I've been looking at Whistler Village Inn and Suites. Looks good. I'll be very interested to hear what you say.

sweary thanks for the insider knowledge.

Soo busy at work I'd better actually get off here and work

wonders about the loss of productivity attributable to mumsnet

Twistmyarm · 03/02/2016 13:30

Can I join you?
My DD is running a chalet in La Plagne and we're going out for a week, staying in her chalet.
I'm slightly apprehensive about the other guests and DDS cooking, although she says she's nailed it.
Do I need to start collecting mouldy mugs to hide under the bed for her to find? Grin.
She's reporting loads of snow but not too cold so fingers crossed.

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 03/02/2016 17:32

I love La Plagne (and les Arc), some great runs down to the various villages and over the back.

Tell your daughter that a bathroom looks clean if you polish the taps. Apparently Grin.

Twistmyarm · 03/02/2016 17:57

Wink I think she's learned some cleaning tips, seems to be out of the chalet by 10am everyday.
Hoping she won't stand at the bottom of a run with her arms crossed, rolling her eyes waiting for her slow but quite stylish I pretend DM.

Apparently it's snowing hard right now.

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 03/02/2016 19:20

OMG I'm so jealous. I'm kidding myself I can have my ski gap year when I'm 60! .... like to think experience would triumph and I could spend most of the day skiing.

My husband goes on a boys trip tomorrow and he's currently waving the forecast at me as he dances around sing "powder"

Alibabsandthe40Musketeers · 03/02/2016 19:29

Why am I not on this??

We go on Friday!! Driving to Les Gets for a week. There is a lot of snow..

dontcall please tell your hubby to be careful. Lots of friends on the continent have said there is unease about the snow this year as the conditions have been so variable - the snow base is unstable.

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 03/02/2016 19:33

A very good point, very true. Thanks for the reminder - I'm going to text the others too!

MrsGuyOfGisbo · 03/02/2016 19:42

Also had a chat today with DS about the unstable base layer! Which was the reason I wasn't going until he melted me with his lovely brown eyes Grin have said we will only go on-piste/on open pistes/ and control speed... Well, I've tried...

nenehooo · 03/02/2016 21:24

I've been reading this thread longingly while my DH makes up his bloody mind about whether to book or not... But now it's a GO!
Snowboarding in Val Thorens at Easter!
Have booked DD into ESF club piou piou and they've assured me that if she hates skiing on the first day she can go in the nursery (she's 3).
Really hoping she has a good time - we're feeling guilty that we'll be leaving her with strangers all morning. Last time we went snowboarding we had my parents with us and they looked after her.
I'm being ridiculous and PFB aren't I?!

User543212345 · 03/02/2016 21:44

Have any of you been on an avalanche safety course? We did Henry's Avalanche Talk a few years back and spent a day with him in Val d'Isere. It's really enlightening on how to stay safe even in the highest risk conditions. That said I'm not even going to bother taking my transceiver/shovel/probe when we go in a few weeks - there's a really weak layer in the snowpack and there will always be some douchebag who ignores the rules and puts others' safety at risk. Happy sticking to the piste this year.

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 04/02/2016 06:35

I used to put both my kids in childcare (ski school then crèche or nanny) and ski all day. Sounds like you're being very nice!

In my defence I work part time, we don't use any clubs on a summer holiday if we get one , skiing is what mummy does!

Twistmyarm · 04/02/2016 06:58

Do any of you struggle with sleeping in the mountains?

Don't think I've ever had a good nights sleep skiing. Not sure if it's the altitude, hot chalet, too much wine or what, but I'm always physically exhausted but just cannot sleep well.

User543212345 · 04/02/2016 10:41

Gosh yes I never sleep well when we're skiing. I always blame the booze and the heat in the chalet but I think the altitude is also an issue. It's suggested that in order to sleep well at altitude you need to avoid alcohol, which just isn't likely to happen on a chalet holiday is it. As a result I've become queen of the naprés. Sometimes it even edges out the aprés.

Iamblossom · 04/02/2016 11:05

booze, heat, strange bed, boys snuffling in bunk beds not far away in hotel room, DH never finding the loo and needing me to turn fricking light on....Yup, skiing is knackering.

64 inches of snow forecast for Tignes next week! Whoops!!

Twistmyarm · 04/02/2016 14:08

Just had a quick google, looks like fairy is right about cutting down booze. Another tip was 2 Nurofen just before bed on the first night. Might try that although a napre sounds appealing.

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 04/02/2016 14:12

64 inches of snow forecast for Tignes next week! OMG. I want to go!... I've got to wait until 3rd March Envy

MrsGuyOfGisbo · 04/02/2016 14:44

Love the look of the forecast!
DH leaving for work today asked me if I knew what the forecast was (ie in London).
Just managed to avoid saying, 'No - but I can tell you the hourly forecast for the next 3 days for Meribel, and the daily forecast there the following 7 days...' obsessed - moi?
He is not coming with me & DS, so would not have gone down well Grin

Tigresswoods · 04/02/2016 14:54

For those going to France in half term it looks like a lot of snow is forecast!

I'm obsessing about it right now, we were so lucky last year, sunshine everyday. DS has not skied in driving blizzards. Should be interesting!

MyFriendsCallMeOh · 04/02/2016 15:05

Just saw this thread, sitting on the tarmac in Houston Texas ready to fly to Salt Lake City Utah and then a short drive to Park City. So much snow, v excited. Skiing booked, also snowmobiling, dog sledding, tubing, snow showing.....

No, no, NO!!!! The snow has to come the week BEFORE half term, leaving us glorious sunshine and deep powder to make up for the fact that we have to battle the crowds during the school holidays.

Angry
MrsGuyOfGisbo · 04/02/2016 19:19

clam Grin

Twistmyarm · 04/02/2016 20:33

I think you'll be in luck Clam, snow everyday next week so there will be lovely soft powder at half term.
don't foot stamp too hard in those ski boots

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 04/02/2016 22:09

What did Hobbledehoo have to say? Was it interesting?

trixymalixy · 04/02/2016 22:11

We're off on Saturday. I can't wait!! Looks like there's going to be precipitation all week. It looks like it'll be warm though so we're praying for snow rather than rain!
