Banner advert in the app

Hi MNHQ,

There's a banner ad appearing in the ap (at the top) that makes the app visually really annoying to navigate. Will it be there permanently? It would be less bad at the bottom! Thanks!

Is there any update on this please @JoMumsnet? It's making the app unusable.

Lilifer · 21/03/2024 08:57

I'm deleting my app now, cannot be bothered with this. And @MNHQ it's not a case of a problematic ad flashing its the fact that all of a sudden there is an ad at the top of the page, was never one there before. It affects the view of the page on the phone, which affects the experience of the app , get rid of it for gods sake!

Get rid of the banner or you'll lose members. It makes the app unreadable

I agree.

The banner takes up too much space and means the app is becoming unusable

3smallpups · 21/03/2024 09:06

Just to add another voice to say please remove this
I swopped to the app after the web site changes.
This ad catches your eye the whole time and ruins the browsing experience.
There is nowhere to go after this, except to leave mumsnet and I have been here a long time and will miss it.

CurlewKate · 21/03/2024 09:08

Adding my concern. Very annoying.

maximist · 21/03/2024 09:23

The banner ads are making the app very hard to use for me - the static ones are bad enough, but the flashing ones are horrendous, I've said it before but I find it very difficult to read with something moving on the page. I'm having to hold my phone with a finger over the top of the screen.

Please make it go away!

The number of adds has really increased recently. Not just at the top of the page but also in the middle of threads. It’s getting too much.

I agree, I understand companies need ads but the sheer number on Mumsnet has increased massively just in the last few months. I use the app because it's simple and isn't full of ads. The website is horrible, so busy and multicoloured that half the time I can't figure out what I'm looking at.
Constant advertising on forums like here, X, facebook etc is going to be the downfall of these companies in the end.

Tallisker · 21/03/2024 13:27

It's awful! I didn't realise at first what was wrong so I came to look on Site Stuff. Animated adverts are distracting, unwanted, unwelcome and intrusive. And when they're every three of four posts they're even more horrible. Please fix.

I'm on IOS, most recent one, most recent iPhone.

Also, it seems when I bookmark threads, the appear unread but the thread above looks as though it has been read, even though it hasn't been opened.

theluckiestbff · 21/03/2024 15:49

This is awful- I came to site stuff which I rarely visit to find out if anyone else had reported. I can't bear to read threads on this.

Like others have said, mid thread ads are ok you can scroll on but the fixed intrusive bar at top restricts view and is too distracting and irritating.

I will check back tomorrow in the hope that this will have changed. I only use the app.

Lilifer · 21/03/2024 15:50

I've just "reported" this thread to MNHQ as they seem to be determined to ignore this. Don't know what else to try at this point apart from tweeting on it

Thank you and good idea. It's really distracting(!)

theluckiestbff · 21/03/2024 16:06

Also reported.

LegoTherapy · 21/03/2024 16:18

It's crashing as soon as I open the app now.
I did report the thread this morning and they said they'd pop back on when they had an update.
It's really pissing me off now.

SnowFrogJelly · 21/03/2024 16:58

Why are MN ignoring us..

TrappedPotato · 21/03/2024 17:35

Another voice amongst the many to complain about this awful ad. It is headache-inducing. Please remove it. @mnhq

drowninginsick · 21/03/2024 17:38

Same here, I already had ads appearing in the middle of thread, but now scrolling on the top, and it really does seem to put strain on the app and make it slow

flyinghen · 21/03/2024 17:39

I have it too but there's no actual advert

Yes, very annoying

There's more advert than actual text

BovrilonToast · 21/03/2024 17:55

I've got scrolling gambling ads again. FFS can't someone at HQ sort this out?!

MaggieFS · 21/03/2024 18:11

No update at all from @mnhq @JoMumsnet today. Shows what they think of us 🤷‍♀️

Good idea to report it.

DirtyDensDog · 21/03/2024 18:30

I'm thinking that the ad must be here to stay.

LegoTherapy · 21/03/2024 19:43

I might just delete the app and take a break from mumsnet because the flashing and movement is hurting my eyes and spoiling the site. I'll get more done in the day and read books at night if I delete it too. Win-win for me! The regular ads are bad enough but this new banner is truly shit.

Same here. Gambling ads, who wants to see those let alone anything else?

BlunderMifflin · 22/03/2024 08:24

Have you ever thought about accessibility for those of us with vision problems or neurological disabilities? I don't think you are bothered about people with disabilities or you wouldn't have done this.

I've tried to attach a screen recording of a moving banner ad but the app won't let me!
