NCT ARE REFUSING TO CONFIRM WHETHER THE BEDNEST IS SAFE TO USE

MandyP111 · 07/10/2015 09:31

I have been asking NCT to confirm whether the NCT Bednest (their branded product) is safe to use and passes the relevant safety law.

I have sent emails and they are refusing to answer them.

I then posted the question on their Facebook page which they deleted.

SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG HERE! If anyone else can email NCT to find out about the safety of their cot please let me know their response!

You are so going to look back on this and cringe!

MandyP111 · 07/10/2015 10:16

I have also asked Bednest and they have not provided an answer to my question either.

If I am scaring you LIZS by telling you that NCT are refusing to answer this question then this can only be a good thing!

"As I said before the only people that have said the instructions weren't followed was Bednest! Of course we should blindly follow them!"

This isn't quite right. The person who found this to be the case was the coroner. Because it was a second-hand one and the instructions had not been supplied with it (according to BBC report of the inquest).

LIZS · 07/10/2015 10:20

No you're not scaring me ! My dc are long since beyond using a crib. Why don't you look up the coroner's report, then you would understand the exact circumstances and comments, from someone with no vested interest.

www.madeformums.com/news-and-gossip/bednest-nct-stops-selling-bedside-crib-following-death-of-7-week-old-baby/37770.html

This article does not suggest that the cot was an issue but it's use, without having original instructions, was a contributory factor.

MandyP111 · 07/10/2015 10:24

AuntieStella thanks for that. The report says that urgent action needs to be taken! But NCT have stripped everything about the cot from their website. What is the big deal about NCT not answering my questions?

I hope everyone appreciates that we would not be having this 'debate' if NCT would simply answer my question!

OP posts:
MandyP111 · 07/10/2015 10:26

If it turns out the cot is not safe and doesn't pass the safety law - it won't be me that will be cringing will it!

Again - why can't NCT answer a simple question? Unless you are on the NCT payroll I fail to see what the big issue is?

crumblybiscuits · 07/10/2015 10:27

But it does pass the safety law. I showed you that earlier.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 07/10/2015 10:28

The NCT will not be able to answer your questions. They will either remove them or ignore them for legal reasons. There are unresolved legal issues which is why the cot is not currently available for sale. They will not answer your safety queries at the current time, until everything is resolved.

It won't matter if you email or I email or you get the whole MN to email.

LIZS · 07/10/2015 10:29

But NCT no longer supply it. That was the action they took , so why is it their responsibility to confirm anything to you, especially as you are not their customer Confused if you want to take it further speak to Trading Standards but afaik it was never subject to any recall.

MandyP111 · 07/10/2015 10:29

Thank you crumblybiscuits I have seen Bednest's website as well. I also bought a Volkswagen a couple of years ago thinking it was good for the environment. What is your point?

Is this the NCT supporters forum or something?

OP posts:
DriverSurpriseMe · 07/10/2015 10:34

It is safe to use.

It's always been safe to use.

That baby died because the parents had the cot incorrectly set up AND they put her to sleep on her front. If they hadn't done those two things, she'd be alive today.

No, I have no care for the NCT either way. I was just letting you know that they will not be able to answer. You will need to make a decision based on the information you can access indirectly. They will not be able to answer, regardless of how much you hassle them.

If that means the risk is too high, for you, reject the cot and find a different solution that is more suitable for you.

It's not a simple question.

Firstly, it is far to broad as you haven't specified how you intend to use it. For all they know, you could be planning to strap it to the roof of your car.

Secondly, the NCT do not know how your friend has treated the bed nest. She could have damaged or customised it.

If you want to pursue this, you should contact the manufacturer direct with a detailed history of usage and photos showing the current condition and see if they will assist

However, if you're in anyway concerned about the safety, I just wouldn't use it.

Fizrim · 07/10/2015 10:38

Nope - never been a member of the NCT or worked for them.

DriverSurpriseMe · 07/10/2015 10:39

Good point Tea

But honestly, if you're a) not hysterical about it, and b) set up the cot correctly, it's impossible for a baby to come to harm. Literally impossible. I'd love to know how a baby could come to harm if they were laid to sleep on their back, with the cot set up flat (or slightly tilted as per the instructions).

You need to use your rational brain instead of crusading against the NCT over something that was never their fault.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 07/10/2015 10:44

I don't understand why you think the NCT have a responsibility to answer a question regarding a product that they don't product and don't sell? Surely Bednest themselves are best placed to answer your question?

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 07/10/2015 10:44

*produce

Kafri · 07/10/2015 10:49

Oh my!! Just wasted 5mins of my life reading this!

So NCT stock an item (used to) in their shop, similar in fact to the way Argos list many items in their shop and you're crusading against the NCT cos they won't answer a question you have about a product. Would Argos provide you with similar details for all of their stocked items - I highly doubt it!

The bednest was used incorrectly (due to not having the instructions passed on with the cot) with the side left down which allowed a baby on their front to be able to get their head over the side and suffocate. Absolutely tragic but neither bednest nor NCT can account for incorrect use!!

Let's be honest here though OP, you're not going to be happy until the whole of mn jump on and agree with you on this.....

bendybootpumpkinpatch · 07/10/2015 10:52

It's not the NCTs product and they no longer sell it!!! Why would they answer your hysterical email's?
It's safe to use and has passed standard tests, a pp just showed you that. I think the best solution for you is just don't use it and to calm the fuck down !!

MandyP111 · 07/10/2015 11:02

Firstly, Argos did not sell an 'Argos Bestnest'. The product my friend has is an NCT Bednest. People could buy them from John Lewis - where they were sold as the NCT Bednest. NCT brand the product which means they endorse it () - I suggest you forward to 1 minute in. I hope this answers your question about NCT not producing the product.

Secondly, the fact is that only Bednest have blamed the parents. The coroner's report does not blame the parents.

Thirdly, babies sleeping on their front is to reduce SIDS not to prevent against the risk of them getting their head over the edge of a cot! I cannot believe people would even try to argue otherwise.

Importantly. the reason why people even know about this cot is because NCT branded it, marketed it (see the video). As a charity they have a responsibility to answer this question. Why are we even debating such an obvious point!

OP posts:
bendybootpumpkinpatch · 07/10/2015 11:05

THEN JUST DON'T USE IT !!

You've had proof it's fine. If your still doubtful it's best you use some thing else.

MandyP111 · 07/10/2015 11:08

The only 'proof' that is fine is from Bednest. Unlike you I do not blindly accept what a company tells me.

If you are a militant NCT support that is a matter for you. Why are you getting upset when all I am doing is trying to find out whether or not the NCT Bednest - yes the NCT Bednest - not the Argos Bednest or the Sainsbury Bednest - passes the safety law. This is an easy question! If NCT cannot answer this, all I am saying is that people should be seriously concerned? Unless of course they are like bendybootpumpkinpatch who will believe anything a company tells them!

OP posts:
MandyP111 · 07/10/2015 11:09

Sorry for the poor spelling - I meant to say the only proof that it is fine is from Bednest - oops!
