner: tuna steak, roast butternut squash and broccoli/green beans
syns: some for chicken and lentils;

Not sure if I will do it every day but it was lovely having 2 slices of toast and eggs for brekkie!

lorneylou · 14/01/2015 13:56

Yay! Finally got to my group today and re-joined although couldn't stay for the whole thing Sad.
The group is huuugggeee, about 60 people there today so very different from my last one! Consultant seemed very on the ball and they have had some great success stories, one is in the SW mag this month I think!

Now the not so good news.....I stopped SW last October weighing 12st 13 and todays weight was 13st 10! Nearly a stone back on in just over a year!
Actually, I think I may have gained more than that as I have had periods throughout the year of losing a bit here and there. I'm not pleased with myself!
So I'm setting my target at about 11st7, so I have 2 and a bit stone to lose, hopefully more if I can do it.
I'm motivated today, I was really annoyed when I saw my weight and realised how all the hard work I had put in before was just wasted.
So glad I went though and that I'm getting started now, goodness knows where I would be this time next year if I just carry on as I am.

Glad the plan hasn't changed too much, I like the idea of the EE Sp but I do love my carbs, I'm hoping to give it a go when I've started to get my portions under control and am not so starving all the time.

Today,
2 coffees, tiny splash of milk and NO sugar
B: Apple (no time!)
L: 2 egg omlette with mushrooms, onions and rosemary
D: will be stir fried chicken, carrots, onion, celery, mushrooms, peppers with soy sauce and chilli flakes with small portion of wild rice.
Snacks: Just fruit today

Keep going eveyone!!!

Iggity, don't be disheartened by a pound. A lady at our group posted before and after photos the other day (on our Facebook group) and I'm not sure how much she's lost, but she looked 3-4 dress sizes smaller, there was a massive difference and she said she has never lost more than a pound a week, not ever. She looks amazing!

Lorneylou, it's horrid whe you've gained what you lost, I know as I joined 14 months ago, lost 2 1/2 stone and due to health problems when I rejoined last week I had gained it all back plus an extra 8lbs! So now I have to start again and whilst I am still on oral steroids long term.

It's my first weigh in tonight. Fingers crossed!

lorneylou · 14/01/2015 18:39

Iggity - heres someting for you....

lorneylou · 15/01/2015 10:14

sugar - I think the Rosemary and Red onion ones are free - all other flavours have syns.

Just noticed this morning - Alpen Light bars are on offer in Tesco at £1 a pack.
They are the same as the Hi-Fi light bars so you can have 2 for HEXB or 3 syns each.
I've been testing them Grin The lemon drizzle is yum!
