  • non sleeping! I can't even type
AMagdalena · 05/01/2018 07:37

Sorry to read the bad night that were had!

We didn't do too bad, except for DD lasting 15 min in the cot. She only woke twice and went straight back to sleep after a feed. I slept better, too.
She seems a little constipated now, though

Ven83 · 05/01/2018 08:11

Not too bad a night except I'd really really like another hour of sleep but DS has decided I've had enough and is currently lying next to me, kicking me and singing? God help me Brew

@Sakura03 Why not just take DS to bed with you? You'd have the peace of mind regarding safety.

sleepycat13 · 05/01/2018 08:39

@Catscatsandmorecats naps during the day are hard work.

If we are just pottering about they house then he won't nap other than a few lots of 20-30 mins on me after feeding and as soon as I move he wakes so I have to prioritise that every few hours to stop him becoming an over tired mess.

if I am out and about he will sleep better. seems to like movement so will sleep in the sling as long as I keep walking or dancing about and will also sleep in the car seat. he sometimes takes a while to fall asleep on the car seat but will then stay asleep for up to 3 hours. try not to do it routinely but when I'm really in need of a bit of a nap I will go for a drive with him and then leave him in the car seat when we get back. didn't do this until he was about 6 weeks though and was able to sit in car seat without his head slumping

AMagdalena · 05/01/2018 08:48

Yes, @Sakura I agree with Ven83. Your DS will be safer in your bed and you will get some rest, too!

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 05/01/2018 09:08

I think Sakura once described the set up in the lounge and I think it sounded quite safe - don't think she was falling asleep on the sofa, she'd made up a bed for them both? Could be wrong though!

DH took DS at 6 so I could sleep. But I overslept till 830 which is great but means I'm running massively late as need to do the nursery run and we have a play date at 10! Now giving DS a feed...

Sakura03 · 05/01/2018 09:39

Hi guys I appreciate your concerns but it’s a sofa bed. I will confess to have nodded off with ds on my lap a couple of times but since then we now pull out the bed by 9 pm every night when dp goes to bed just in case we need it. It’s not that comfortable so I prefer returning to the bedroom if I can but if too close to 5.30 am we won’t as don’t want to wake dp before he has to get up for work. I mentioned using the sofa (bed) to my health visitor on Wednesday and she agreed it’s fine. Sorry it’s my fault for not making clear that it’s a sofa bed (bad habit of just calling it the sofa).

Sakura03 · 05/01/2018 09:46

@WhoAteAllthePercyPigs I think I mentioned putting a mattress on the floor when I was at my mum’s over Christmas so that I could feed lying down and also get some sleep at the same time. That worked really well although could have done with a slightly thicker mattress😊 but I think I’m guilty of referring to the sofa when in fact it’s set up as a bed...

AMagdalena · 05/01/2018 09:47

Ahhh, apologies in this case!

NinaMarieP · 05/01/2018 14:14

Ah ok, sorry Sakura I had missed or forgotten you saying it was a sofa bed earlier. Smile

Sakura03 · 05/01/2018 14:53

@NinaMarieP no you’re fine - I hadn’t made it clear so I understand why you raised concerns😊

DotCottonIsMyIdol · 05/01/2018 16:54

Hey ladies...may I come and join you?

I have a four week old DS here who thinks sleep is for wimps! I've had a bit of bumpy start as I had a large PPH after his birth and had six days in hospital. I'd been home for two weeks then had another PPH, back into hospital for an ERPC for retained placenta swiftly followed by a much bigger hemorrhage in recovery. I've now had a further six days in, a blood transfusion and an iron infusion. Back home now thank goodness. Still knackered and wobbly.

DS, after a slow start, is EBF and putting on weight well . He'd got into a lovey routine during our last stay in hospital of sleeping for two 3.5hr stretches with a feed and change in the middle, waking up for the day about 8am. Bliss.

We've been home since Tuesday and everything had gone to pot. Last night I got an hour at 1am then and other about 3am. He's just wanted to cluster feed continually. I'm assuming it's his 4 wk growth spurt but god the nights are LONG. I'm feed for probably six hours in 24, it was mainly evening which was fine, I just watched tv but now it appears to be over night.

He's in a next to me crib but I'm terrified I'm going to fall asleep in the bed while feeding him. DH hasn't spent a night in with us since his birth (that's a whole other thread) and works away alot too so its all down to me.

Trying to put him down for a nap so I can have one too currently but he's very windy today poor boy and nothing is doing.

I'm sure I'll be back on later tonight making slightly less sense!

Jellybean2017 · 05/01/2018 17:39

Welcome @dotcottonismyidol, sounds like you've had a tough time.

My DS is five months and ebf, still waking every two hours and generally only sleeps on me. Sometimes next to me. Planning to give the Next2Me crib another go tonight. He is a nap refuser generally but this week has started to fall asleep in the car and pram, miraculous!

How was everyone's day? 😊 lots of us probably glad it's the weekend I guess. The days seem to fly by but the nights not so much...

Today was a four poos day... 💩

Welcome
@DotCottonIsMyIdol. Best thing you can do is learn how to safely cosleep and do that for some/all of the custerfeeding nights. I only gave in and did that once those sort of nights were almost over and I'm kicking myself for all the sleep I lost at the time (he cluster fed once a week at 5 and 6 weeks and hasn't done it since).

Jellybean2017 · 05/01/2018 17:57

Four?! Wow!!! 💩 that's impressive haha!

AMagdalena · 05/01/2018 19:00

Today was a three poos day here 🙄
That's an improvement after 6 the other day, but my DD has a problem with that anyway, so.
She loves baby rice ( has only half a tsp) and has been trying to feed herself already.

Here's to a good night Wine

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 05/01/2018 19:24

Welcome DotCotton! (love the name!) Wow, you've not had an easy time of it Flowers sounds like your DS is in cluster feeding craziness! It's so hard especially when they started off well. I was in hospital for a week with DS after he was born and he slept pretty well - was only on getting home that the fun started Grin Welcome to the thread, lots of amazing support on here plus chat about poo, snacks and other stuff!

Not a bad day here, had a lovely playdate with good mum friends, then a restful afternoon. Upsetting finish to the day when I went to pick DD up from nursery. Was looking for her shoes while she sat patiently on the wooden unit they have...and witnessed s small boy push her so hard she went absolutely flying, and whacked her head off a chair. Poor thing was so distraught. I was really upset, I know kids do push and bite each other but it was such a vicious attack and wholly unprovoked! The nursery staff obviously saw it and took the boy to one side. But it was unsettling and I hope it is addressed as well as it can be - apparently this lad has form for pushing others.

DD has a big bump on her head and is quite teary but seems none the worse. Keeping an eye on her and giving calpol as it was a big whack to her head.

AMagdalena · 05/01/2018 19:41

@WhoAteAllThePercyPigs How awful for your DD! IME there is always one child at nursery/preschool who bites/hits other kids for no reason🙄

So, my mum decides to come in our bedroom and slam the door on leaving 2 mins after a successful transfer. Impressed...NOT.
My DM must be the loudest and clumsiest person I know. Hand on heart.

Catscatsandmorecats · 05/01/2018 19:58

Hello @dotcottonismyidol what a thought time you've had. 4 weeks is still so little, I'm sure it'll improve.

@whoateallthepercypigs it's so sad when they get hurt like that, DS1 just howls and it is really upsetting, hugs for you.

@amagdalena I'll send my mum round, she is some sort of miracle worker baby whisperer, although I do feel bad just dumping DS2 on her whenever she arrives!

Well after a very bad start with over tired DS1 not wanting to go to nursery, then me crying pretty much continuously all morning after I dropped him off, and a little grumpiness at DH, my Dad came round and had DS2 for a couple of hours so I could go riding. When DS2 doesn't nap long enough for me to nap a break from it all to ride is the next best thing and my pony is very fat so needs exercise Then at pick up the nursery workers told me how good DS1 has been all day and DS1 let DH put him to bed, for the first time in about 6 months!

And here we go again for the night DS2 has gone down but I'm not sure he had enough of a feed before he zonked out to last very long so I'm sat in bed waiting to see what he'll do. Inevitably he'll wake wanting another feed just as we sit down to eat or start another black mirror.

Good luck everyone.....

NinaMarieP · 05/01/2018 20:36

It is now a five poo day. His average is 3 so it's not miles more but when does it become a thing to worry about?

AMagdalena · 05/01/2018 20:49

@Nina I consider myself a bit of a poo expert 😁 You only need to worry about poo, if it's really ugly looking, persistently mucousy or contains blood. Frequent pooing doesn't automatically indicate diarrhoea.

HashtagTired · 05/01/2018 21:11

Today has been a four poos day here too. Considering he was once a week, this is insane! I don't think he's well.

@AMagdalena when is poo not ugly? Confused

Off to sleep here. I'll be here latest. As always

NinaMarieP · 05/01/2018 21:12

Cheers. It's occasionally a bit green or sort
of stringy but not often so I figured he was just being extra generous today 😁

actino · 05/01/2018 21:35

Every day is a 5+ poo day here!

DotCottonIsMyIdol · 05/01/2018 21:52

Thanks for 5he welcome everyone....

I'm up to 7 poop filled nappies since midnight here! Usually 8 in 24hrs but plenty if time to break the record tonight.

I've been feeling in and off for 6 hours since midnight although some of that is just for comfort in sure as the poor boy is full of wind.

DH is still ill with D&V so no help to me today. I was hoping for a nap earlier but only got 20 mins. If I lie down to feed DS happily falls asleep on his side but always wakes a few moments after I've moved him onto his back no matter how carefully I try.
