NCT ARE REFUSING TO CONFIRM WHETHER THE BEDNEST IS SAFE TO USE

MandyP111 · 07/10/2015 09:31

I have been asking NCT to confirm whether the NCT Bednest (their branded product) is safe to use and passes the relevant safety law.

I have sent emails and they are refusing to answer them.

I then posted the question on their Facebook page which they deleted.

SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG HERE! If anyone else can email NCT to find out about the safety of their cot please let me know their response!

Thirdly, babies sleeping on their front is to reduce SIDS not to prevent against the risk of them getting their head over the edge of a cot! I cannot believe people would even try to argue otherwise.
**
SIDS advice is that babies are placed on their backs not front. These unfortunate parents did not follow that advice nor the cot instructions. Sad

MandyP111 · 07/10/2015 11:14

Again - do you know whether the instructions provided by Bednest are themselves safe and pass the safety law? Yes, obviously I meant that SIDS and babies on their back is the advice.

So the bottom line is everyone is scared to ask NCT whether they consider a product they produced WITH Bednest and the instructions pass the safety law. Well I hope that none of you know someone who is using the Bednest because if it turns out that it did not pass the safety law - you will look back at this and feel pretty stupid. Especially when all you need to do is ask NCT a simple question?

Come on NCT does the NCT Bednest and its instructions pass the safety law? Your supporters think that it does because they blindly follow what a company tells them?

LIZS · 07/10/2015 11:15

Sorry , bold fail.

It passed the safety regulations at the time of production. Of course these may change over time and occasionally a product might be withdrawn or recalled subsequently. If recalled they might offer modification for continued use or be taken out of circulation completely and a refund issued. Afaik neither applied to this product but Trading Standards could confirm. If you have reservations as pp stated just find an alternative. If you are pg you really should be using your energy elsewhere.

Why can't NCT answer the question on the basis that the cot is in perfect condition? Also, Bednest are still renting out NCT Bednest cots?

Again - everyone is inexplicably protecting NCT? I don't understand. Surely they can answer the question of whether ALL NCT Bednests pass the safety standards at the time they were produced?

Again - everyone is relying on what Bednest have said. NCT are the joint producers of this product! They are a charity with a public responsibility to educate parents! This is the main reason they are a charity.

I would be grateful if an objective person who is not a militant NCT supporter or someone on their payroll can engage with this?

People can't just lie and say they've passed safety regulations you know. Hmm I won't feed you anymore. What a coinkydink this is your first post.

MandyP111 · 07/10/2015 11:30

If it turns out that the NCT Bednest is not safe or does not pass the safety law and that NCT did nothing about this - how stupid will you all feel!

You will also feel ashamed of yourselves if you know people who are using the cot in circumstances where NCT are refusing to confirm whether or not the cots sold with their brand pass the safety law.

Get off the NCT bandwagon!

crumblybiscuits this cot allegedly passed the safety law www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2677656/Mothercare-recalls-two-types-luxury-140-cot-mattress-fears-catch-fire-change-production-process.html

But according to you it must still be safe to use. Again, why can't NCT answer this question?

OP posts:
TreeSparrow · 07/10/2015 11:49

Why don't you just continue posting that same question here, again, and again, and again, like a weird obsessive? Confused

I've found this thread scary reading, and that's nothing to do with the bednest itself.

gincamelbak · 07/10/2015 11:50

If you didn't buy the cot from the nct then leave them alone. Ask the manufacturer the questions.

You are asking them to tell you a cot is safe. A cot that doesn't belong to you, bought from (as far as they are concerned) who knows where and used in a way they have no knowledge of.

DriverSurpriseMe · 07/10/2015 11:50

Thirdly, babies sleeping on their front is to reduce SIDS not to prevent against the risk of them getting their head over the edge of a cot!

She was only ABLE to get her head over the cot because a) SHE WAS PLACED ON HER TUMMY and b) BECAUSE THE COT WAS
TILTED AT SUCH A STEEP ANGLE

I also believe the cot side was at half mast. If it had been fully up it would have been much to high to get a baby's head over.

Sorry for the shouting.

My four month old son sleeps in a Bednest and it would be physically impossible for him to get his head over the side under normal conditions.

DriverSurpriseMe · 07/10/2015 11:52

I'm not an NCT supporter btw. I pretty much hate everything they stand for. But you, OP, seem not to understand a single thing about how the Bednest works, so I fail to understand why you're on this ridiculous crusade.

OP if you are as concerned as you sound then use a different co sleeping cot. I used one called Arms Reach. You can buy them new or through eBay second hand and I thought they were excellent.

MadgeMak · 07/10/2015 12:04

Crickey, get a grip OP.

Shetland · 07/10/2015 12:10

If you refuse to believe what Bednest say about the safety of it then why are you getting all paranoid about NCT's response (or lack of)? Are they more believable than Bednest then? If they say it's ok will you trust it completely even though you don't believe the safety information that's already out there?

HermioneWeasley · 07/10/2015 12:38

OP, nobody is scared of the NCT, we are pointing out that your insistence on an answer is bizarre and unreasonable

What is more likely - that multiple long standing posters are really NCT plants, or that you are being unreasonable ?

FATEdestiny · 07/10/2015 12:46

MandyP111 - While you may be excitedly pregnant and researching, this may be a new story to you. However the tragic accident involving the bednest is old news.

Threads on the subject and been and gone. Many posters here are au fait with the facts and discussion because we have all done this same discussion before, when it was news originally.

The tragic death of the 7 week old in a NCT Bednest resulted because:

  • The baby was placed on its front
  • The bednest was tilted to steeply

Both factors which were against instructions for correct use of the bednest (and against SIDs recommendations)

The NCT have stopped supplying this product because of bad press. They did not manufacture the product, just endorsed it. They no longer endorse it. It happens lots in the business world that big companies stop endorsing things because of bad press.

horsewalksintoabar · 07/10/2015 12:50

Then don't get one. End of. Move on.
Next!

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 07/10/2015 13:21

THEY LEGALLY CANNOT ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS.

They might be hiding something, but it's unlikely. They are probably just bound by miles of red tape which means they will not be able to respond to your questions. They are not continuing to sell or endorse the product. That is it, the end.

It does not matter what your opinion of the company is, it could be made by anyone, the situation is the same. Legally, you will not get an answer.

You will need to do your own risk assessment, based on the safety certifications it did have, and the reports of what contributed to the death.

blibblobblub · 07/10/2015 13:33

Seriously OP, what's your problem?

If it's stressing you out so much just don't borrow it and use something else. Good grief.

BitchPeas · 07/10/2015 13:40

You haven't even bought one? Just don't accept a freebie if you don't want it or think it's safe. Pay money for a new one that meets your requirements? Why is this even an issue for you? It's clear from the coroners report what happened, there is no conspiracy.

Have a bath or a long walk or a shag to get rid of all your tension OP, this is pointless.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 07/10/2015 13:41

Unlike you I do not blindly accept what a company tells me

So why will you believe whatever the NCT tells you? You are being very irrational. You don't believe Bednest but would believe that NCT?
They legally cannot answer your question. What part of that don't you understand?
