Would you be interested in hosting a Mumsnet stall at The Baby Show Oct 17th-19th?

Still a hypothetical question at the moment, but we might have the chance of a small stand at The London Earl's Court Baby show this Oct 17th-19th and we wondered if any Mumsnetters would be interested in being Mumsnet ambassadors, handing out fliers, talking to baby show visitors about the site and showing them how it works on a laptop or two.

We'd need someone to coordinate the three days (although that person wouldn't necessarily need to be there for the three days) and probably three or four volunteers for each day. Ideally at least a couple of the volunteers would be able to bring a wireless adapted laptop.

If noone fancies it, that's not a problem. But we did this once before in Birmingham and the folks that took part seemed to have had a good time so we thought we'd ask.

If you're interested in principle, please post here, just so we know if it's an idea worth pursuing.

Thanks all

Hi, I've just been to Clarion's website- they organise pretty much all the big shows in the uk, not just defence and security. I feel that the majority of people who would go to the baby show would go regardless of who did the organising.
They also organise art and antiques fairs and caravan and motor home fairs. Are those also considered to be detrimental to image of mn?

zippitippitoes · 02/10/2008 12:38

but there has been/is an ongoing hooha at them purchasing these arms fairs in 2008

psychomum5 · 02/10/2008 12:56

I think you having a stall there would be a Good Thing.

Not least because it will go ahead regardless of your feelings, and your feelings can only be shared in any way by mumsnet and your members sharing said info.

SOOOOOOOOooooooo

Surely going to the babyshow and maybe gaining more members (what am I talking about, of course you will gain more members, why wouldn;t they come here, here is FABULOUS), is the way forward regarding educating people about things that are/maybe suspect.

I mean, I would never have heard why nestle was such an issue without MN.

and besides, DH has given me the yes nod to go......

zippitippitoes · 02/10/2008 12:59

i think you need a new thread on this should munsent get into bed with arms dealers or summat

zippitippitoes · 02/10/2008 13:01

missmuddle · 02/10/2008 20:52

i could volunteer for a couple of hours standing and i am nice and friendly and promise not to drink wine, be bitchy etc - but would have to bring dc3

Flamebat · 02/10/2008 21:03

don't think you did!

Flamebat · 02/10/2008 21:03

oh yeah, i'll behave n stuff

HRHSaintMamazon · 02/10/2008 21:09

My opinion for what it's worth is this.
Clarion organise a fair. they sort out the venue, lights, carpets, cleaners etc.
They then INVITE companies to attend and hold a stall there.

they do not buy or sell the arms. they are responsible for the wooden stall's the guns are displayed on but nothing else.

and for that reason i see no need for us to pull out.

that and cos i would love to come and join in and get to meet some of you and nosey around teh show

TinkerBellesMum · 08/10/2008 17:00

I'm going to be in London that weekend so would happily help out.

TinkerBellesMum · 08/10/2008 17:03

Of course I will be available for the Birmingham one too (just reading through the thread)

TinkerBellesMum · 08/10/2008 17:18

I'm going Friday to Sunday too so can fit in with you. Was going anyway, didn't realise it was the weekend of the show.

Flamebat · 08/10/2008 17:19

Do we have a decision yet MNHQ?

JustineMumsnet · 08/10/2008 18:15

Soon. Promise!

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 08/10/2008 18:46

pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase say yes

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 08/10/2008 18:48

decision

TinkerBellesMum · 08/10/2008 18:57

I was just looking at the website and remembering the ahem wonderful AK talk. If we go do we have to promise to stay away and not try to do a BLW heckle?

I wasn't allowed to heckle at the Birmingham one cause I had my SIL and mum with me

SuperPsychoFabioSaver · 09/10/2008 12:28

any news???

Jux · 09/10/2008 12:41

FWIW it only requires a good man to do nothing for bad things to happen (paraphrasing madly here). In this case I think a good man doing nothing is equivalent just sitting back and going because the stall's already booked and hey it might be fun.

Peachy · 09/10/2008 12:46

Mamzon it did get beyomd the arms thing though didnt it? Or was that sorted out? lack of disabled facillities for example

I'm not sure what I think of the arms thing, probably avoid as ultimately they profit from it, but it was the toehr stuff that rankled with me TBH
