Disabled private messages

Are pms disabled for everyone, or just me? Anyone know why?

@BeckyAMumsnet could we please get an update? Will the pm system be reinstated and if so, is there a likely timeframe? Thanks

Hard agree. Private messaging can be a lifeline for all sorts of reasons, and it would be a travesty if the actions of a depraved individual led to the permanent or sustained loss of this function.

Sorry for assuming it might not be back - didn’t want to alarm anyone. I can’t see how they can stop links being sent in PMs though. They could perhaps turn off PMs by default and you have to allow it in your settings yourself (rather than the other way around as it currently is). Perhaps put a warning not to click on links from unknown users.

I'm missing my PM pal hugely! No other way to contact them other than through PMs.
Does anyone know if X (twitter) have a decent PM system. Maybe I can locate them on there?

Yes you can DM on X and it's equally as good. Not sure how easy you will be able to find them though!

It's unfortunate that MumsNet haven't released a further update or expected timeframe for PM's to be reactivated? @BeckyAMumsnet may be able to help?

Hi, everyone. We are sorry that PMs are still suspended, we know it's an inconvenience (and we'd take a wild guess that's part of the attacker's aims). The work we are doing to protect users is taking some time and isn't something we can rush, unfortunately. We'll be sure to update you as soon as we're able.

Could things be changed so that someone has to have made a certain amount of public posts before they can post photos, links or send private messages @BeckyAMumsnet?

All being well, we should have things in place by Friday but of course will let you know once PMs are back on.

I'm not X literate really but have discovered that you have to 'allow' people to DM you. I'm putting this up in the hope my MN pal sees it and 'allows' me to DM!

Yeah this. ^ @BeckyAMumsnet Maybe re-instate PMs for people who have been a member for a minimum of 2 months, or maybe even 1 month, and have a minimum of 50 posts... Something like that.

A 1-2 month membership is OK. No-one needs to PM anyone (or receive PMs) when they have only just joined. I mean I don't PM anyone/speak to anyone via PM, but clearly some people use the function quite a bit, so maybe think of something like this.......?

Agree with minimum timeframe and number of posts t&c's for active membership. A similar framework used to be in place for the sex board, and honestly, it's just another little deterrent which (IMO) had an impact. Of course, those who are determined to wreak havoc still will, but a lot just won't be bothered enough (I hope!)

I don't use PM's a lot but I do want the ability to be able to, if needed.

I'm glad it's been disabled. The only pms I got were from pervy men

I’d rather the current PM system be disabled so a better system can be put in place so I think it’s best to be patient. Being a member for xyz amount of time before being allowed to send PMs sounds like a great idea.

And a number of forum posts - at least over 10 posts, preferably much more. Seems a bit much maybe but it makes the unscrupulous work much harder to cause disruption, perhaps to the point they won’t bother?
