Starting SW again in the new year (and sticking to it!)....anyone else?

lorneylou · 29/12/2014 12:53

I first started SW in 2013, I loved it from the start. Consultant was fab, loved learning to cook new things, food was great and I wasn't hungry!

By October 2013, I'd lost almost 3 stone, felt brilliant, looked great, was very proud of myself.

By this time, I was finding it difficult to get to meetings, they were at an odd time and quite a drive away so I slipped a bit. Then it all went wrong when we went on holiday at the end of October, once in a lifetime kind of thing and I told myself I wouldn't worry about SW while we were away, I would enjoy myself. Well......I did, and I haven't been able to get back on track since.

So a year later I have gained most of the weight back (haven't weighed myself, too scared but fitting back into my stretchy size 16 jeans) and I feel like crap! Tired, spotty and I just can't be arsed!

I felt great from having a much better diet and although it took me a while to realise it!

So....I have found a much closer group that starts at 9.30 on a Tuesday morning, I will be able to get there after I drop DD off to pre-school and stay till the end of the meeting.

I have eaten so much crap at Christmas I am actually craving something healthy and looking forward to something green!

The hurdles for me....

Cost - We are a very low income and I will struggle to afford the meetings every week, but I am willing to give up whatever to ensure I stay motivated. We have had an especially crappy diet in recent months due to money shortages (eating the cheapest of the cheap) so shopping will cost more. I will work this out somehow

New group - I'm shy and not looking forward to a new group but will just have to bite the bullet...I did it before and I'll do it again! I also loved my old consultant and the group was a laugh, hope this one is as nice.

Portion control - I'm greedy, and that's it really. I need to get a grip.

Unsupportive DH - Was talking this through with him and he said he was so glad when I stopped SW, the food was bland, tasteless etc etc. I generally cook the same thing for all of us. Left to his own devices, he would live on burgers and anything that comes from Iceland. If it's not frozen and doesn't have sauce then its not food Hmm

Time - I did soooo much cooking when I was doing SW and it was hard to fit it in. I need to be less lazy, batch cook and freeze etc etc

On the upside...DD will eat pretty much everything and my mum and nan are very supportive.

It's my birthday in June and I want to go somewhere nice, looking nice and feeling great...not like this year!

Tuesday 6th January will be the start of me feeling better!!!!! Grin

Thats handy to know about the syns booklet. I'll be happy with a pound a week loss. Im planning to have wine once a week but not many other syns.

massagegirl · 07/01/2015 21:42

Hello, can I join? On day two. Trying to really stick to it as have a wedding on Friday so no control over food, hoping for a good loss on Monday. Have an 18 month old and when she doesn't slerp I judt want to eat crap!

Rivercam · 07/01/2015 22:26

Hi all, I went to my first ever SW meeting on Monday, and am trying to learn the ropes. Unfortunately, I went to a work training day so lunch was damage limitation - avoiding chips, cake, etc. Fortunately there was a lovely fresh fruit salad. I need to meal plan.

midori1999 · 07/01/2015 23:25

Can I join please? I lost 2 1/2 stone with SW last year, then got ill in the summer and required a high calorie, high fat diet along with high dose and long term oral steroids. I've now put all 2 1/2 stone back on, plus an extra 10lb. Sad I feel gutted. I am still on the steroids, but I think I am well enough to be able to stick to the plan now. So I rejoined tonight and although I'm not setting a target yet I think I have about 5-6 stone to lose altogether, although I'd be happy to get to what I was last summer to start with.

iggly well done on your first week's loss, fantastic!

It's a great idea to take photos and also measure, I forgot last time.

Deedeecupcake · 08/01/2015 02:24

I started tonight. I weighed in at 13st10.5lbs which was a shock for me. Last time I weighed myself I was at 12st :(
Have meal planned for the rest of the week and am actually looking forward to losing this weight. I haven't got a target weight yet, but I would really love to be a size 12 by summer. Am struggling to stay in a 16 at the moment.
Hope you all are doing ok!

midori1999 · 08/01/2015 08:29

Deedee, it's awful finding out what you weigh when it's more than you expected or last weighed. I just try and tell myself that I never have to weigh that again.

I started with a cooked breakfast, which I did in the oven (except the eggs and spaghetti) while I had a shower this morning. I used the Linda Macartney red onion and rosemary sausages, which are actually quite nice and syn free.

Starting SW again in the new year (and sticking to it!)....anyone else?
notonyourninny · 08/01/2015 09:39

Wow midori that looks delicious. Are the plain LM sausages syn free too?

notonyourninny · 08/01/2015 09:41

Just had a mullerlight and raspberries for breakfast. Dh has left his sw lunch behind that I lovingly compiled last night so I shall be snaffling that later... Tuna pasta salad.

midori1999 · 08/01/2015 09:51

Thankyou. The LM plain vegetarian sausages are two syns each, the italian ones are half a syn each. Not sure if you eat meat, but the sainsburys be good to yourself and weight watchers sausages are all half a syn each too.

notonyourninny · 08/01/2015 12:40

Thanks for infomidori I love plain LM saisages but saving sins for treats wine i eatmeat but not sausages.Confused

Deedeecupcake · 08/01/2015 13:32

Mid - yes it was a shocker and my jaw actually dropped when I saw it. My consultant was lovely and "don't worry, you'll never see that number again". Which was very encouraging!
Going to attempt making the infamous sw chips this evening. Any tips to get them right? Have heard they can be a bit soggy if you get it wrong.

MickeyMixer · 08/01/2015 13:38

Just been for first meeting - so I'm marking the thread.

Squtternutbaush · 08/01/2015 14:30

So how's everyone doing?

I was 2lbs lighter last night so closer to my 2.5st award :o

notonyourninny · 08/01/2015 14:41

Well done on weight loss!

notonyourninny · 08/01/2015 16:11

Ive not weighed myself yet as doing the 7 days free on line, i am dreading it tbh.

sugarsinner · 08/01/2015 21:32

Thanks for that lorneylou... great tip about Morrisons, I'll definitely look in to that book. Batch cooking definitely seems to be key and DD will be on solids in 3 weeks time so guess it will be easier when cooking from scratch for her too. Hope your first week is going ok?

sugarsinner · 08/01/2015 21:41

First group is on Tuesday but I've been trying out slimming world meals in the mean time whilst polishing off the Christmas chocolate. Is it true that coco shreddies can be counted as a Healthy B extra with no syn value? I've googled and it seems to be the case...

Iggity · 08/01/2015 23:07

Well done squtternut, that's great. Nearly 2.5 stones is fantastic. How long has it taken you and any tips for when the boredome sets in!
Good luck everyone else on the plan. The week is nearly over so the hardest part for me is yet to come, the weekend! Really struggle with it so need to make some plans. I think this week has been good. I have been very stressed at work (not so good) but haven't turned to the biscuits and cake as usual. I'm not even craving them so in that respect, this week has been better than the first one. Am hoping for a 2 lb loss on Monday. I haven't squeezed in much exercise this week so took myself out for a walk this evening and need to get a few more in before Monday.

I don't know if any of you have tried making the slimming world hummus. It's the one with garlic, red pepper, chick peas and lemon juice. I made it yesterday and it was pretty dire. Did not resemble hummus in the slightest, particularly by taste. I did eat most of it over last night and tonight but not very enjoyable. There must be a better recipe or else I should just buy the low fat hummus. Today's menu

Breakfast: weetabix with milk (missed the fruit)
Lunch: tuna with cous cous and salad
Dinner, potatoes, chicken breast and green beans
Snacks: pear, stinky hummus with carrot sticks and low fat greek style yoghurt with tsp of honey.

Have a dinner out tomorrow at Prezzo so need to scour the menu for something suitable. Roll on Monday!

midori1999 · 08/01/2015 23:43

Sugarsinner, yes, 35g of coco shreddies are a HEb.

Iggity, I've made the same hummous but put a chicken oxo in it as that was the recipe given at our group. It still doesn't taste like proper hummous, but it's ok. I've also done a smoked aubergine dip, which is an aubergine chargrilled on a gas hob until the skin is black. Then cooled in a plastic bag and peeled. Drain the flesh well in a sieve and then blitz in a food processor with a garlic clove. A tablespoonful of fat free Greek yoghurt and a squeeze of lemon juice. It's really nice if you blacken the aubergine slowly to get it really smokey. Also, smoked salmon dip/pate, which is a pack of asda smartprice smoked salmon trimmings, stub of quark, squeeze of lemon and a tablespoon of horseradish all blitzed in a food processor.

calzone · 09/01/2015 00:00

Been angelic today!Smile

Fruit and ff yoghurt
Soup & beans on toast
Chicken and veg with oxo gravy

Milk a choice
2 tiny bread b choice

No syns.

Squtternutbaush · 09/01/2015 10:20

Oh I'm so buying Coco Shreddies!!! Thanks for that :o

Iggity its taken me since March so not quickly by any means but I'd lost 2 stone in the year before I started so I think its keeping steady but if I'm honest I've probably taken 2 days off a month in average which has probably not helped. In terms of boredom all I can say is take a break if you have too, I find the odd day off eating what I want and re reading the books does me the world of good getting myself refocused when I need a kick up the bum!

Sounds like everyone is doing well so far, fingers crossed for good losses, my weigh in day is a Wednesday.

Had a perfect EE day yesterday-

Breakfast: HEB All Bran, mixed berries and natural yogurt
Snack: Kiwi
Lunch: Homemade lentil soup and a WW yogurt
Snack: Apple
Dinner: Pork steak, mushrooms, brocolli, mash, honey roast carrots and parsnips and gravy
Snack: HiFi Salted caramel

Didn't use HEA but used B and 9.5 syns

Iggity · 09/01/2015 15:13

Midori, thanks for the recipe, I'll give those a try.

I need to try making some soup this weekend as love it and will help to fill me up. I haven't had any cravings yet so hopefully they are gone for the time being.

As I mentioned, I am going to Prezzo this evening so have just been scanning the menu and think I will go for the penne arrabiata. It's probably been made with some oil but I haven't used my syns today so am sure I can cover it.

sugarsinner · 09/01/2015 16:00

Thanks midori. That's my daily chocolate fix ticked off :)
I've had today
2×small wholemeal toast topped with with HE cheese and beans
Leftover lean beef casserole for lunch with a huge jacket potato and broccoli,
Mullerlight, pear, banana
Dinner will be a takeaway curry but I'll go tandoori chicken, Pilau and salad- syn value should be pretty low.

Looking forward to starting back properly next week. There's a bit of Christmas chocolate left for the weekend then it's full steam ahead for SW.
