Banner advert in the app

Hi MNHQ,

There's a banner ad appearing in the ap (at the top) that makes the app visually really annoying to navigate. Will it be there permanently? It would be less bad at the bottom! Thanks!

Yeah I've got this too and it's very annoying. Please say it's not permanent!

The combination of the (permanent) new ad at the top of the app plus ad that you get as you scroll through the posts means that more than half of the screen is now taken up with ads

I have the god awful share your opinion ad at the top and then the same ad only BIGGER - every few posts throughout the thread.
I've seen it, I don't need to see it multiple times FFS.

It's awful. Really poor for such a basic app. No proper search function but massive flashing banners.

Please please get rid of this. Or if you must have an advert, make it stationary. It's too hard to read text when you have a moving flashing thing at the top of your phone screen.

Agree. It is BEYOND annoying. The large ones were bad enough, now we have to tolerate flashy banners too? It's impossible to read a post and now the ads are so big you can't scroll because you can't avoid touching the ad and BAM you're carted off to some website you couldn't give a shit about.

Same here. It's why I've always preferred using the app as I knew I was safe from random flashing ads.

Not on the app, but I've got the spinning gambling ad permanently at the top of MN (Chrome on an android phone) - both unpleasantly distracting, and ethically really not impressed with this quantity of gambling advertising.

Really what's the point of a Site stuff topic if MNHQ studiously avoid interacting with us when we raise an issue or even worse promise to check it out and then ghost the thread 🤔

Yep, I've got it too. Suddenly appeared after updating the app - iOS on iPhone.

I wouldn't expect a useful update on this yet tbh.
Putting the banner in must have been a conscious decision, maybe driven by some sort of metric on insufficient ad clicks ... taking it out again presumably requires meetings.

They really do need to filter out gambling ads though. A reminder why - from someone who is (or was) on MN
