Android app issue - back button

spiderlight · 08/08/2026 18:08

Is anyone else having issues with the 'back' button on their phone booting them out of Mumsnet altogether when using the Android app? It normally takes me back to 'Active' but it's just started closing the app entirely. I'm on a Pixel 7, if that's relevant.

Have you tried clearing your MN cache?

spiderlight · 08/08/2026 21:51

No, but good call - thanks. It's stopped doing it now though.

Mine was doing this. Also have the comments box at the bottom covering half of last post on threads.

annonymousnamechange · 08/08/2026 22:12

I cantsnt seem to go back at all. Just nothing happens and I end up pressing the active conversations button to get anything to happen. It's very frustrating do any suggestions? And how do i clear my cache (bit of a luddite here..)

oppsididitagainandagain · 08/08/2026 22:25

Yip me too

ThaneOfGlamis · 08/08/2026 22:54

Driving me mad! On Samsung browser, not the app. I have cleared cache etc, which just meant I had to log back to everything, but didn't make the back button work.

Nopeasinapasty · 09/08/2026 03:10

Same here - Samsung phone using chrome browser. Not happening on any other site, just mumsnet

PaperScissorsBlock · 09/08/2026 03:13

Same. Samsung browser

OutOfTheOtherSide · 09/08/2026 04:21

Yep, me too. Also on Samsung. I've tried restarting, running updates etc and nothing works.

OutOfTheOtherSide · 09/08/2026 04:22

Does anyone from Mumsnet read this thread? No idea how you report a tech fault?

1984Winston · 09/08/2026 06:53

So glad you posted this as driving me mad and thought I was doing something wrong!

TulipsMakeMeHappy · 09/08/2026 07:37

Me too. Chrome browser on Android phone. I did wonder if MN are trying to do something to get around the Google "back-button hijacking" SEO changes, but if so they haven't succeeded!

LewishamTeacher · 09/08/2026 07:41

Same here. Samsung using chrome browser.

ImaniMumsnet · 09/08/2026 12:20

Hi all,

Thank you for flagging this and we are sorry that this is happening! We have flagged it to our Tech team who will be able to take a look at this first thing tomorrow. We will keep you updated but please do let us know if anything gets worse in the meantime.

Me too, exactly the same

JoMumsnet · 09/08/2026 16:39

Hi again,

Please can we check that you're all using the latest version of the Android app? It should be showing as 45.3.11 - this was released a few days ago to reduce crashing and other errors.

To get the update, you'll need to fully close the app and then reopen it.
You can do this by following these steps:

  • Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and hold for a moment (or tap the Recent Apps button if you're using the navigation buttons)
  • Find our app in the list of open apps
  • Swipe the app up and off the top of the screen to close it completely. Alternatively, you can tap Close all to close every open app
  • Wait a few seconds, then reopen the app

When you reopen the app, it may take a little longer than usual to load while the update is applied.

Please let us know if this helps resolve things. Thanks in advance.

LewishamTeacher · 09/08/2026 17:19

I don't use the app, just the website.

MistyMountainTop · 09/08/2026 19:16

I'm using it on the browser, not the app

Nopeasinapasty · 09/08/2026 20:01

On chrome browser, not the app

OutOfTheOtherSide · 09/08/2026 20:41

Yep, me too, it's the browser not the app.

annonymousnamechange · 09/08/2026 21:06

Also on the browser, not the app.

CanTheWorldSlowDownPlease · 09/08/2026 21:10

Another one here on the Chrome browser, thought I was going mad!

notthe1Parrot · 09/08/2026 21:34

On Edge too.

AmeliaPMumsnet · 10/08/2026 11:03

Hi all,

Thanks for your patience and sorry this is happening. It looks like there's a couple of different issues here, so we'll try and address everything separately.

For those of you who are using the Android app.

  1. @spiderlight & @Lathemistress One of you mentioned that this issue with the back button now seems to be resolved. It could have been caused by the site being extra busy. Can I check if it's still resolved for you and let me know if it isn't?
  2. @Lathemistress Thanks for flagging the issue with the comment box covering replies. There's another thread about this here. We'll post there with any updates so might be worth keeping an eye on it.
AmeliaPMumsnet · 10/08/2026 11:07

And for those of you who are having issues with the back button not working in your browser, could you please let me know if the issue is persisting for you this morning?

If it’s still happening, could you please try clearing your cache if you haven’t done so already? Here are some instructions depending on which browser you’re using:

Samsung Internet

  1. Open the Samsung Internet browser.
  2. Tap the menu icon (☰) at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Select Personal browsing data, then Delete browsing data.
  5. Make sure Cached images and files is selected.
  6. Tap Delete data and confirm.

Google Chrome

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Tap the three dots (â‹®) in the top right hand corner.
  3. Tap Delete browsing data.
  4. Choose a suitable Time range - selecting All time will clear the full cache, and is probably the best option.
  5. Make sure Cached images and files is selected.
  6. Tap Delete data.

Thanks for your patience!
