You've hidden this evening's offensive, ageist thread, stereotyping "boomers". Will this be deleted? Can we have a robust response to ageism on MN?

I graduated with purple streaks.

Does anyone else on this thread feel they're missing out never having been shouted at by an older person on a bus? #FOMO

😏

No never have I ever been screamed at by an older person on the bus !

The personal attack on me is still there.

Either she's stupid enough to believe that you really shout at people on buses or she meant "you" as in all people over a certain age.

What thread, Captain?

Shouted at on the bus in AIBU.

Nor me, strangely enough.....

To be fair @Mrsjayy , I have been shouted at by an older person on the bus!
However I've also been yelled at by people of other ages too! 🤣
Assholes are assholes regardless of age!

TheLongGloriesOfTheWinterMoon · 01/09/2023 14:15

I wonder how many people have genuinely been shouted at on a bus? It's always buses. And always pushchairs. And always people older than the pushchair pusher.

Every time I get on public transport I'm very nervous. Fear of God in me that my mouth will suddenly start doing its own thing and I'll stand up and bawl somebody out.

I was humphed at by a man in Marks once.
Shall I start a thread?
Tbf, DD was squawking so loudly I was humphing a fair bit myself.

AuntieJoyce · 01/09/2023 14:17

I’ve just looked and that thread is an almost carbon copy of one that was deleted about a month ago for trolling. Come on @MNHQ

@TheLongGloriesOfTheWinterMoon it sounds like you are insinuating that people who travel on buses with pushchairs frequently lie about being shouted at by older people. I hope that I have misunderstood your intent, because that would be quite the sweeping generalisation to make about people who travel people on buses with pushchairs.

CaptainMyCaptain · 01/09/2023 14:41

I have never either shouted at anyone on a bus or been shouted at including when I travelled with a push chair.

Nope.

But as above, over the years there have been a fair few pushchair on bus trolls.

traytablestowed · 01/09/2023 14:59

Ohhh. That's what you meant. Right.

Often featuring twins and a drip feed drip dripping through several threads until everyone finally applauds the heroic OP.

That said, trolls who just go head on into "my bubba is more important than anyone else and can't be removed from pushchair" is also a regular performer.

Maireas · 01/09/2023 16:34

Twins. Why do twins feature so much on troll threads? It's usually an indicator.

DIL and I took grandchildren to the cinema yesterday to see teenage mutant ninja turtles. A pile of Pooh btw. Grandson spilled some of his popcorn so was a bit upset. A senior citizen across the way suddenly said loudly Sshhh. It's the cinema not the WI as we were trying to comfort him.

I was stunned into silence because all around us children had been running up and down the aisles with adults all through the filmbecause they needed the loo as is their wont (small bladders) my DIL who is very direct spun around and in a loud voice said to him. "DON'T YOU SSHHH ME"

One senior citizen.

The thread is about "boomer" stereotyping.

So there was disruption by children all the way through the film but the man only said sssh once?

Sounds like you were being too loud tbh if you were more disruptive than children running up and down the aisles!

Maireas · 01/09/2023 17:35

@justasking111 - the person in the cinema was "a senior citizen" - why not just a person? Why not just someone you found annoying? It's not all older people who are unpleasant or moaning, that's a stereotype. Several times upthread we've said that people can be arseholes at any age, any gender, any background, sexuality, ethnic group.

It's not the latter that causes the former.
That's the objection.

He shushed in Mutant Ninja Turtles Film ???

God alive. There is no such thing as too much noise 😂😂😂

I'd get it if it was you know, Oppenheimer or something.

I expect he was extremely stressed. 😆😉

Actually I believe there is some science behind the grumpy old people thing. In the same way there's science behind toddler tantrums and teenage stroppiness.
I'm sure this post will be met with howls of ageism though.

Maireas · 01/09/2023 17:52

Not howls of ageism, @Kendodd . I'm sure you've read the measured responses on here to very virulent bigotry, not just prejudice.
I think that if you said that every teenager - without exception - was stroppy, rude and selfish, you'd be doing the same thing.

Many of us have been challenging the notion of badly behaved children on another thread.
It is possible to look beyond blunt and limited generalisations.
