Starting SW again in the new year (and sticking to it!)....anyone else?

lorneylou · 29/12/2014 12:53

I first started SW in 2013, I loved it from the start. Consultant was fab, loved learning to cook new things, food was great and I wasn't hungry!

By October 2013, I'd lost almost 3 stone, felt brilliant, looked great, was very proud of myself.

By this time, I was finding it difficult to get to meetings, they were at an odd time and quite a drive away so I slipped a bit. Then it all went wrong when we went on holiday at the end of October, once in a lifetime kind of thing and I told myself I wouldn't worry about SW while we were away, I would enjoy myself. Well......I did, and I haven't been able to get back on track since.

So a year later I have gained most of the weight back (haven't weighed myself, too scared but fitting back into my stretchy size 16 jeans) and I feel like crap! Tired, spotty and I just can't be arsed!

I felt great from having a much better diet and although it took me a while to realise it!

So....I have found a much closer group that starts at 9.30 on a Tuesday morning, I will be able to get there after I drop DD off to pre-school and stay till the end of the meeting.

I have eaten so much crap at Christmas I am actually craving something healthy and looking forward to something green!

The hurdles for me....

Cost - We are a very low income and I will struggle to afford the meetings every week, but I am willing to give up whatever to ensure I stay motivated. We have had an especially crappy diet in recent months due to money shortages (eating the cheapest of the cheap) so shopping will cost more. I will work this out somehow

New group - I'm shy and not looking forward to a new group but will just have to bite the bullet...I did it before and I'll do it again! I also loved my old consultant and the group was a laugh, hope this one is as nice.

Portion control - I'm greedy, and that's it really. I need to get a grip.

Unsupportive DH - Was talking this through with him and he said he was so glad when I stopped SW, the food was bland, tasteless etc etc. I generally cook the same thing for all of us. Left to his own devices, he would live on burgers and anything that comes from Iceland. If it's not frozen and doesn't have sauce then its not food Hmm

Time - I did soooo much cooking when I was doing SW and it was hard to fit it in. I need to be less lazy, batch cook and freeze etc etc

On the upside...DD will eat pretty much everything and my mum and nan are very supportive.

It's my birthday in June and I want to go somewhere nice, looking nice and feeling great...not like this year!

Tuesday 6th January will be the start of me feeling better!!!!! Grin

Can I join?

I started SW in June 2011 when I was 19st 8lb. I lost 4 stone by Apr 2013. I was pregnant with my first and kept going to group all through the pregnancy. I gained a stone during the pregnancy but then we moved so I stopped going to group. I've rejoined 2 weeks ago at a different class, I weighed 17 Stone. I've lost 6 and a half lbs in two weeks but have just had a rubbish day this week.

My main issue is I can't really find a group that works for me and I need to go to group to keep to the plan. At the moment I leave work early to get to the nearest group but I'm still always late so I have to weigh in afterwards. This means I don't really benefit from Image Therapy.

I'm hoping that maybe this thread can provide an extra bit of support that i'm missing from the group at the moment.

My main motivation at the moment is that I'm going to be a bridesmaid in June. No dresses have been bought yet so it's going to be something high street. I tried on a coast size 18 yesterday and I can get into it but look bloody awful. So I really need to lost as much as possible before dresses get bought. I'd feel terrible if I limited the bride's choice of dresses by being too fat to fit into anything.

lorneylou · 26/01/2015 11:11

Welcome Toast! Grin

Six months is a good amount of time. Even dropping a dress size will make a huge difference to how you look and feel!
Are there any groups that are a bit further away but that start later? If you could still leave work early then maybe you could make it on time?

Good luck to everyone for weigh ins this week, especially you Iggity! There should be no weigh ins on a Monday!

I weigh in on a Monday I lost 1lb so not too bad as I was out at weekend for a curry and I had a bottle of wine eeek good luck everyone x

thatstoast · 26/01/2015 22:13

I think this week i'm going to try a later class. It's trying to juggle work and childcare as DH is always home later than me. So the plan is to head home to look after DS until DH gets home and then head back out in the evening. The plus side is this is class is next to a pool so i can go for a swim after class.

annielostit · 27/01/2015 10:55

Hi thatstoast, I can see what you mean about a class not working for you.
IMO, most sw consultants are much of a muchness. There are at least 6 in my area (10mile radius) and feel uninspired by them. 3 are bigger than me, it doesn't give you confidence.
I stay hoping I'll get something from other members.
Don't worry about the dress yet, you've a few months yet to buy. If I dress shop I always wear my suck inpants so I get the picture of how it'll look. Some coast dresses / materials aren't very forgiving. I have to choose structured heavier fabrics.

All have a good day.x

MadiSontRoy45 · 27/01/2015 12:22

Hi I joined sw two weeks ago lost 5lb in first week doing sp,having relationship trouble at home didn't go back second week went of the wagon so annoyed with myself.

lorneylou · 27/01/2015 17:37

Madi - Wecome! Please don't be upset with yourself, it happens to us all.

I think the thing I have had to learn is not to say 'bugger it!' after a blowout and just keep eating everything in sight! I think the difference between those that suceed at SW and those that don't is putting a bad day behind you and getting back on plan again.
I struggle with this the most.

If you have things going on at home, it is to be expected that you wont always be able to stick to plan, that's life.

I think SW is designed to allow for the occasional moments of madness. It's supposed to be an eating plan for life...so they can't really expect you never to have a weekend away with glorious food all around ever again, or go through a rough time where you're just eating whatever you can.

Be kind to yourself and don't give up, you have already had a brilliant loss and you can still do it! Grin
(and try to go back to group again if you can, I always leave feeling a little more determined!)

sugarsinner · 27/01/2015 19:36

You're right Lorneylou. There are many target members at my group who often admit to 'bad' days. They laugh about it, shrug it off and get back on it again. It's taught me not to be too hard on myself.

Weighed in today lost 1lb. A bit disappointed as I've been doing some SP meals and lowered my syns towards the end of the week. Keep trying to think of an explanation for a low loss after losing 5lb first week. There isnt one, so I'll just crack on this week.

thatstoast · 27/01/2015 22:08

My problem is that I used to love my old group. It was really small, usually no more than 20 people, and we all knew each other and the consultant was a bit mad as most of them are but she knew us and became a friend. Now I'm starting with a new group which is really busy, usually about 50, and my mad consultant can't even remember my name so it's quite disheartening. I guess if I keep going she will remember my name.

Anyway, weigh in is tomorrow so will let you know.

lorneylou · 28/01/2015 07:56

Eeek! Weigh in this morning. I really hope I have lost something this week!

Had a bit of a slip last night, DH had a crappy week so treated us to a gorgeous steak dinner (with all the trimmings) and wine. Everything fried ofc!
I couldn't say no, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I don't think it will make a difference today but I will have to be strict from now on to make up for it, lots of sp days to come this week I think. Also handing my food diary in so hopefully my consultant will be able to suggest some tweaks!

Toast - I am in the same position. I can't make it to my old one anymore either and this new one is huge.....76 weighed in last week but not all stayed. The consultant is nice but always in a rush when you talk to her so seems a little dismissive. She has said she will take my food diary home though and have a look over it as she doesn't have time during group.
She seems to know most of the people who have been going for a while, maybe they have a high turnover. It's nice though because I have sat beside the same two people both times I have been there and we have had a good old natter, they have only been there a few weeks too. Have you spoken to anyone there yet?
Both of the ladies I sit beside have not long given birth and are tying to lose the baby weight, when they asked me how old my DD was and I said 4, they were a bit Hmm. OK, so it's taken me a bit longer to get round to it but at least I'm there Grin

OP posts:
laughalot · 28/01/2015 10:03

Lorneylou my kids are 8 and 10 and I am still losing the baby weight Grin.

annielostit · 28/01/2015 12:27

My ds is 16!!! And I never got to my pre baby weight.
I didn't stop to group this morning, it might of been better as her boss was there.
Anyway sts this week which is good as its 4 weeks since joining and I've lost 5lb in total. Another 10lb by june 30th.
Having a green day today as I want cheese for lunch with beans on toast.
Fish & chips tonight, doing the batter type fish from the magazine. I will let you know if it tastes good.Smile

littlemefi · 28/01/2015 13:04

Hi all, can I join you?
Have done SW off and on for a few years, and actually got to target about 6 years ago before I had dd, who is now 5.
This time around I've been going to SW group for 18 months, and had got to 3lb from target, then went mad over Christmas and put on 7 lb! And have struggled to get back on plan since.

However, got a grip yesterday and did a big shop with only SW friendly foods, and made some butternut squash soup to have if I need something between meals.

annielostit · 28/01/2015 13:25

Hi little nice to hear from you. We're a nice little friendly thread here and look forward to talking and jigging you along.
Feel free to have a rant tell us what you've eaten that was good or confess your syns. Good luckSmile

lorneylou · 28/01/2015 13:35

Welcome littlemefi! Well done on being near your target, I know you have a little more to go now but it won't be long!

So got weighed today....2lb loss! I'm pleased, but my heart did sink a little when I realised it wasn't more. Been waiting two weeks now and have only had 2 slip ups. I guess I still have my mind focused on the big weighlosses I had at the start first time around. Anyway....onwards and upwards!

Handed my food diary in so it will be interesting to see what my consultant comes up with next week. I think I can see where I've been going wrong though.

  • I'm not drinking enough, everyone at group agrees that drinking more water really does help. I can't stomach our tap water, it smells so strong so I'm going to have to buy some bottles and aim to get through at least one a day
  • Not enough fruit and veg. What I'm eating is all free, but not really the right things. I will have say sausages, chips and beans which is all free but sausages, very small portion of chips and huge salad would be better.
  • I'm hungry all the time so snacking on fruit would probably help me to be less starving at mealtimes therefore have smaller portions.

Have been really skint this month so have just had to make do with whats left after DD has had but it's pay-day soon so I will plan plan plan! I really want to fit in a good few SP days to see if that helps me along!

OP posts:
thatstoast · 28/01/2015 21:21

Well I went to the later group which was a bit quieter so that was nice. And the consultant managed to get my name right after 2 guesses!

I've gained half a pound but it's my star week (who came up with that name?!) so I'm hoping to lose that and a bit more by next week. If I can lose a pound then i'll get my half stone award.

Well done, lorneylou I think 2lb is the ideal weight loss as it's sustainable. If you could lose 2lb a week you'd be at target in no time.

sugarsinner · 28/01/2015 21:34

Welldone on the 2lb loss lorneylou and thanks for sharing where you think you might have gone wrong, helps us all put it into perspective!

Ive come up with:

More water

Less pasta as it constipates me (I eat massive portions of the stuff) and replace it with potato

more speedy vegetables

more beans and pulses

I'm having a night off on Friday. Hopefully, it won't be too detrimental to next week's loss!

Iggity · 28/01/2015 22:06

Weigh in Monday. 1/2 pound on. Clearly the brownie fest which morphed into bread and soup and biscuit fest had an impact!
So went out for a run last night so happy about this.
Tonight I have had some birthday cake but justified as for my baby who died 7 years ago at 6 weeks old :(
Probably has used up syns for the week. So back to running tomorrow as DH gone out cycling tonight.
Positive vibes to you all! Need to read the thread properly.

Rivercam · 28/01/2015 22:22

Iggity Flowers - hope you are okay

lorneylou · 28/01/2015 23:14

Thoughts with you tonight Iggity Flowers

Really well done with your running during a difficult time, you are very committed! 1/2 pound is nothing really, fingers crossed for a loss for you next week.

Sugar - speaking of constipation....I have been suffering since I have started back on SW. Everyone at group has complained about ahem...gas but, some peoples bowels also seem to have gone into overdrive too!
I remember being like this last time and then eventually everything started working like a dream but god I'm uncomfortable! Not sure what is causing it though, hoping that upping water intake will help. Hope you have something gorgeous planned for Fridays dinner!

Toast - Glad you enjoyed your meeting more this week, do you think you would feel better continuing with this later one?
And what is a star week? I've never heard of that before.

OP posts:
annielostit · 29/01/2015 14:02

Lorney, star week is your period. We call it grumpy week at ours.
Big kiss for you iggity.eat as much cake as you need.x

All the lists above are what I should be doing. I don't drink enough fluid, wine doesn't count. I had 500mls of that last night and crisps. Today, making cake for oh birthday, but I just ate the trimmings.Sad
Are you going out on Friday sugar or just a night in & off.
What you going to eat?
I'm in Friday but out for steak on Saturday for oh birthday jolly.

lorneylou · 29/01/2015 14:33

Ahhh I see! Makes sense to take that into account really. More than half of my group are men though so probably why they don't go on about it!

annie - baking is such a nightmare isn't it! I also didn't realise how much I eat when I'm cooking for other people, a taste here and there to check seasoning etc. Probably adds up to another small meal!

I'm very jealous of all of you who are out at the weekend for something lovely to eat! Another one at home for us but I was trying to think of something nice to do for Saturday night. Dh and I usually watch a movie and have some snacky bits but was thinking of having our dinner after DD is in bed so theres no need for snacking!

Any ideas that are tried and tested?

Actually, does anyone have the Fakeaway book? I caught a glimpse of a Dopiaza recipe in there which I think I would love....it's my favourite curry! If anyone could post the recipie I would be very very greatful!! Grin

OP posts:
sugarsinner · 29/01/2015 17:16

Thinking of you Iggity xxxxxxxxxxx

I fancy a curry, so going to have a real take away! Opting for chicken rogan josh (only 10.5 syns) chapatti and boiled rice. Then... wait for it...
FULL FAT CHOCOLATE BROWNIE
Been craving for ages so I'm doing it! Also, our mortgage goes through tomorrow, so celebrating with a glass of fizz :)

Hope everyone is having a good week? Everyone at my group also seems to be gassy lorney. But I figured the last time I did slimming world that all you can eat pasta doesnt work for me .

Hope everyone has a good weekend xxx

annielostit · 29/01/2015 17:32

So I went home early from work today due to snow. Instead of being good for my weigh in later I ate almost a whole pack of biscuits :( WHY????
