This happened a few weeks ago and appeared resolved. Now it’s happening again. Full screen taken over and a message to rotate screen. I’m on safari on an iPad.

Hi all

We've made a more direct attempt at blocking these. Can you let us know if you continue to see them? Please also let us know if you haven't seen it for a while - that would be some good news!

RawBloomers · 15/03/2024 13:49

I got this today. I didn’t click on it because I don’t click on links I don’t know what they’re to. Also, if i rotate the device as it asks, I can’t see the ad, it just disappears and I can browse the thread:

Hello!

Can we just check that you've followed the instructions on this thread for clearing cache and cookies on Mumsnet?

RawBloomers · 15/03/2024 18:16

No i didn’t clear my cache and cookies because it’s the first time I’ve seen it and your message about clearing cache and cookies referred to them causing the ad to be remembered. Clearing cache and cookies makes your site harder to use, so I try and avoid doing so.

If it happens again, please could we ask that you give it a go?

ThreeLeggedCat · 24/03/2024 12:47

It’s back again.

PartyFearsTwo · 24/03/2024 13:00

Yup back again for me. Still can’t open the advert no matter where I tap on it, so not much help I’m afraid.

Seeingadistance · 25/03/2024 10:12

I’m getting this today - for the first time.

HebeMumsnet · 25/03/2024 10:14

Thanks for the updates, everyone. We're looking into this again now and will let you know when there's news. Flowers

HebeMumsnet · 25/03/2024 11:04

Hello, again, everyone.

We're on the case with this again. It looks like most of the people with this issue are on Safari using an iPad but there are others, too.

If you haven't already, could you let us know what make of tablet/device you are using and which browser? The more detail on make the better. Thank you! Flowers

Pippielk · 25/03/2024 19:31

Safari on iPad is where I see it

HeartofHerts · 30/03/2024 21:17

It’s back for me tonight. Safari, iPad.

LilyMumsnet · 02/04/2024 16:37

Thanks all, can you confirm if it's a blank ad or can you the advertiser? We really are working to get to the bottom of this and we are very sorry that it's still an issue.

HeartofHerts · 02/04/2024 22:14

@LilyMumsnet It’s a blank ad like the screenshots posted earlier in the thread.

HebeMumsnet · 03/04/2024 12:00

Morning, everyone. Just here with a bit of an update. This isn't fully resolved yet but we are making some headway with this issue.

As you've probably worked out for yourselves, this is an issue with tablet users, and is affecting lots of publishing sites. Without going into very boring detail, it's to do with ads being served by third party users that should be for mobile only.

We've taken the normal steps we would to fix this but it's been slightly more complex than usual and we haven't been able to completely block the ads.

However, the good news is we think we have a fix that should mean the issue will disappear in the near future. Please do continue to let us know how it's going on this thread. We're going to be monitoring things and if our Clever Plan doesn't work, we have a Plan B on the backburner!

Thanks again for your patience with this and especially to everyone who's continued to send us info and screenshots. It's been really helpful. Flowers

Just got one on this page:
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5042574-new-york-times-publishes-opinion-piece-supporting-the-importance-of-sex
Unsurprisingly on safari browser on ipad.
Photos in landscape and portrait, though they probably don’t help.

Thanks for posting the link and the screenshot, @NumberTheory - we're taking a look.

CBStrike · 22/04/2024 13:32

This issue is happening on my new tablet. Samsung A9+ on Chrome.
Swapped from Chrome on an ipad where i never encountered it.
Ad is blank when i rotate my device.

CBStrike · 03/05/2024 12:59

Still happening today.....

NumberTheory · 04/05/2024 21:29

Another of the ads. This time on the FWR board as scrolling the threads. It scrolled up the screen as I tried to see more threads and sat covering the screen while the threads scrolled up behind it (I could see the edges of the threads behind it as I scrolled). This time I accidentally clicked on it so know where it goes: https://inspirafinancial.com/business?utm_source=third_party&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=brand_awareness&utm_content=azerion_brokers_05_custom_thanks_note

Argh! I’ve had a few weeks blissfully free of this and it’s started up again over the last couple of days. I’m on an iPad and using safari. This time it’s appearing on AIBU threads and was an advert for something called RWT (or something)? I forgot to get a screenshot 🤦🏻‍♀️

MamaGhina · 27/05/2024 17:35

@LokiDoki75 I’ve had it 3 days running and have posted on 2 threads with screenshots. No reply from MNHQ.

Started up again yesterday! Increasingly frustrating.

Now I have a new problem. The side add is trying to take over the screen but a fight in ensuing and the add keeps flickering in size. Obviously I can’t show the fight in a picture.

This is pretty much making the site unpleasant to use, might be the tipping point for me.

This effing Mimecast ad popping up and covering half my screen makes me determined to never use the company should I ever have need of their services. I'll find someone who doesn't stalk me around MN.
I'm on Chrome.
