This started about 3 weeks ago with constant crashing. Now it’s freezing too and taking ages to load,

There's another thread going on about this - all MN keep saying is to make contact with them whilst you're online, so they can see the issue. Makes no sense. I think it's the volume of adverts they have on here, but what do I know 🤷‍♀️😅

I’m using it in iPhone.

Its constant.

I have been having the same problem too, ever since I updated to IOS 18.1.1. The most recent update hasn’t helped either.

I decided to try a different browser today - Firefox - and it is so much better - I was having issues with other sites on Chrome too - not just MN - and they are all loading and running smoothly on Firefox.

That is a useless answer from MN. How are you supposed to make contact with them when the screen has frozen? Am I meant to have their phone number saved??

Honestly, I am not that committed to MN that I am willing to go to that bother....

Bigearringsbigsmile · 25/01/2025 08:08

New issue today. As I am reading a thread, it keeps closing and taking me back to active conversations!!

EasternStandard · 25/01/2025 08:10

Safari is pretty much unusable now for mn

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/01/2025 12:03

@EasternStandard - I made a stupid mistake earlier - it was Safari I was using (on iPad), and having massive problems with - not Chrome.

But I have switched to Firefox and I'm having no problems whatsoever.

I got it wrong too I just remembered I had to take safari off my phone and now it's chrome that mn is ending

soupyspoon · 29/01/2025 17:29

I cant remember if Ive posted on this or another thread about this but just complaining again about this, twice Ive had to restart my laptp due to this site today, it feels like its been a couple of months at least (because I didnt realise it was the site that was the problem when it started happeing and I was blaming the laptop!)

Its constant. Its not good enough to say contact them each time, who's got time for that, they know theres a problem, fix it!

Lonelycrab · 29/01/2025 20:53

I don’t think @mnhq actually care tbh. I’ve been in contact with them and agreed to do a video interrogation of my phone (nothing in it for me) and given them my details but they haven’t been in touch. Hey ho. I guess as it’s probably a small percentage of users that are effected and their view stream isn’t significantly impacted then they aren’t really that bothered if their website doesn’t work for some people🤷‍♂️

Edit to add; I now have to use chrome (which works for me) as safari just crashes instantly. Every other website I use works on safari, of course…

soupyspoon · 29/01/2025 21:10

Ive just had to restart again 3rd time today and I have only been on it since around 3 today

I use chrome, so clearly not a browser issue as many of us aree using different browsers and still happening

Same! I've only been having this issue for the last few days but now can't look at it all. I don't understand why it can't be fixed? I'm not getting the app and will just use Reddit more!

DevilsIvyy · 31/01/2025 22:11

Almost completely unusable for me today on safari.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 04/02/2025 23:56

This is utterly unbearable, freezing constantly, I have a white screen and I have to keep rebooting my iPad, they really don’t care do they.

CerealPosterHere · 05/02/2025 06:52

I’m still having major issues. Can’t use my iPad on safari for mn at all now. Just will not load/function. Other websites are fine on safari. Mn seems better on chrome. Can’t believe they can’t fix this.

EasternStandard · 05/02/2025 12:13

I can see something about consent and pay as I look at Chrome, there's a thread I can see but then it crashes and goes blank

I can't see that on the app and a few other threads that appear on Chrome or safari

It's really stalling now for use

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/02/2025 12:28

I have a new iPad, and even on that, I can't use Safari, especially for MN - but Firefox does appear to be working OK.

pantomanto · 05/02/2025 18:08

Come on HQ, this has been going on for months and months. You’ve not resolved anything but now want us consenting/paying premiums to continue. It’s ridiculous.

kittykarate · 05/02/2025 19:29

Chrome hung - 3 times in quick succession. Bloody adverts. Consent or Pay? You have to make it usable first.

Lonelycrab · 06/02/2025 00:25

@BeckyAMumsnet i think you need to hire a decent team of good IT specialist troubleshooters. Clearly the coding of your site has been compromised or has somehow been corrupted in a way that you’re unable to yet understand.

You need some experts to look at your coding. All other mainstream sites work flawlessly yet yours is now a mess.

Get help is my advice. Your team doesn’t have the skills to identify the problem.

Chrome is now becoming problematic for me too. I think I might just have to stop posting and visiting mn until these issues have been resolved.

Puppypower83 · 06/02/2025 06:25

I've also got the same problem with mumsnet and safari - completely unusable with freezing/page not loading. Someone on here suggested using a private safari tab which solves the problem but going in and out of the private tab with face recognition is annoying!
Not a fix.
Very surprised there's no attempts to address this. I don't want the app and like PP said, will just end up on Reddit more instead.

LyricalGangsta · 06/02/2025 06:35

I can't post anymore. Even after logging in and out as it suggests.
(I bet this posts!!)

LyricalGangsta · 06/02/2025 06:35

🙄

HowardTJMoon · 06/02/2025 09:50

@Lonelycrab I don't think it's a coding issue on mumsnet's own website. It's the ads being supplied to them by the ad network(s) they're choosing to use.

Imagine you run a seafood restaurant. You can choose to use a high-quality supplier and so only have a miniscule risk of accidentally giving your customers food poisoning. Or you can use a cheap supplier, one that you know don't care enough about what they're selling you and definitely will mix bad prawns in with the good ones, and just hope that your chefs will spot the bad ones before they get on a customer's plate. Sure, you'll end up poisoning some of your customers but look at your profit margin!

Guess which one of these mumsnet is choosing.

I’m not an IT specialist and I get the jist of what you’re saying, but I find this a bit hard to believe- Ad supplying web agencies will I’d have thought by their nature be providing to a wide range of other sites too, other sites would likely pick up on these issues surely and they’d get resolved.

isnt it entirely possible that the coding on the MN server/site that integrates these supplied ads onto MN is somehow dodgy or corrupt?

Edit to extend your analogy- the food suppliers are bringing perfectly good food, but the kitchen of mumsnet are serving onto plates that haven’t been washed up properly and contain bacteria.

I think I need some more coffee lol

DontStopMe · 06/02/2025 10:58

I think you could be right, LonelyCrab, and that something is getting into a bad state related to advertising, in what Mumsnet saves locally.

I started seeing the problem when I imported my history onto a new Mac. I cleared all my cache and site-related local data and the problem hasn't come back.

What I have just noticed is that I'm not seeing any ads when I'm in the Site stuff section. Which could explain why there are quite a few posts here from people who are struggling elsewhere on this site.
