Virus scam appearing only when on Mumsnet

Just wondering if anyone else has had this?
As in the title I'm getting frequent "warnings", supposedly from McAfee, claiming I've got various viruses and inviting me to click a link (not done of course)

I don't use McAfee anyway and they're not from them - their site has images of a common scam which matches these - but it only happens when I'm clicked onto Mumsnet

Anyone know what's happening by any chance?

Yup, getting black pages here and had previous virus warnings

IwantToRetire · 20/01/2025 20:08

Today is just hopeless to try and use the site.

Dont have the time to note every occurance, but blank pages, virus scams, notifications not working, ....

Has somebody tried to patch in a fix and it has only not helped but made it worse.

Surely by now someone has diagnosed the issue.

Its just getting impossible - and a big embarrassment to @MNHQ

@LilyMumsnet @HebeMumsnet
Here you go... it's really random, maybe around 1 in 20-30 page opens.

Getting this again today. Comes in as a plain white page after you get a couple of screens into the post. Also got the mcaffee fake popup thing.

Specifically on this page from the newsletter.

Ironically I'm now getting the blank screen in this thread?

When are you going to sort it MNHQ or are you just hopping not enough people are being inconvenienced ?

notthe1Parrot · 20/01/2025 20:59

12 times in the hour that I've been on here. Will have to leave this site for tonight and try again tomorrow,

Greybeardy · 20/01/2025 21:19

same here.

WhenSallymetBarry · 20/01/2025 22:07

same here. About 1 minute after looking at threads. Freezes, screen goes blank and my pc tells me there is a virus. It's asking me to start a scan.

I know this isn't 'real' as we have a scan going on regularly.

There's something corrupt on the MN site.

pusskins06 · 20/01/2025 22:07

And here Either the DDOs page or blank pages Blank pages now coming up every few minutes! Incredibly frustrating Mumset needs to sort it or they will lose an awful lot of users 😡

WhenSallymetBarry · 20/01/2025 22:08

Also got the mcaffee fake popup thing.

this too.

WhenSallymetBarry · 21/01/2025 10:52

and it's worse today. Obviously a traffic overload issue as it's worse now than early monring.

QueryA · 21/01/2025 12:44

@BeckyAMumsnet @HebeMumsnet @JoMumsnet @LilyMumsnet
And again. Sigh. After 11 pages of comments, are you not able to do something about this?

On Opera - also been getting the McAfee warning for several days and now getting blank page as well.

CaveMum · 21/01/2025 15:36

Constant blank page on laptop using Edge now. I can only get on using Safari on my iPad/iPhone.

Uricon2 · 21/01/2025 16:22

I'm getting the scam McAfee warning and pages suddenly going blank, happening over last approx 4 days with increasing frequency, only on MN.

Chrome, desktop.

Yes, mid/late afternoon seems worse (not on usually in evening so no idea about then)

NotTheFreudYoureLookingFor · 21/01/2025 16:25

Happening to me too. Chrome, desktop.

EmmaStone · 21/01/2025 16:53

Getting the same message shown in first page of this thread, and also white screen, most recently on this page. Working on a Windows laptop using Chrome.

TiramisuCheesecake · 21/01/2025 17:01

Still happening although it has moved on from the "McAffee" span into something AVG is catching. Seriously though MN, sort it out

I'm getting so many blank pages at the moment. Half way through reading a page and it goes blank and I have to refresh the page. It's becoming a battle of how far can I get down the page before it does it again.

Part of me is hoping this is a forward step towards resolving the spam popup as it doesn't end up on the spammy webpage at least now.

It is highly annoying though and is making me want to step away for a while.

Greybeardy · 21/01/2025 17:43

the site is getting worse by the day with blank pages, robot alerts and Mcaffee spam and has been pretty much un-useable today. Will probably improve my real-life productivity though so maybe it'll turn out to be a blessing! Checking out for a while.

IwantToRetire · 21/01/2025 18:37

Its now so bad I cant even read the posts from today on this thread, as each time a move my mouse the page disappears.

Just hopeless.

Have only be on site less than half an hour, and not one I have a notification for has displayed properly.

What's the point of bothering to log in.

TheWorminLabyrinth · 21/01/2025 19:31

I have been getting this for a few days now. I thought it was my PC - clearly not!

Like others, it is the MCAfee pop-up, trying to take me to another page and saying my device is infected. I'm using chrome, on a desktop, and it only happens on MN.

TrumptyDumpty · 21/01/2025 19:44

I'm getting the same blank pages and virus warnings. Am using Chrome on a laptop. So frustrating!

PandoraSox · 21/01/2025 19:51

I just got the robot thing.

Mumsnet is becoming unusable.

Badbadbunny · 21/01/2025 20:01

Still terrible today. I've been trying to look at one thread but get the virus warning after a few seconds every time I click on the thread. MN really need to get to grips with this. It must be one of the ads, so surely they can just check the ads and remove the virus one. Surely it's not rocket science.
