This started about 3 weeks ago with constant crashing. Now it’s freezing too and taking ages to load,

On every single page the adverts take ages to load, and nothing else can happen until they do. I’m using an iPad.

This site is close to unusable now MNHQ.

Greentableleg · 01/01/2025 17:59

Chrome on Android phone is continually freezing. Going to give up trying to use this site soon.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 01/01/2025 18:14

I even had an alert from my phone saying chrome kept crashing and I should consider deleting it. It is only ever on mumsnet.
Android phone.

It's the ads. I have to wait several minutes for each one to load before starting to scroll, or the whole thing crashes. And then it reloads randomly every few minutes and the whole process starts again. I've given up trying to use the site in the browser, as it's unusable. I only use the app now, and that's more rarely. There's going to be no users left to view the ads at this rate. I'm using safari on an iPhone, and I don't intend to start messing about with clearing caches or installing ad blockers just to use mumsnet.

I agree. All we ever get told is to clear the bloody cache, which it just ‘have you tried turning it off and on again?’

I go to other websites which are awash with sodding adds and I don’t get this so what makes MN special?

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 02/01/2025 08:38

Thank you whoever suggested private browsing up thread. Seems to do the trick.

Oneearringlost · 02/01/2025 09:36

Does anyone know why, when I'm on Active threads and scrolling, and I click on a thread, but then go back to the Active page, that it has started to take me back to the top again, then I have to scroll back down to where I was, to see threads after the one I clicked on?
This started about 3 weeks ago.
I'm on an android phone, Samsung Internet.
I've tried clearing cookies. I have an ad blocker, it works well; I couldn't use the site if I didn't have this.
Thank you for any suggestions.

Meant so clarify, I click on the back button, not the Active button...the Active button would obviously take you back to the top.

It rarely, but sometimes works like it used to, taking me back to that part of the page, but randomly.

That's because it doesn't cache anything. Honestly, mumsnet really ought to be able to make a website work without people having to mess about turning caching off.

Ineffable23 · 03/01/2025 09:33

This is still happening and it's pretty frustrating! Any word on its resolution please?

Beginningtolookalot · 03/01/2025 16:00

Just found this thread - I literally can’t read any thread because of a blank advert which just doesn’t load . Three year old iPhone . Not sure I understand how to get round it ( see posters above had made some suggestions !) . @MNHQ … there is no point selling an advert no one will see if people stop viewing the site due to the advert blocking use of the site 🤷🏻‍♀️

CherryogDog · 14/01/2025 09:18

Thanks to whoever recommended private browsing, so far so good.
As well as the freezing, I was also having a problem opening up threads, clicking several times before it would open, and sometimes opening up a completely different thread 3 or 4 spaces up.

Abouttimeforanamechange · 14/01/2025 18:54

I was also having a problem opening up threads.... sometimes opening up a completely different thread 3 or 4 spaces up.

I find this happens if the Active page hasn't fully loaded. (This one is not just MN, happens to me on the BBC News site too. I'm probably just impatient.)

OutdatedOutrage · 15/01/2025 09:30

Almost 6 months since op started this thread and it’s still not sorted!

Balloonhearts · 15/01/2025 09:44

I think its actually getting worse. Did my head in yesterday, every single page froze.

PeachPumpkin · 15/01/2025 09:45

Mine was a lot better for ages (inexplicably) but has recently started to freeze again.

Flavabobble · 16/01/2025 18:53

CherryogDog · 17/12/2024 08:39

Is this issue ever going to be sorted?

Apparently not 🙄
Still freezing for me. Only on Mumsnet, no other site and as a result I use it far less.

FungusTap · 16/01/2025 19:01

I was having these problems, initially just on MN but then started to spread to other sites. At that point I googled it and did something in settings - can’t remember what, but there was loads of advice online - which immediately cleared the problem. Everything now working perfectly.

Could it be that MN is the canary in the coal mine?

ThePolarBearWhoLostHisCrown · 17/01/2025 10:27

This has started happening to me today. Midway through a thread the page reloads and it's just a blank page. Still, it looks like the McAfee warning has gone now.

Same here (iPad/Safari).

Things seemed to have got better over last month or two but the freezing for long periods whilst ads load has started again.

I did the usual short term fix of deleting cookies and browsing history late Wednesday but this time around that’s only improved things for maybe 48 hours, rather than the week’s plus grace it has generated on previous occasions.

I’m on a couple of other fora that have advertising and this problem only ever happens on MN.

PeachPumpkin · 17/01/2025 18:35

I’m also on Safari on iPhone.

Lonelycrab · 17/01/2025 20:02

@BeckyAMumsnet your site is still consistently freezing and crashing on re visits; ie if I’m looking at other sites then go back to MN; freeze for around 5/10 seconds. Sometimes doesn’t come back, sometimes does.

No other sites are behaving like this. I use about 10 different sites regularly and yours is the only one doing this.

You have some corrupted code somewhere

Edit to add also safari, iPhone 12, 17.6.

Lonelycrab · 17/01/2025 20:07

And no, I’m not going to clear cache/ delete cookies as it logs me out of all the other sites I use and clears often useful history that I may want to keep.

sonjadog · 18/01/2025 12:41

Today it is unusable on safari on the iphone as it just freezes all the time.

Same here but I'm using Chrome. Does the same thing if I switch to Frost or Tor. It's nothing to do with cookies or cache data, it's a coding problem.

On the upside, I'm spending a lot less time on MN as its just frustrating to be constantly relaunching just to scroll down a few inches.
