ds is 16 months.up untill 8 months slept great, then stopped!then we coslept till just over 1 year which was great but didnt last as we all seemed to wake each other.we also tried pu pd which was great for a bit but also didnt last.then i just conditioned myself to hourly waking, only falling to sleep which bottle no matter the time.but now hes drinking 4 pints of milk a day not eating because hes full on milk but waking all night for more milk as its not enough.i think hes also comforted by the sucking.
so tonight we did usual bedtime routine.quiet time, bath, bottle(but this time on bed not in cot),story and bed-but i took bottle out with me.i went in after 2,4,6,8 minutes then every 8 minutes after that as i think thats my limit that i can cope with.it took 1 hour in all but hes sleeping cuddling his sleepy cow.i want to hear positive stories to keep me going in early hours of morning!!!please dont anyone tell me off etc,i need support.

you see now I know why I did the PUPD method at 3/4 days old - because I don't think I could hack the controlled crying - you have my admiration truly! 4 pints of milk!!!!!!! The nappies must be so soggy!

All the best with tonight (and the weekend!)

DaddyJ · 03/05/2007 22:07

Fingers crossed firmly! Sounds like a very good start, good luck tonight.

kittypants · 03/05/2007 22:08

Good luck Kittypants, both my dses were sleeping through within 2-3 nights of cc and a friend tried it a couple of months ago and her dd was sleeping through after 2 nights. it's hard but once you've started try not to stop because all your hard work will have been for nothing and it will be harder the next time if you try again.

kittypants · 03/05/2007 22:40

thankyou, youve no idea how much this support is helping, its bloody hard isnt it!

CarGirl · 03/05/2007 22:46

especially when you think "if Ijust do x they will go back to sleep and so can I" Like those 2 hour stints when they are ill - sleep deprevations is HELL

kittypants · 03/05/2007 22:49

exactley.hes stirring now.fingers crossed he'll settle himself.

My dd would poo herself she'd get so upset if left (a variation on vomit I suppose!), then I'd have to change her and I'd be back to square one. So I only left her max 5 mins, and made sure she was quite content before laying her in bed - that sometimes meant spending 20 mins settling her before leaving her for 5 mins again. Worked for us, and there were a few things I had to alter so that she could settle herself (had to ditch the sleeping bags for one).

We were sorted within days...so I suppose I'm saying if it seems to go a bit pear, you can adjust here and there, where you think it might help. But with any luck it'll continue to improve for you and will be quite painless!

CC worked brilliantly for DS at 6 months or so old. Just a few nights of crying, he's been brilliant ever since. Good luck!

CarGirl · 03/05/2007 23:32

kittypants · 04/05/2007 09:11

tonight we did usual routine,i left,he cried,i returned after 2 minutes, left again and after 3 he was asleep!
tomorrow should i make first return 4 minutes instead of 2 to see if he sorts himself out?

Well done kittypants, so glad this has worked for you! You have done your ds a great favour in the long run. I really think it helps to build their confidence from knowing that they can settle themselves and don't have to rely on you all the time. V pleased for you!

OP posts:
CarGirl · 05/05/2007 10:23

Brilliant - hopefully I couple more nights and then he'll sleep thru completely!

DaddyJ · 05/05/2007 10:37

That's the funny thing when you suddenly get a full night's sleep - it feels a bit weird!
I am sure you'll get over it soon

Really pleased for you, kittypants!
