MN needs a closer watch of FWR

There is a concerning growth of posts with racist undertones cropping up on these boards, all under the guise of being proudly 'anti-woke'.

Apparently diversity is 'woke' and worthy of derision.

This is the thread I'm referring to here.

Mumsnet needs to looks at why that board draws such types of posts, and why posters feel so comfortable openly airing their racism.

Anyway, I've arsed about enough with the tag-team now. Off to do the rest of my laundry - mumsnet isn't helping me.

I'm amazed that people keep emails from MN regarding reported posts.
Do people not just delete them?
I keep my inbox small, of emails that require action. Everything else is deleted or filed. I can't imagine wanting to keep emails from MN!

I had posts deleted years ago now prior the Maya decision when we weren't allowed to say anything other than TWAW.

I haven't kept the emails. I use emails way too much and have to empty deletions otherwise my account fills up.

I could maybe imagine keeping emails regarding posts of your own being deleted, but not for ones you report of someone else. (I report a lot of Spam on education boards for example.)

I don't delete emails on the account I use. It's not that I am deliberately "keeping them". I just still have them by default.

D'oh I'm being thick. But then I've never reported a post.

I'll be forever grateful to MNHQ for hosting this debate despite the additional costs and criticism. It can be very hard to debate respectfully on here - especially when accusations are thrown around, allegations made, often with no evidence or back up. We never really know who's behind a user name and (as MNHQ like to remind us): posters may well not be who they claim to be.

I reckon Maya Angelou's advice is the most useful for this thread:
"When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time."

Good grief! This is really a bizarre accusation. I went out and didn’t read posts or reply for some time. I can assure you that I did not report yours or anyone else’s posts on this thread or today.

But hey, I am also not going to provide evidence of that either. So you will have to take it on face value.

Because I want this thread to stand as it was.

And just for the record, I won’t be reporting this one either if it gets deleted. Because the accusation here is another personal attack and a bizarre one.

I suspect that ‘tone’ is a very common word used to describe posts on MN. So your accusation is also simply meaningless.

This is why I don't report posts. Because once they are gone anyone can make up complete nonsense.

I also suspect that MNHQ is now closely watching this thread and will end up deleting posts themselves now they have it under surveillance. Posts like the one from MNHQ just back a page or two indicates that they will check on the thread very regularly now anyway.

So, thanks anyway. Doesn’t matter whether I would have reported it or not, as it was against the guidelines they must delete it. I have asked in the past for some poster’s posts to be undeleted when they were abusive towards me and the answer was a firm ‘no, we cannot as it is clearly against the guidelines’.

Do you understand that you have just posted a screenshot of a deleted post? Do you expect that MNHQ will allow this to stand considering they have deleted it before?

And finally again, do you understand that this is outing for anyone to post? I am not sure what you hope to achieve here Margot, I don’t know. This would be not only achieve nothing, but would be inviting posters to be targeted in just another way in the future, for showing who and what they have reported. Maybe you are lax about what you choose to and choose not to report, but I am not.

Honestly, this whole thing of demanding that any one post ‘right-doing’ is really very concerning. And I recommend that no one else does this.

Anti-surrogacy activists on the FWR are also guilty of appropriating slavery. Despite what appears to be a Black woman objecting and saying it is racist to do so.

about half a dozen posts on a thread of over 300 posts contain the word slavery, mostly in the context of the buying and selling of human beings which is as much bigger portion of the discussion in that thread. One poster objected to saying that slavery was simply the buying and selling of human beings and i presume that is the poster you referred to. They did not expand the point or clarify assumptions about their ethnicity.

Describing posters discussing the issue as “anti-surrogacy activists” is a bit of a hyperbole that doesn’t really bear up. You do realise by linking the thread we can all go back and read it for ourselves?

I think you misunderstand me.

It's the people who claim FWR is full of racism and homophobia but then are mysteriously unable to produce any receipts who I am suggesting could do this, not you.

I'm struggling with the surrogacy thread being racist too. People who oppose surrogacy do see it as a trade in babies. Because often that is what it is, either for expenses or because of other pressures. There is a reason there is normally a wealth imbalance between Intended parents and Surrogates.

The fact you have called people who oppose surrogacy in any form , anti surrogacy advocates shows your position on it.

However, I really really suggest that NO ONE posts screenshots of their reports to MNHQ for any reason on any thread. No one should be doing this as it really is not appropriate for anyone to know who reports what and when.

I report personal attacks against posters, and racist posts and homophobic posts and whole threads sometimes

A) i have no idea what my email login is so can’t see what MNHQ say

B) i deleted them anyway…why the fuck should i save them?

C) anyone who requires that I prove that i have reported a post can get knotted

and to be honest i know some FWR posters prefer not to report posts and to be fair to me I certainly report less posts on FWR than anywhere else, but as fond as I am of many of the FWR regulars I’ll do what I want to do ….if I think its the right thing to do

I HUGELY oppose surrogacy. By anyone. Couldn't give a shit what your sexual orientation and the colour of your skin is irrelevant. I think it's wrong.

I absolutely can see it's not the same as slavery. The creation of a baby to be used in a financial transaction (directly or indirectly) however is still not right.

That doesn't make me or the majority of posters on that thread racist.

I reported a post by a well-known barrister from some time ago that could be read as anti-Semitic. It got removed, but actually now I rather wish I'd let it stand as it revealed so much. People shouldn't have to read that stuff though, so it's a tricky balance sometimes.

There is a poster on here who goes on about gay people yet can't even say what they mean by that (it's not "homosexual") and comes across as very anti-same-sex attraction. Might be worth reporting them a bit more perhaps as it is fairly obvious homophobia.
