Why do British children go to bed so early?

We find ourselves out of sync. with everyone else in that we don't put our children to bed at 7pm; more like 9pm.

We do this because our children are always at their best after tea (they settle down to a good play), if we put our 5 year old to bed at 7pm she would be up at 5am, and it's easier in the morning to have no time at all. (If we have some time, they start to play and we can't drag them off to school/nursery).

It also gives us a chance for a lie-in at weekends and during the week to breakfast in bed before getting the girls up.

Does anyone else follow this civilised routine, or is it just us in the UK?

I have just seen article and find a little perplexing. My husband and I are what one could call elderly parents, We are both over 40 and indeed can remember very strict regimes, but the one thing that has carried through with the both of us that we do believe in early bedtimes. We have two aged 5 and 8 and yes they will be both in bed by 7.30 at the absolute latest. They are both bathed and in their pyjamas after supper(around 6pm)I would add that I also often put my pyjamas on after bathing the kids. most of our friends put their kids to bed around the same time.

I think it's an English thing - probably because of the weather - here in Spain, even now at 12.30am - next doors 3 year old is still out playing, I can hear her. Kids in Spain usually go to bed around midnight - rather than having one long sleep over 24 hours it is split into 2 - so midnight until around 6am - then when schools finish at 2pm they have another 3 or 4 hour sleep in the afternoon. Much easier for kids, and adults, to split the sleep into 2 x 4 hour sleeps as this is more normal than having one long 8+ hour sleep.

my girls go to bed at 7
then they wake at 7.30 ish
so one hour to get three girls ready for school in the morning

if they go to bed later for more than a couple of night they are knackered and noone has any fun

This

A couple of later nights say 730/8 and mini blondes is grumpy and no fun

Bed 630/7 latest

She wakes 715/730

If wakes earlier she can look at books quietly till gro clock goes yellow which I think is 730 as that's her natural wake time

If she woke at 5 I would be firmly telling her to go back to sleep

Those who have early risers be consultant

Whatever time DD goes to bed she is up between 6 and 7am. her bedtime simply determines her mood for the following day.

I do what is right for my children.

DD is now 17 and currently still in bed 🤣🤣
