This started about 3 weeks ago with constant crashing. Now it’s freezing too and taking ages to load,

I removed all the pop up blockers, and found MN does actually work on my I pad - which it hasn’t for weeks!

NoWordForFluffy · 23/07/2024 17:19

I don't want to remove the ad blockers though (Safari has them built in). This place is rammed with shite!

I’ve just done that too and it’s working properly again. Thank you!

Hi folks,

Blocking adverts has an impact on us, because ads are how we keep the lights on. Unfortunately, we can't spend time investigating issues that are caused adblock when we're losing revenue as a result of them.

Mumsnet is built to show adverts and blocking them can stop the site from working properly. We would suggest removing these. It's also worth clearing your cache so your browser doesn't store out of date information.

If you're experiencing problems and you're not using ad blocker, please can you send a screen recording to contactus@mumsnet.com? We haven't managed to replicate this yet, so it'd be helpful to see the journey here.

NoWordForFluffy · 23/07/2024 19:41

The site works with Safari content blockers on, but on private mode. So it isn't the content blockers.

Whatever the problem is, it's the difference between private browsing and not.

Weird that the tech team never manage to replicate the issues that loads of us have. 🤷‍♀️

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 23/07/2024 22:30

Advertts aren’t the problem for me. I’ve not noticed any links.

I have noticed however, that if l click on a thread then if there’s an advert underneath that loads instead.

But adverts aren’t affecting crashing or running speed.

Again, it started this morning and lo and behold it's a NatWest ad. It is only happening with these. I don't use an ad blocker on my phone.

Constantly crashing and freezing.
bigbadbarry · 24/07/2024 08:51

I don’t have an ad blocker on my phone and I am having these issues. Mostly freezing, sometimes crashing. I can try for a screenshot but there isn’t much to see!

bigbadbarry · 24/07/2024 09:08

Ok it is happening for me on the thread ‘Furious about DD’s swimwear’ - repeatedly, I can’t get past the OP. I assume it is whichever ad is trying to load. Other threads have been ok

HebeMumsnet · 24/07/2024 10:05

Thanks @bigbadbarry. We'll have a look at that thread and see if it tells us anything. In the meantime, if you manage to get a screen video of it happening (you can even just video it with another device), do send it in. You never know what it might show up that might help. Thank you! Flowers

ITA - I couldn't work out how to turn off the ad blocker in Firefox (my default browser), but MN worked perfectly alright in private browsing mode anyway!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 24/07/2024 21:23

Struggling with advert loading here.

Not happening on any other site.

Constantly crashing and freezing.

I’ve discovered another issue. If MN is open on a tab it causes other tabs/sites to load slowly too.

If l close MN they all load fine. Is there some virus on it?

I noticed that too. And the battery drainage is insane using the site too.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/07/2024 08:32

It’s unusable. Took 10 minutes to load to enable me to do this message.

I get that you need to run ads to run this brilliant site but the new ad system is glitchy. It was fine 2-3 weeks ago?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 26/07/2024 19:44

It’s still unuseable

Hi OP

Can you confirm how many posts you're viewing per page and let us know if you have cleared your cache?

Shennie100 · 26/07/2024 21:07

I thought it was just my phone.

CoffeeCatsAndVodka · 26/07/2024 21:13

Glad I've seen this, I thought it was my laptop. Had it happening for a few days. I'm on my Windows laptop on Chrome. It all freezes and I have to go into Task Manager and End Task. It's really annoying!

Overthebow · 26/07/2024 22:28

It's unusable on my iPhone. I don't have any ad blockers running other than I'm guessing what's built into Safari. It's really bad, there's no issue with any other site just this one. Please fix it Mumsnet!

Hi OP

I’m viewing it as separate pages. Not sure how many quotes but not many.

I don’t want to clear my cache as it’s not affecting any other website. I’m now using private mode as that works. But it has cashed a couple of times.

As soon as l load it in public browsing it doesn’t work and affects the running of any other open tabs or websites.

Also ‘clearing your cache’ is like the IT dept at work telling you to restart your computer when they can’t be bothered to come and find out what’s really wrong!

I find it <so> dismissive to say that. It's basically 🤷‍♀️ and says they don't give a shit.

Bit like the 'we've not been able to replicate it.' Well, try harder, as loads of us have the problem.

I keep trying to tell them that the only difference in my settings is between private and normal browsing, but clearly they can't work out what that means to their own site. I think they need a better IT team, frankly!

TheCourtierTapsHisFan · 27/07/2024 09:54

Crashing for me too. Only if I try to open big threads (with 500+ posts). Been like this for several weeks now.
