Must get round to buying a nail clipper. Ds keep pinching my boobs and it bloody hurts.

Sakura03 · 05/01/2018 00:42

I think 0everyone else is asleep😉

Sakura03 · 05/01/2018 00:45

Just tried the sleeping bag on ds but maybe it's still a little too big, worried he could get his head through so I'll wait a bit I think. Anyone using sleeping bags?

Catscatsandmorecats · 05/01/2018 01:09

DS2 after being a cluster feeding nightmare to put to bed slept for four hours, I have had nearly 3.5 hours sleep, this is unheard of! It is particularly brilliant because it's the first break longer than 2 hours I've had since he was born as he totally refuses s bottle. I may be a bit giddy with excitement!

@sakura03 I've used sleeping bags from day one with DS2, but he was a big baby. It goes on when his PJ's do so he feds in it and is nice and toasty when I put him down, he seems very happy with it (I just need him to be able to go longer between feeds now, especially at night).

DS2 has DS1's routine, he just has to tag along but we've read to DS1 since he was a couple of weeks old. We do bath, into PJ's, into bed/sleeping bag then I read stories and normally DS2 feeds at some point during them. DS2 normally takes n extra feed in our room after DS1 has fallen asleep before I can put him down as he feeds a lot better on the dark and quiet (which is why I think he feds as much, if not more, overnight than in the day,). Anyway, reading is a big part of the routine and I love it unless I'm having to read a dreadful story from the 1988 my little pony annual for the millionth time

Right, time to attempt to put DS2 back down...

NinaMarieP · 05/01/2018 01:19

We moved to sleeping bags when he outgrew his swaddles. He's so long that he can't stretch out his legs in most of his 0-6 month ones and that's been the case since we moved to them at 4m! I need to get some 0-6 ones but as he sleeps with his legs up anyway I'll wait until I can get to a second hand sale none of ours cost more than £5. The new price of them is silly IMHO when you need 4-5 of them at least when you think about how often they are puked on etc and they do take a while to air dry.

Like others have said we put it on before he is fed, well, at his between boob nappy change/pyjamas on if they aren't on already.

NinaMarieP · 05/01/2018 01:22

I've read to LO at bedtime a couple of times but we are far from introducing it as a routine.

Our evening goes either long nap or a long playing session (where I suppose we could read but usually we're hoping he'll tire himself out for bed).

Then it's starving and needing a feed, and he feeds to sleep or near enough. If he's still awake after his feed it's usually because he's become over tired by the time he's full and he needs his dummy and some shushing/rocking/patting but he's usually asleep within fifteen minutes.

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 05/01/2018 01:37

Hi all! Checking in for first feed here.

Ha ha Sakura I'm guilty as well for all the snack chat! I keep a box of Nakd cars by my bedside - not too sinful a snack. I'm trying to cut down on sugar but it's very hard - especially being so tired!

Cats -:we've been watching Black Mirror, managing an episode a night thanks to me having to get to bed at 9! In the old days we'd have watched the whole series in one go...

We have a bedtime routine for DD which DS kinda fits into for now! Dinner at 6pm for all, followed by a bath every other night, change into jammies, story time and milk, bed at 8 for DD. DS then has his bottle and comes up to bed with me around 9 ish. DD is very gradually dropping her daytime nap so her bedtime will get earlier. Will just have to see how we go with DD bedtime as he gets older.

Zampa we love story time in our house! DD really enjoys it and so do we. Feels like it makes the evening routine go in a little faster too...

Meep really hope tonight is better for you.

Sakura03 · 05/01/2018 01:39

Couldn't settle ds so laid down and feed on the sofa where we both nodded of. Just tried putting him down in his cot but nr woke straight away... hmm not a great start to the night...

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 05/01/2018 01:41

Oh and Sakura we're not using sleeping bags yet, DS is still too small for them. He's currently wearing a swaddle wrap(pink as it was his sister's!) but busting out of that quite easily. Think I'll wait for a bit before introducing the sleeping bags.

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 05/01/2018 01:44

Sounds a bad night Sakura. Really hope he settles so you can get some sleep. I'm trying to mentally prep myself for being awake for the next few hours, if the past few nights are anything to go by!

Jellybean2017 · 05/01/2018 02:03

I have been awake for nearly two hours trying to settle DS. Looks like I will be letting him sleep on me again as I'm knackered and he just won't settle next to me.

Sakura sorry you're having a bad night. There are some nice Graze snacks on offer at tesco this week which might be worth a try. I also like the nakd bars and little packets of dried fruit.

We don't have a great bedtime routine.. We get him changed and into sleeping bag. Dim lights and nursery rhyme or song, then feed to sleep. He doesn't seem to like listening to a story yet but I do keep trying as I'd like to get this into the routine. Baths tend to happen in the morning as he gets stressed out coming out of the bath which isn't very good for bedtime settling.

Hope it's fairly quiet due to lots of good nights!

I spoke too soon - DS1 had I nightmare I think and has come into our bed but is now too hot, the disturbance was enough to wake DS2 who DS1 then helpfully pointed out wanted a feed 🤦

DH is putting DS1 back to bed now, at DS1's request, which is nothing short of a miracle. Oh no - he's back in with me now because DH just left him the second he was in bed, excellent.

When DS1 was little we just read a tiny fabric book to him each night,.it was very short but he really grew to love it and at times now asks for it.

@whoateallthepercypigs i loved the first two but we are averaging one every other night due to DS2. Are you enjoying it?

I hope DS1 sleeps so we can all go back to sleep too

@sakura03 I hope you get some sleep soon

HashtagTired · 05/01/2018 03:37

Feed #1 done.
To be fair, dh has only just brought him up. He has obviously listened. It's always a quick handover and I asked how he was doing. Ds replied "he's been a little dickhead!" Well hello. Welcome to the nightshift! Apparently he's filled 2 nappies and has barely slept.
However, but for Ds waking me up at 10pm and me struggling to go back to sleep, at least I have had a good few hours rest and caught up a little bit from last night.

@Catscatsandmorecats I had forgotten dd has swimming lessons on Thursdays so it was pretty straight forward! Still haven't charged the iPad. Must must must do this in time for Saturday!!!

@sleepycat13 we read to dd (5) every night. We started this about 1. But when I'm putting to bed Ds comes with me so he kinda gets the story too.
His bedtime routine is - I hand him to dh and I go to bed! So no idea really.
But when I put him down when dh is out, it's nappy and into baby grow and bag him up. Feed to sleep around 7:30/8. He wakes an hour later for top up and that's it really.

@Sakura03 Yes to bags here. Some of them have opposed under the arms to narrow the gap. That'll help stop it going over their head if you are worried. Also, if there's room at the bottom, fold the excess under their feet. That might help. We bag up Ds every night. Without fail. Bag supporters over here!

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 05/01/2018 03:48

Thought we might be about to break the pattern of staying awake for hours when DS fell asleep and stayed asleep during cot transfer. WRONG!! After barely 20 minutes he was awake again. Was my fault as I'd taken the swaddle off to change his nappy and didn't put it back on. He aways squirms and resists it whilst crying loudly, I didn't have the energy to try! Swaddle now back on and feeding him, really hope this works. Sigh. He's 9 weeks today and clearly not subscribing to the theory that sleep gets better after 6 to 8 weeks...

Cats I'm loving Black Mirror! What about you? Charlie Brooker is a damn genius and not enough people recognise this...

Zampa · 05/01/2018 03:50

Aargh. Worst night ever. DD2 has been waking hourly, feeding for 5 minutes (if that) and falling back asleep. Presume she's feeling unwell because of her bronchiolitis. May have to give up at around 5 and let Daddy look after her until he goes to work.

Also need the loo but bed too nice and warm to leave ...

HashtagTired · 05/01/2018 03:51

@WhoAteAllthePercyPigs good luck. Fingers crossed 🤞

What is this black mirror? What channel is it on? BBC? Netflix/prime/sky?

HashtagTired · 05/01/2018 03:52

@zamoa. Get to the loo. Dd will be awake and want feeding and you'll be desperate by then. It's not worth the wait and I'm speaking from experience!

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 05/01/2018 03:57

Yup Zampa get to the loo! Cos there's really nothing worse than being stuck under a hungry baby whilst busting for a wee. Ties like that I miss the catheter I had post section Grin

Hashtag it's on Netflix. Four series so far, started off British but now has American backing. SO good. If you like your viewing bleak and satirical! But also blackly humorous.

DS may be falling asleep...I hope....

Zampa · 05/01/2018 04:20

Ok - I've been! Tempted to pick up warm baby to get toasty again but she's sleeping so must try and join her!

Catscatsandmorecats · 05/01/2018 04:55

No sleep going on here, DS1 has taken two hours to settle in our bed and now DS2 is up again for a feed, my eyes are stinging.

@zampa go to sleep!

@hastagtired oh, swimming lessons are brilliant for eating g up time, and energy, that's great!

@whoatealllthepercypigs I'm really loving it, you are right Charlie Brooker is indeed a genius, I can even forgive there being no 2017 wipe for such a good series.

Winding DS2 now, I'm in the most squashed up position on my side of the bed so as not to squash or wake DS1. I hope I get some sleep soon

Zampa · 05/01/2018 05:09

Both DDs awake now!

Sent OH to deal with oldest (called his mobile in the spare room where he sleeps during the week!).

NinaMarieP · 05/01/2018 06:08

I don't want to make you feel bad or have a go, and what's done is done, but sleeping on the sofa with a baby is really really unsafe @Sakura03. We've all done it (including me, but only when someone else was wide awake and watching us) but it really should be avoided. Even the biggest cosleeping advocates warn against it.

sleepycat13 · 05/01/2018 06:14

have managed 2 stints of 3 hours tonight with 1.5 hours of being awake in the middle. now that feels like a good night. funny how I would never have said that before ds!! still knackered though. so hoping this wake doesn't last too long and he gives me another hour

sleepycat13 · 05/01/2018 06:59

after feeding for an hour and managing the transfer i thought we were on to a winner. nipped to the loo and came back to a wide awake baby. groan. cup of tea and toast it is then

Catscatsandmorecats · 05/01/2018 07:23

We're all up now too, tea and toast sounds heavenly but I need to rush around to get DS1 to nursery. Maybe I'll indulge afterwards if DS2 is obliging. I was in such an awkward position I didn't sleep and now I ache too.

@zampa why when you have a second does the first start tag teaming with them.to allow you the least sleep possible?!

How are your mom sleeping babies in the day? Do they nap, and in their cot, or out and about and for how long? I wonder if DS2's rubbish napping doesn't help
