Here we are. Sleep deprived, emotional and craving all things sugary just to survive the day.

bah.

Hi marushka are you still away, freezing?!

Well took 90 mins to settle, 1st wake up 20 mins later FFS. But...I resisted temptation to shove boob in gob and bored him back to sleep talking to him & hand holding. Let's see how long it lasts this time....

How people can do cc/cio is beyond me, nothing against the principle, just don't have the nerve for it soft

cakebaby · 21/01/2014 21:15

XP tired how are you today?

Only today did I twig exactly what your username is, I'm so sleep deprived I read it as something entirely different!

Tiredemma · 21/01/2014 21:33

Everybody reads it as 'tiredmama' for some reason!

I am so so tired tonight. DD has been horrendous all day.

OP posts:
cakebaby · 21/01/2014 21:43

That's how I read it!

Poor you, sending sleepy vibes for tonight.

So, since 7pm, I have been downstairs a total of 40 mins, in 2 blocks. I settle him, wait with my hand on his chest til he's floppy limbed & heavy breathing, wait 10 mins, lighten my touch, wait 10 mins, remove hand, FFS wait another 10 mins & creep out. He STILL feckin wakes up minutes later. I cannot bloody sit there all night, though I may as well. Any ideas anyone? He knows when i've left even when fast asleep.

marushka82 · 21/01/2014 21:58

cake yup, still in Poland and still freezing! It was -13 this morning and not much warmer during the day so no walks for us... Like Artemis I find a walk the only fool proof way to get DD to sleep...
Managed to set DD down and when she started stirring gave her a dummy and rolled her to her side and so far so good... It's been an hour so far and she's still asleep. Fingers crossed she sleeps for a bit longer!
I suspect she has some sort of a yeast nappy rash, sudocreme and usual nappy rash creams do nothing, so will try and get her something antifungal tomorrow.
Eh, better try and get some sleep before the monster awakens!
Good luck everyone!
tired, I totally read your username as Tiredmama :)

Cakeismymaster · 21/01/2014 22:24

Evening all
Can't remember what went on last night but I know I was up 3-5am and there were 3 wake ups before the 3am awake fun..tiredness kicking in this week..wonder if my rod has been dispatched yet? ;-)
Anyway the 'must get her onto bottles' commenters were in full effect today..along with well you need to just not feed her at night and then she will feed more in the day..of course, why didn't I think of that?!? Biscuit

soupmaker · 21/01/2014 22:29

Another one who read Tired's name wrong!

IME good daytime naps definitely help, but are no silver bullet, with night time sleeping. My DD1 was a nightmare napper until about 9 months. I have no idea what I did to change her, but I spent a lot of time pushing her buggy and driving her about to get her to sleep for more than an hour.

Ironically DD2 is generally a good napper. She sleeps best in her cot, in a snowsuit which I think she now associates with sleep. Had her in it a few nights too - didn't bloody work. It works best if I put her down about 2 hours after she's woken from her last nap.

I think with DD1 I didn't really get her sleep cues until she was bonkers with tiredness. With DD2 the moment she gives her wee groan she's encouraged to sleep.

I have massive empathy for those of you wrestling with non nappers. It's a complete head feck. I at least get a peaceful cup of tea every day. (Please don't excommunicate me).

Here's hoping for peaceful nights.

cakebaby · 22/01/2014 07:46

Grin at bonkers with tiredness, that's me!

My ds is ok with naps, best when co-napping of course, another startlingly beautiful rod I've started whittling as I decided if I didn't sleep when he did once a day I might actually die of exhaustion.

So he now won't stay asleep after taking 2 hrs up put him down. Brilliant. DH wants a chat about it today....this is unlikely to end well....

Cakeismymaster · 22/01/2014 08:26

cakebaby I just did a wry chuckle about your DH wanting a chat about it today....I would say that likelyhood of one of those beautiful rods being shoved somewhere is high to very high? Wink these men really have no idea what it's like!
Last night pretty good here - 11.30, 2.30, 6.00 each time 30 mins up (feeding) - only change has been 2 days of dairy free diet..

Tiredemma · 22/01/2014 08:44

better night- woke once at 3.30 am- back asleep until 7am.

I guess im just going to have to accept that every night is a guessing game!

cakeis glad you had a better night

I am equally interested to see the outcome of cakebabys 'chat' with her DH. I gave up discussing sleep with my DP when it became apparent he secretly used earplugs at night. The shit.

OP posts:
cakebaby · 22/01/2014 08:58

cakeis rod ramming is almost a dead cert! I'm like a simmering cauldron atm so god help him. I think he knows that though.

tired so unpredictable isn't it? My DH has ear plugs & in spare room. He went to settle ds the other night, he had them in then too! AND when I spied on him with the monitor, he had picked up ds and was ROCKING HIM TO SLEEP!

FFS man, HOW MANY rods do you want me to have to wallop myself with?

Tiredemma · 22/01/2014 09:04

I just bluntly told DP that he was of no worth to me. He did indicate that he does lots of other stiff around the house (which to be fair, he does) but I dont want him to wash up, clean the bathroom, or put the bins out.

I want him to wake up through the night. Just as I do.

OP posts:
cakebaby · 22/01/2014 09:05

cakeis what prompted the dairy free? Refluxy baby? Is it all dairy or just 'raw' milk? clutches at tiny straw and squints at distant glimmer of hope

cakebaby · 22/01/2014 09:08

I know, mine thinks he's Heston for putting a pizza in the oven with self added mushrooms, I find him looking all smug and lapel polishing. Bless Hmm

Cakeismymaster · 22/01/2014 09:31

Bah mine did cooking for all of 1 week, now it's all 'what's for dinner' [punch icon]
Cake I'm trying dairy free as I think dd might have a cows milk protein allergy..waiting to see gp so in meantime am trying it - just no milk, eggs, cream, cheese, butter. Just so I can report effect to gp- although it's more direct to dd I was wanting checked - ready for weaning

soupmaker · 22/01/2014 09:48

CakeIs we were on the same schedule as you last night. Took DD2 a good half hour to settle after 2.30. Too much rolling about and getting stuck in cot bars!

Hmmm, don't fancy the chances if any DH or DP who wants a "chat" about sleep.

Mine knows that he cannot moan about anything within my hearing without the threat of rod insertion whilst I am sleep deprived and he is in the spare room getting 8 hours sleep without interruption.

On phone so can't recall whose DH was caught rocking the baby to sleep but I am Angry on your behalf.

cindyrella · 22/01/2014 10:06

Morning all!

I hear u on the dh/dp front!
Funnily enough since i started to try settle instead of feed causing crying which gets thru the earplugs on the couch he's getting on board the "we have to do something about this" bus... toot toot! Baa!

Hero decided to 'help' last weekend to settle dd & caught him talking to her. Not calm night soothing chat...just talking. FFS

So we had an up & down night. Slept 7:30-12am with no usual hour in wake up. Fed. Awake 1.5 hours later when i tried not ti feed...how could she be hungry? Yeah, that went down well. An hour later, on boob.

Poor little body convulsing with sobs while feeding then whimpering when being burped. Heart breaking. Then woke up & awake till 4am :(

cakebaby good luck with the chat. I'd love to be a fly on THAT wall hehe

marushka oh thats cold! I thought Scotland was bad enough!

We're doing better on naps. I can actually have cups of tea with cake now but took a lot of sitting by swing, bsck patting, forehead stroking & shushing thru crying to get there. Now understands routine. Pissed off hv says put in cot for nap now...thats NOT going to go down well!

Tiredemma · 22/01/2014 10:08

cindyrella

Y Y to tea and cake but dont forget your bath!! Smile

cindyrella · 22/01/2014 11:06

:)

ArtemisTheHunter · 22/01/2014 14:06

I'm sure I posted at about 3am but no idea where that post has gone. Unless I hallucinated it... Gist was, up every 90 minutes all night, shush pat, cuddles etc failed so boob to sleep each time, DP snored on. I might have speculated about whether he'd sleep any more quietly with a pillow lodged in his windpipe Grin. Cakebaby did your DH survive "the chat"? places order for new style extra-sharp rod

DD seems to sleep best on a cushion on the couch where DP took her at 7.30am Hmm Currently trying to get her to nap by feeding (again) after rocking etc just led to her screaming in my ear. I just don't understand how come she can't go to sleep! It never used to be a problem. I would feel a lot better about this if I could believe it will ever end...

cakebaby · 22/01/2014 18:36

Well here we go again.....

The chat.....started with a tentative inquiry by DH asking again when ds was going to be 'better'. And that's where it ended too. I nearly melted, such was my rage flush. He backed away, slowly....

ArtemisTheHunter · 22/01/2014 19:19

Grin cakebaby. It's a brave stupid man who asks a question like that.

I'm interested that so many of us let our OHs off the night-time parenting hook. My DP is capable of rocking DD to sleep but would rather dump her on me and claim she's hungry, and I never have the energy for a fight. The inequality is a major down side of BFing. Yes he has to get up for work but it's not exactly easy dealing with dd all day, and he had a fortnight off over xmas and it was no different then. Does anyone here take equal turns with their OH during the night?

I'm on the couch with dd asleep on me. I should go and put her in her cot but I just can't face the hassle when I know she'll wake up straight away.

Juvenilesuccess · 22/01/2014 19:20

Ooh, DP bashing - I'm in! Mine offered to take baby between 6-7 if she's awake. I must have given him a lukewarm response because he shouted that he'd be doing me a favour and I should be grateful! FFS.

Our night was a bit better. I'm embarrassed to say it but think it might because I turned the main light off. Blush I've invested in swaddles, apps, Euen the sheep, sheep skins, lavander smelly stuff, Marino wool sleep suits - the list goes on ... What if all this time I just needed to turn off the light.

soupmaker · 22/01/2014 19:38

Juvenile, that would be beyond ironic if all it takes is switching of the light! I leave a bedside light on so I don't make as much noise when going to be and it goes off then.

BFing is bloody knackering. It's not just the rubbish sleep that's making us tired. I really don't think any man can understand how exhausted we are.

To be fair my DH is pretty good. He cooks, does baths, helps DD1 with home work, gives me lie ins at the weekend, plays with DD2 as soon as he comes in from work, and will doing cleaning and tidying if pointed in the right direction.

I did have to break him in with DD1 though!

Both DDs in bed, DH away out to do a pal a favour, I'm lying on the sofa and considering just going to bed as feeling especially knackered tonight.

Think the rods are going to come in handy for getting DH/DPs into line.

cindyrella · 22/01/2014 19:55

Aye...its not babysittinf...its being a Dad!

juvenille that would be ahem 'funny'

GUESS WHAT??!!??!!?!?!???
I just put dd down...awake...kissed forehead "night night" walked away...waited for cry...thats weird why is she so quiet? Crept back in... She's only gone and put herself to sleep wtaf?
