I can see that that might put you off an area! We had to take dnephew to hospital (Gap, I think) one year, when he had appendicitis. They took them straight out, via keyhole, job done. Diagnosed in the morning, operated on just after lunch. Very efficient.

We've skiied in that area (Risoul/Vars/Les Orres) for the last 10 years or so and have never had insufficient snow, but I guess it might depend when you go. We've always, bar one New Year, gone in Feb.

puffylovett · 29/11/2015 17:19

Thanks caurnie that's brill :)

Lexatron · 29/11/2015 19:37

Don't usually buy this early (especially as we are going just before Easter) but this year with all the Black Friday deals I scoured the internet today and ordered all of the clothing for DC. Still came to a huge amount but a lo cheaper than they would have been.

Bought these socks for DD1 and DS1 as they were over 50% off!!

DD2 also got a new snowsuit as we never went skiing the year DD1 was 4.

Found a set on Cotswolds for £35!! here for DD1

Bought some other bits and bobs but that is the best stuff, thank goodness for good sales like this. Hopefully all will arrive soon!!

lovetoskimum · 30/11/2015 13:47

And I can't believe that it was 3 years ago that I was whingeing on here about having broken my leg 6 weeks before going away. I managed to get myself transported out there anyway (must have been insane) and partake in a bit of apres-ski. The following year I was absolutely terrified getting back on skis again, but managed to wobble down a few baby slopes in tears.
Last year, I was back to normal, although I now limit myself to safe blue runs and the occasional easy red. Life's too short for risking any more injuries (even if I did do the original damage on the stairs at home).

lovetoskimum · 30/11/2015 14:47

Clam, I wasn't on mn 3 years ago but well done for getting back into it, like you I love my crusie blues and an occasional red, leaving the blacks to hubby and daughter !! More time for me to relax in the sun drinking vin chaud !!

Can I join??
We have just booked Puy St Vincent for next year. they've hd a dump of snow already. Wish I was there now Smile

Trickydecision · 30/11/2015 15:47

Clam, prompted by your post about your broken leg, DH and I have just been reminiscing about that broken collarbone in Risoul.

First skiing morning of holiday: Accident ( DSs: Didn't you see the Slow Down signs, Dad? )
Day 2: operated on and shoulder pinned at the hospital. (Very impressed with food and even wine provided)
Day 3: brought back to the chalet in the evening and enjoyed being waited on hand and foot
Day 4: Was sensible and rested
Days 5 and 6: lost patience with confinement to barracks and rigged up some sort of insane sling with his rucksack and skied, defying all my remonstrations concerning further injury
Transfer day: Great amusement amongst rest of the chalet guests when the medics provided by the insurers turned up and insisted on stretchering him into their ambulance ready to be whisked off to the airport.

Skiers do hate not skiing

PestoSkiissimos · 30/11/2015 15:49

When are you going Flamingo?

PestoSkiissimos · 30/11/2015 15:52

I agree Tricky.

I skiied after breaking my collarbone in USA. Not on the same day though. I also did a bit of very shaky skiing in Verbier, a week after tearing my anterior cruciate ligaments in Courmayeur. I did wear a knee brace though.

Flamingobiingo · 30/11/2015 16:04

We are going in mid March so I'm a bit worried about the snow. Has anyone been to PSV at that time of year?? I'm not a fan of slush.
Our little boy will be in the baby ski school in the morning so I'll probably just ski in the morning then play with him in the afternoon Smile

PestoSkiissimos · 30/11/2015 16:19

I haven't skiied there before, but think your plan for skiing mornings sounds good, coz it's more likely to be slush in the afternoons if warm in March.

clam · 30/11/2015 17:51

Re: slush, it partly depends how high the resort is, along with whether the slopes are North-facing or not.

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 30/11/2015 18:31

Ooh ski thread, can I join? I love to ski (more than almost anything!)

We're off to Finland in 2.5 weeks.

puffylovett · 01/12/2015 00:40

I understand puy is high and snow sure at Easter, so you should be ok? I hope so.

massistar · 01/12/2015 10:12

We've got 3 days in the Dolomites coming up in 3 weeks. Hope it snows soon there! Not looking as white as France is at the mo!

LyndaNotLinda · 01/12/2015 13:48

I've got my email from Aldi and DS has chosen his helmet. I shall be there immediately after the school run on Thursday!

lovetoskimum · 01/12/2015 15:00

Welcome, to Flamingo and Don't, nice to meet you :)

Exciting stuff, walking to work this morning and popped into Sports Direct, helmet reduced from £70 to £24.99 :) Happy days, just need gloves and snow boots for daughter and sorted !!

Any more :)

Hello everyone - rejoining the ski thread, although under a different name from last year. Clam - we've spoken before about Les Orres and Vars / Risoul!

We are off just after Xmas for a week. Last year the best snow was in Vars (where I spent a bit of time in the Dr's after DB broke his knee) and Montgenevre. But also had fab skiing in PSt V and Les Orres. I'm also going for a girls weekend in March and out for a week at Easter. Can't wait!

The snow is coming down, but not yet as good in the southern resorts as the northern.

PestoSkiissimos · 01/12/2015 15:34

Three trips Radiatorvalves Shock Envy

lovetoskimum · 01/12/2015 16:09

Hi Radiatorvalves, nice to have you back, how are you managing 3 trips !! Very jealous !!!

Any more joining in :)

Gattabianca · 01/12/2015 16:18

Thanks for welcome and reassurance re: slush in PSV (I've name changed) Smile
We normally do big resorts like PdS so also a bit worried that we will have skied everywhere in Puy in a couple if days. But this holiday is all about DS as it will be his first week on skis. Really hoping he likes it. Week in the snow is the highlight of our year.
Would love to have three weeks Envy
I some great snow boots from decathlon for DS last year for about £5.

Radiatorvalves · 01/12/2015 16:19

Sorry guys! It is a major extravagance. Just been checking out the local season pass - €140 for the season!!!

We have a modest house in the valley, so we keep the costs down.

Tempted!

PestoSkiissimos · 01/12/2015 16:23

Love your new name Gattabianca, I have one of those!

Happy Skiing Thread Part 2!!
Trickydecision · 01/12/2015 16:29

Loveto yes I popped into Spirts Direct too this morning and got a Nevica helmet for big grandson's Christmas present. Someone on another thread mentioned these, so it saved dashing into Aldi on Thursday. We are going away for two weeks on Friday (not skiing though) so I am trying to avoid last minute shopping.

By the way, how did you get on at your Parents' Evening when you were going to tell them about keeping the kids off school?
