Banner advert in the app

Hi MNHQ,

There's a banner ad appearing in the ap (at the top) that makes the app visually really annoying to navigate. Will it be there permanently? It would be less bad at the bottom! Thanks!

Really disappointed to keep on checking back here and keep seeing no satisfactory answer from MNHQ.

Keep the ads, move the position. Everyone has explained that it is not normal to restrict the viewing of an app to this extent, is discriminatory and not acceptable.

Short answer, yes. It's what MN always do when they don't want to acknowledge something that's making users unhappy and leave.

I’m definitely now using MN much less now that I no longer have the app? Dh is happy at least

And is anyone ever going to respond to the legitimate questions and concerns? Such as which other apps have such a tiny space left for the “chat” element (as few as 5 lines ) after the double ads as none of us have been able to find any; the ethics of having a permanent banner advertising gambling on a website targeted at parents; the lack of consideration that moving ads generate migraines amongst sensitive readers.

I've avoided Mumsnet for a while due to this. Just been on the app for 5 mins today and the moving solitaire banner is still awful.

My battery has also gone down by 30% in 5 minutes. (My battery is fine when I use any other app.)

It's a good thing I don't often MN on my phone...

Checking back hopefully for an update. Have mumsnetHQ hidden this thread and hoped it will go away quietly? It seems to be working

My mumsnet time has plummeted as I can't stand browsing the site any more. I only pop back to check threads i'm on and a couple of interest boards, which is probably a good thing but sad to lose the 'company' on long nights of insomnia.

Come on @MNHQ! I'm getting spinning adverts for gambling companies and what looks like scammy make money quick schemes now. This really needs resolving.

I don't really find the new adverts an issue. As MNHQ said the advertising is similar to other online companies so I suppose they need to make money somehow. I don't pay for premium MN so I don't mind the adverts.
The only issue I find now on the app is that when I click on one thread and read it then click out again, it displays that I've read the thread above.

For god's sake get rid of the spinning ad! Don't push gambling, please, no matter how much they pay.

Also, I've mentioned before, as has someone else, when you read a thread then go back to the list, the thread above the one you read gets marked as read, not the one you've read.

It is REALLY bad and difficult to use now.

Poster after poster has given examples, provided screenshots, and still you ignore the posts.

I've been away from home so absent mindedly flicked on mn on my phone, which I'd given up on at home. This is still such a problem.

If nothing else @mnhq , can you PLEASE stop the indiscriminate GAMBLING ads. It's totally irresponsible.

Thanks for your comments. We can assure you that we are going through everyone's feedback but there's quite a bit to so please bear with us - we'll be back on the thread when we have more information.

God the Monopoly one is getting right on my nerves

Most of mine seem to be gambling ones which feels very off brand for MN.

I understand advertising revenue keeps the site alive but surely there are enough brands on the books that MN doesn't have to take on off brand (some would say irresponsible as there are none of the usual betting caveat lines on those ads) advertisers too?

Also from a design point of view lots of the ads running in that placement are very poor quality or have been resized to the point that not all of the text is even readable, rather than being supplied with suitable spec.
