Because I love it as it is.

Of course ther is always room for a little improvement BUT it works very well for me as is.

I just really don't understand why people have such a problem with 'chatty' threads, as has already been said, just don't read them!!! Most weeks I go 7 or 8 hours a day without hardly speaking to another adult, so it is nice to feel I come and have a chat with my 'cyber friends'. Surely, the support and friendship you can get here is just as important as any other area of Mumsnet?

Thank you ks
My ds is only 8 months, so even if I'd found mumsnet the split second I did the pg test I would still be classed as a new member.
At 26 maybe I'm younger than the majority - a lot seem to be in their mid 30s - but as more folks have sprogs and more mums are online anyway - it's surely kind of inevitable that newer contributers won't hark back to the good old days cos they weren't there in the first place!
The chat threads would wither and die if there was noone to contribute so there's obviously a place for them too - and why not on mumsnet?

ScummyMummy · 15/05/2003 14:03

Yes- there are definitely echoes of the lifecycle of a mailing list aren't there????????
Mum2Toby- I'm sorry that you have been singled out here and are upset. I think it's because you are a popular, opinionated and prolific poster with a penchant for friendly chat and idiosyncratic punctuating at the end of sentences!!!!!!!!!! And, frankly, those things don't appeal to everyone. For example, I personally have a phobia of multiple exclaimation or question marks and am not very sociable at times. However, I feel this is my problem, not yours and get round it by only looking at more chatty threads when I'm in the mood. I think this is the only solution really so I will fight for your right to chat and exclaim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dahlia · 15/05/2003 14:04

BobsMum, well said! I totally agree with you. I consider myself to be a fairy intelligent normal kind of person, and I certainly enjoy reading the chattier threads as much as the serious ones. The number of times I have sat here and actually wet myself laughing! and then read something deep and serious and had a little cry, and then read something that has annoyed me intensely and made me get up from the chair and yell at the screen. Now to me, THAT is what its all about. A little bit of everything, and I enjoy contributing to whatever takes my fancy at any given time. So there.

Mum2Toby · 15/05/2003 14:22

katierocket · 15/05/2003 14:31

not much new to add except to say (like so many posters) - if a thread doesn't appeal, don't read it. I personally love the mix of serious and lighthearted. And don't be so personal lil, M2T has provided some fantastic supportive advice to other mumsnetters, live and let live

and eat grapes

Mum2Toby · 15/05/2003 14:33

I've taken my medication so it shouldn't happen again for a couple of hours. Come back Scummy! (see, just one exclamation mark)

meanmum · 15/05/2003 14:37

I have to stand beside M2T again as I use exclamation marks and question marks loads. They're my way of putting smiley faces on. Yes, I am thick because even though this site tells you how to do them I continue to fail and have now given up. Well, actually it's the loss of memory which is why I can't do them, I read the notes but by the time I go to post one I've forgotten what it said.

Mum2Toby · 15/05/2003 14:44

Bobbins - the Mums Arms is in full flow. That's all I came here to say.

SoupDragon · 15/05/2003 15:23

Didn't multiple punctuation marks appear on the "things that make you go AAAAGGHHHH!" thread a little while back? Or was it on the grammar thread...

(eeek! I remember ...s appearing as an Aaagghhhh! thing too!)

M2T - GET SOME WORK DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mum2Toby · 15/05/2003 15:46

Sorry. Am I supposed to be upset about something else that's been said about me now???????????????????????????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's such a comfort to know that my real friends don't find fault in everything I do.

I just hope the fact that people seem to have taken a dislike to me won't affect the responses I get when I ask for advice.

Tinker · 15/05/2003 15:49

er dunno. Are you?

Mum2Toby · 15/05/2003 15:51

I think I was supposed to be upset about the punctuation comments. I though they were a joke but the more I think about it..... I think it was a real dig at me. And perhaps Bobbins comments were too. I'm so feckin' paranoid now i can't distinguish between jokes and hurtful digs.

Tinker · 15/05/2003 15:56

All affectionate jokes, I assure you No digs.

meanmum · 15/05/2003 15:57

I'm sure they're a joke. I thought they were. Don't take it personally. We all still love you but if you want I'm happy to pick on you to keep the paranoia alive. Anyway, if you're being paranoid I should be to as I do nearly everything you do but just haven't had my name up in lights yet. Actually, maybe I should be jealous and not paranoid.

Mum2Toby · 15/05/2003 15:58

I know yours are Tinker.
