It's always fun to see if you can spot another MNer on the slopes Wink

Well, guy I feel as if this trip is doomed. First we had dh's knee which is very troublesome, then dd's bashed finger, then I put my back out this weekend (am technically "fixed" by the osteo but it's still sore) and now there's disruptive snow forecast here for the next few days, which might bugger up our flights. Angry
Wish I could relax about the whole thing.

Sad clam hope works out okay - our last trip was a nightmare with blizzards, me backing into a concrete post and having to drive 800 miles home without a back window and with a clutch that was on its last legs, and various other tribulations, but what doesn't kill you is supposed to make you stronger - bon courage!!! Grin

Hi Clam

hope you have a good trip...web cams look great. Risoul I think? We're going there at Easter, and booking the lessons is not easy. Can't find a number for ESF, and they have not replied to emails. Grrr.

Happy skiing all!

Can any of you ski mums suggest a good resort to go to in italy or Austria as from next year we will be limited to school hols and want to avoid France at Feb half term. Want a largest resort, to be close to lifts and decent ski school and lunchtime child care is a must for DD who will be 5 and DS 8. Don't want to bust the budget so Esprit and similar companies are out as other DS is 12 and counts as an adult. We will drive and happy to self cater. Thanks

We're going to Pass Thurn in Austria in the second week of March. We've booked flights, and will hire a car there. We're staying in a lovely quiet hotel in Hollersbach. We book it all ourselves. We've done this for the past two years, and it has worked out very well.

CaurnieBred · 15/02/2012 12:39

IWishICouldThinkOfAFabName: We went to Selva this year with Esprit. I know you don't want to go with them but I just wanted to let you know about the ski school - they have their own lunch area in the ski school and the Esprit kids who were in all-day lessons (about 5 of them) were taken back there for their lunch (a member of the Esprit staff went there to supervise). It was this one. I'm sure the Dolomites would be large enough for you. I loved the terrain (just felt a bit more thought could have gone into the actual links - lots of cable cars/holding skis. Not sure what the drive there would be like though. And this gives some apartment ideas. Not that cheap but nowhere during half term is I suppose.

CaurnieBred : Thanks Selva is definately on my want to go to list. However, we have justed booked to go to Austria for next year ( 2013 !). A resort that is supposedly 'relatively undiscovered by the Brits' so hoping it won't be too packed as the German and Austrian holidays are the week before UK half term next year.
First time skiing at Feb half term so we self catering and driving. Will miss the luxury of a catered chalet but the cost of renting a 2 bed 100m2 apartment in Austria for a week is less than one adult price with Espirt or equivalent company for the Feb half term week. So massively cheaper for a family of 5! We booked direct with the owner and all of February tends to be the same high season price - but no half term extra, extra peak price like you get with the English Tour operators.
Off to La Plagne in 6 weeks........hope good snow stays !

Back from an amazing week in Saas Fee with Family Ski Company - excellent childcare, not a worry for us parents, our most relaxing ski holiday yet (post children!)

BNmum · 29/02/2012 20:49

How did you get on in St. Anton OneLieIn? We're off on 25 March.
This will be our first ski holiday with DS (1) and i'm getting nervous about how he'll settle in at the creche. I've recently started back at work PT and he's started going to nursery which has unsettled him alittle.
Has anyone been to Chalet Pepi Gabl this season?

mulranno · 02/03/2012 20:17

Iwishicouldthinkofabname...have a look at Vaujany - really authentic Alpine village so lifts etc not busy and highly regarded nursery - but links into big ski domain of Grande Rousse....lots of lovely property to rent - we have a newly rennovated lodge sleeps 6 which I would be happy to share the details of if you PM me..

TeaTowelQueen · 05/03/2012 13:18

Anyone just back from 3V area? Going to Valmeinier/Valloire next week so hoping snow still good....

First ski trip with DS(3) so very excited round here :)
