It's always fun to see if you can spot another MNer on the slopes Wink

Thanks Viva, if that's your recommendation, will do! We will also probably book an instructor/guide for just the two of us, at least a couple of morning. Did that one time before (in Tignes I think) and it was sooooooo much more worthwhile in the improvement to our skiing than I've ever noticed as part of a ten-strong ski school group. Worth the £££ (can't find the euro symbol...). Do you know Les Arcs enough to recommend an instructor / ski school office?

Trying to work out if I can afford to go at Feb 1/2 term and work enough extra hours to take the time off in lieu. DD started secondary school so this will be the first time I have not felt ok to take kids out of school for a few days. They have been twice, to Les Contamines, where I worked a season as a chalet girl 22 years ago! Before that we had a 9 year gap. I really would love to go but after break-up with dh this year I would be skiing on my own a lot, so a bit unsure if the money would be better spent on a different holiday...how can I be saying that? Confused

VivaLeBeaver · 12/12/2011 16:27

Lexi - New Generation are a good ski school but they're based in Vallandray, not in the main Les Arcs. But if you are in Vallandray they're worth booking.

Les Arcs 1950 have a ski school called Spirit 1950 who are linked with Evolution 2. I've not used Spirit but I prefer Evolution 2 to ESF normally. All the Les Arcs have an ESF.

not me, but DS is going to Austria in Feb skiing with a group from school. His first time skiing. Gulp.

pinkem · 12/12/2011 20:56

Obergurgl, Austria on Saturday Xmas Grin Very excited.

orienteerer · 12/12/2011 21:03

Nope, sadly not this year. Usually go to Austria 'this' week before ChristmasXmas Sad.

StuckInTheFensAwayFromHome · 12/12/2011 21:05

Banff for me as well... All of february and march :)

Ungratefulchild · 12/12/2011 21:13

Morzine in January, going on my own and doing a women only ski course :)
i've been really ill this year and this is both a treat for me and an incentive to get fit again.

CaurnieBred · 13/12/2011 13:49

Selva in January with Esprit. It finally snowed last night thank God! My first time to Italy.

weblette · 13/12/2011 14:04

Tignes Val Claret on Saturday!!! Really good snow and heaps more forecast for this week. Now just have to find everything while getting all the Christmas stuff done...

We're going with Directski.com for the first time. Price was so much lower than anywhere else we could find and so far customer service has been good. Will update on return Xmas Smile

Piffpaffpoff · 13/12/2011 14:09

Glenshee and Cairngorm, ASAP!! Already scoping out babysitters for week two of the Christmas holdays. Am the only skier in the family so far (although ds is learning) so a foreign trip is unlikely for me sadly. Boo.

VivaLeBeaver · 13/12/2011 14:34

Caurnie - DH and DD went to Selva with Esprit a few years ago and really liked it.

Lexilicious · 13/12/2011 14:36

Thanks Viva. We're staying in 2000 so Evolution/Spirit probably the better options for us.

massistar · 13/12/2011 14:46

Samoens in February, cannot wait! Fully catered chalet for the first time as well, yeeeha!

Piff.. I learned to board at Glenshee, fabulous in the right conditions which there hopefully will be given the last couple of years.

IwishIwasmoresparkly · 13/12/2011 21:19

Morzine next week and Ardent on 21st January Grin

I'm very lucky!

CaurnieBred · 14/12/2011 10:07

Thanks VLeB - DD(7) isn't happy with it as, for her level, she needs to go into ski school all day but I am really looking forward to it. Last year was our first trip with Esprit (to Obergurgl) and she absolutely adored the snow club in the afternoon and sulked if we tried to prize her away to ski. She isn't going to have that option this year!

FreeButtonBee · 16/12/2011 15:18

Meribel in Feb. I am SOOOOOO excited. It's been 3 long years since I was last skiing. I am alrady obsessively checking the weather forecast and webcams. I may never come back...

weblette · 16/12/2011 21:58

Just about packed - after a last minute salopette crisis Xmas Grin Tons of snow about hooray!

PatriciaHolm · 18/12/2011 17:45

We're in sainte foy now and I have never seen do much snow here - probably about 5 feet of the stuff!

deste · 18/12/2011 21:31

La Rosiere will be the same I presume. There doesn't seem to be so much in Thuile. We are going on the 22 of January.

weblette · 19/12/2011 08:58

Tignes is caked out with the stuff, the Tarantaise has had the same amount of snow in 2 weeks as the whole of last season. The storm the other night added another metre and it's still snowing now, hooray!

weblette · 19/12/2011 09:00

deste La Ros has well over a metre in resort and close to 2m on top.

AsinineLadiesDancing · 19/12/2011 09:13

We're going to Scotland in New Year. Last few seasons have been great, The Lecht is especially child friendly.

snowmummy · 19/12/2011 15:38

Morzine/Avoriaz mid Jan on my own. Cannot wait.

deste · 19/12/2011 17:56

Thank you weblette.
