This started about 3 weeks ago with constant crashing. Now it’s freezing too and taking ages to load,

It's been happening on and off for me for ages. Pretty sure I posted on a previous thread about it. Mostly when using Silk on a Fire tablet. Sometimes freezes when I'm part way through typing a reply. Sometimes it shuts down Silk entirely and throws me back to the Fire homepage. I agree I think it's when a big ad is trying to load but I don't know which one because the whole thing freezes or shuts down before it loads.

I don't use any ad blocker, other than whatever might be included in Silk. I read threads at I think 20 posts to a page.

Been happening to me for a few weeks using safari on iPhone. No ad blockers. Hangs for ages then I get this message.

Constantly crashing and freezing.
IcedPurple · 27/07/2024 12:05

I'm using it on Firefox on my PC and the site is slow, jerky and laggy. Other websites are working fine so it's not my laptop that's the problem. I tried reducing the number of posts shown per page from 100 to 50, but that hasn't made a difference.

DoublePeonies · 27/07/2024 14:27

Ohh, and here was me thinking it was my phone..

No add blockers running on my android (samsung) phone. Using Chrome.
It just freezes for me. Can't scroll, so need to close chrome and restart to get back to where I was.
Will video if I can.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 28/07/2024 09:38

What’s happening with this?

Its still unusable and causing other sites to crash or not load.

I’m also finding mumsnet very difficult to use. It keeps crashing and freezing. It might have a short space of time when it’s working ok (like now) but then it’ll start playing up again. I’m in iPhone on Safari.

NoWordForFluffy · 28/07/2024 12:43

They've decided it's ad blockers (even though not everyone uses them), so aren't interested now!

saturnspinkhoop · 28/07/2024 12:53

Well, if mumsnet is reading, I’ve never installed an adblocker and I still see plenty of ads on Mumsnet.

DoublePeonies · 28/07/2024 13:32

Not sure what good it will do, but screenshots. Screen totally frozen, can't scroll.

No ad blockers running. Samsung phone, munsnet website, running in chrome. Only happened with mumsnet running.

I've never used an ad blocker and at times the site is almost unusable for me. Constantly hanging, freezing and you need to click on a link multiple times to get it to work. As I said above, every other site is working fine so it's not my laptop or connection. It's this site.

Itisjustmyopinion · 28/07/2024 14:20

I don’t use add blockers but having the same issues that have been screen shot above (using iPhone version iOS 17.5.1 which is the most up to date version)

For weeks it doesn’t scroll past the OP until you refresh multiple times

Today it isn’t loading threads, sometimes it is blank screen and sometimes it is the same error as was posted by OP at 23/7 at 10.31

Oh and I have cleared all cache too before it is mentioned

Normalinnit · 28/07/2024 14:24

Anyone else finds that the page reloads often too? Although this time it could just be my old phone.

Have you tried private browsing? It's fixed it for me on an iPhone.

Yes. And bookmarks aren't working properly.

Same for me, it freezes, then I get a message saying to either close the site, or wait.

Accessing MN via Chrome on Google Pixel. Only happens on MN

This is causing me huge frustration too.

bigbadbarry · 29/07/2024 08:47

HebeMumsnet · 24/07/2024 10:05

Thanks @bigbadbarry. We'll have a look at that thread and see if it tells us anything. In the meantime, if you manage to get a screen video of it happening (you can even just video it with another device), do send it in. You never know what it might show up that might help. Thank you! Flowers

Sending a video through now. Not sure it shows anything!

CoffeeCatsAndVodka · 29/07/2024 08:56

It seems to be getting worse. I posted before, but it totally froze my entire laptop this morning, just had a black screen with the blue circle going round and round. Before I've been able to use the Task Manager to close Chrome, but not today. Left it for ages but in the end I had to force a shutdown of my laptop which was a real nuisance as I had documents open which all closed. I don't use an adblocker.

HebeMumsnet · 29/07/2024 09:41

Thanks @bigbadbarry - we'll look out for your screen video.

If anyone else is in the same situation as @CoffeeCatsAndVodka (ie is having this issue but is NOT using an adblocker) if you're also able to send us a screen video of what's happening that would be great. There are apps you can download, but otherwise you can just use a second mobile device to literally video your screen if that's easier. They can be sent to contactus@mumsnet.com. Thank you!

Abouttimeforanamechange · 30/07/2024 11:30

There's nothing to video. The screen freezes when you try to scroll, so you're left looking at whatever was on the screen at the time. Then you're chucked out. I get a message saying there was a problem loading the page, or I'm thrown out of the browser completely.

RamblingFar · 30/07/2024 12:51

Mumsnet has been consistently crashing my laptop (Windows, Chrome) for the last couple of weeks. Usually I have to restart the laptop, occasionally I can get into task manager to end task in Chrome. It's also frozen my phone once too, requiring a restart.

When I can get into task manager, something on the site is causing Chrome to be using nearly all of my resources.

No adblocker being used.

I would say it's probably in the range of once every 15-25 new threads viewed. So possibly an less common advert trying to load?

Theres no way of sending a video. I often can't even get into task manager. There's no resources left to start another program.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 30/07/2024 15:13

I’ve completely given up using it on public browsing. Doesn’t load, crashes all the other tabs, and stops them loading too.

Buy it’s annoying using private as l have to keep logging in. It’s starting to happen more on there as well.

Video sent.
Still doing this - and I'm not using ad blockers

MolkosTeenageAngst · 01/08/2024 13:18

This happens to me on both my iPhone and my iPad when I use Chrome to the point I can’t use the site at all anymore due to constant failure to load and refreshing and freezing. No adblocker. If I use Safari then it’s usable but I still get constant refreshing of pages for no clear reason.
