NCT ARE REFUSING TO CONFIRM WHETHER THE BEDNEST IS SAFE TO USE

I have been asking NCT to confirm whether the NCT Bednest (their branded product) is safe to use and passes the relevant safety law.

I have sent emails and they are refusing to answer them.

I then posted the question on their Facebook page which they deleted.

SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG HERE! If anyone else can email NCT to find out about the safety of their cot please let me know their response!

Wouldn't it be illegal to sell in UK if relevant safety tests had not been passed?

They took it off sale not too long ago to double check it met safety regulations. It would not be on sale again if it hadn't. I'm trying to figure out your motivations to start some kind of movement against Bednests.

My friend offered to lend me one. I did some research and for obvious reasons I wanted to know if it was safe to use. I know people are using these cots and so asked NCT for a straight answer as to whether it is safe to use.

They are refusing to answer this question. What worries me is that if it is not safe to use or does not pass the relevant safety law and NCT are aware of this - then as a charity they need to take some action! What started off as a basic question is now turning into something potentially more serious.

I have nothing against Bednest - I just want a straight answer from NCT it is their branded cot. Why is this contentious?

I think they'd be in an awful lot of trouble if they were selling unsafe equipment.
Are you aware of safety tests?

What kitemarks or CE code does it have?

The Bednest has been tested and passed by FIRA (Furniture Industry Research Association) to British Standards BS EN 1130-1&2 :1996 Cribs and cradles for domestic use. It's also passed the latest 2014/15 US safety standards: ASTM F2906-13 safety standards for Bedside sleepers ASTM F2194-13a safety standards for cradles and bassinets.

Why doesn't someone else ask NCT for an answer to get confirmation rather than all of us debating it!

Hi crumblybiscuits this is obviously from Bednest's site as NCT's website has no reference to the cot anymore.

I trust NCT - they are a charity not a company making money. I just want a straight answer rather than debating it with other mums. None of us are experts, which is why I want NCT to answer what should be a very easy question!

That was a straight answer from the company that provides the Bednests for the NCT to sell.

So you don't want to purchase it from the NCT, you just want them to help make your mind up as to whether you should borrow it from your friend?

Why wouldn't you want to find out the answer from NCT?

It has passed relevant safety tests.

There was a tragic accident which it sounds like was caused by not following safety instructions and over-tilting the bed.

In the aftermath of that accident and while additional investigations are being carried out, the NCT have (most likely temporarily) stopped selling it. Because of controversy, as well as safety.

That controversy is also why they're evidently unwilling to answer your question - and anyway it's not a product they currently sell, so why should they?

And yes, the NCT are a charity, but of course they make money from anything sold in their shop - that's the point of the NCT shop!

Why is everyone reluctant to ask NCT whether the cot is safe and passes the safety law? The only reason I have started these posts is because NCT are refusing to answer these questions and even deleted them from the Facebook page.

No because unfortunately the baby's death was user error. NCT can discontinue whatever they wish to. It is still legally sold as a safe crib to use in the UK and has passed all its safety tests. I intended to buy one for my next DC.

They may have sold it but it's still not their product.

No, it isn't seriously worrying. The tragic accident happened when it was used incorrectly. How long do you expect one of these cots to be in use for? It has passed the safety laws. Why are you asking a question you already know the answer to?

It has only become an agenda because NCT are refusing to answer a question about the cot. If you don't believe me send them an email.

Also, the only people who have said the cot was not used properly is Bednest themselves! From what I have read no one else has said this including NCT.

Agree . They stopped selling it following bad press and it probably wasn't that profitable a product anyway. The tragic death occurred when the basic use instructions weren't followed and the baby was placed on front to sleep. The coroner did not blame the cot itself. If you'd rather not use it , fine, but scaremongering is not helpful.

Why are you asking NCT though? They don't make the cot. They no longer sell the cot. Why not direct your question to the Bednest company itself?

As I said before the only people that have said the instructions weren't followed was Bednest! Of course we should blindly follow them!
